sounds immense right from the opener

Things that came out today I like enough to rep for (and buy):

#NowPlaying @EGGVNOFFICIAL
La Era de la Bestia@outofline

Mexican troupe brings Satan to industrial dancefloors. Great for metalheads and Goths to stomp around together, which is frankly my kind of party.https://t.co/1MiTt21Vqe

— Brian O'Neill (@NYC__Native) May 14, 2021

#NowPlaying
Throat
Smile Less@svartrecords

Finnish group reimagines Joy Division signed to Touch And Go Records. 'Smile Less' is a bit darker than 'Bareback,' the previous release that introduced me to the band, but so's the world.https://t.co/VcssOcHsKX

"Joy Division signed to Touch And Go Records"

Uh, yeah, that deserves at least a spin.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 14 May 2021 20:01 (three years ago) link

new Grave Miasma, first in a while. need to spin.

fuck yes about Dordeduh. i was all about the last one.

Feta Van Cheese (Neanderthal), Friday, 14 May 2021 20:14 (three years ago) link

this Sunbomb album is a fucking blast

Mixed and mastered by Colin Marston, here's some standout proggy tech death/thrash from London:

I am late to the Spectral Wound party but this is a really great album, full of melodies betwixt cascading fury.

Loud guitars shit all over "Bette Davis Eyes" (NYCNative), Sunday, 16 May 2021 13:08 (three years ago) link

Grave Miasma album is 'fine', really, but with a lot of blackened death, ever since Behemoth clones started poring out of the woodwork, I find this style to be one I'm tired of atm (as opposed to Azarath, who are high octane energy).

Dordeduh is great from what I"ve had the chance to listen to, which is the first two tracks.

Feta Van Cheese (Neanderthal), Sunday, 16 May 2021 13:12 (three years ago) link

It's even proggier than their debut, with fewer 'unclean' vox than before. They seem to be dead set on becoming Romania's answer to Enslaved, which is not a bad thing as far as I'm concerned.

pomenitul, Sunday, 16 May 2021 13:17 (three years ago) link

I really like the clean vox deployed and the atmosphere. Enslaved was my first thought, coincidentally enough, when listening to the first few tracks.

Feta Van Cheese (Neanderthal), Sunday, 16 May 2021 13:23 (three years ago) link

the vox are stellar

intern at pelican brief consulting (Simon H.), Sunday, 16 May 2021 13:24 (three years ago) link

Also, I am firmly in camp Doededuh!

Loud guitars shit all over "Bette Davis Eyes" (NYCNative), Sunday, 16 May 2021 15:29 (three years ago) link

Er, Dordeduh.

Loud guitars shit all over "Bette Davis Eyes" (NYCNative), Sunday, 16 May 2021 15:30 (three years ago) link

duh!

intern at pelican brief consulting (Simon H.), Sunday, 16 May 2021 15:30 (three years ago) link

D'oh!(deduh)

Feta Van Cheese (Neanderthal), Sunday, 16 May 2021 15:32 (three years ago) link

Haha.

It's pronounced Dorr-deh-doohh (last one's a hard h, as in 'HATRED'), if you're curious.

pomenitul, Sunday, 16 May 2021 15:33 (three years ago) link

Dor (yearning, longing) de (of, here in the sense of 'for' in English) duh (spirit).

They're ultimately a New Age band.

pomenitul, Sunday, 16 May 2021 15:36 (three years ago) link

Max Cavalera has a new band, Go Ahead And Die, with his son Igor and Khemmis's Zach Coleman on drums. The self-titled debut comes out June 11; it's primitive, crudely produced caveman thrash. Some of you may like it better than anything he's done since Arise. I still say Cavalera Conspiracy are a great band, particularly on their last two albums, but this is really good, too.

man, this one's cool! audible basslines, what a concept!

nice job on the production too. sounds like humans playing music, what a concept!

(⊙_⊙?) (original bgm), Monday, 17 May 2021 22:56 (three years ago) link

Audible bass virtuosity is a telltale sign the tech death will be good.

pomenitul, Monday, 17 May 2021 23:10 (three years ago) link

ha, totally

this one's been doing the trick for me lately:
https://nihilisticnoisepropaganda.com/album/the-life-feeding-flame

sounds a bit like godflesh gone black metal to my ears

(⊙_⊙?) (original bgm), Tuesday, 18 May 2021 00:42 (three years ago) link

New Panopticon is brilliant, end stop.

Loud guitars shit all over "Bette Davis Eyes" (NYCNative), Tuesday, 18 May 2021 02:32 (three years ago) link

I reviewed the Sunbomb album.

but also fuck you (unperson), Tuesday, 18 May 2021 13:01 (three years ago) link

Panopticon always delivers imo but wow, yeah this is something else. Maybe its my yearning for nature after this long year but it's really hitting hard for me.

gman59, Tuesday, 18 May 2021 18:26 (three years ago) link

are there black metal bands that incorporate the motorik beat? maybe that's impossible, idk, the idea just crossed my mind

alpine static, Wednesday, 19 May 2021 00:24 (three years ago) link

Aluk Todolo?

Pfunkboy AKA (Oor Neechy), Wednesday, 19 May 2021 00:51 (three years ago) link

First band that came to mind for me as well, I’d say try Occult Rock and see how that grabs you.

good call. love that album, haven't listened in years.

Apostasy - Death Return
https://f4.bcbits.com/img/a1057899320_10.jpg
Chilean power metal/thrash with great production, straightahead but well-played riffs and gruffly barked vox,
nailing a retrofitted mid-'80s evil vibe IMO (sometime you can def tell an album by its cover):
https://fallentemple.bandcamp.com/album/death-return

Kangol In The Light (Craig D.), Wednesday, 19 May 2021 02:45 (three years ago) link

Digging the Kataan EP, this is really good. Bummed to be reminded that Vattnet is no longer though.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 19 May 2021 20:16 (three years ago) link

new hooded menace incoming:
https://hoodedmenace.bandcamp.com/album/the-tritonus-bell

the last one is going to be hard to top imo. you can definitely hear the retro heavy metal influences mentioned in the promo blurb on the teaser track and that def threw me off for a sec. but I'm curious to hear how this plays out over a whole record.

(⊙_⊙?) (original bgm), Wednesday, 19 May 2021 21:49 (three years ago) link

oh and love that apostasy cover too, caught my eye as well. those colors are poppin! (relatively speaking)

(⊙_⊙?) (original bgm), Wednesday, 19 May 2021 21:51 (three years ago) link

Pumped for the new Hooded Menace. And Apostasy sounds appetizing indeed.

New Ghastly coming soon on 20 Buck Spin, psyched/deathed.

Shaidar Logoff (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Thursday, 20 May 2021 02:35 (three years ago) link

Mesarthim has an EP that came out last month digitally and on CD on 5/28.
They seem to be employing more synth to cerate their spacy moods on this one.
Also on 5/28 the band is releasing a limited cassette box set of everything they have done.

http://www.sound-cave.com/uploads/Product/image/mesarthim-phase-one-8-tapes-box.jpg?v=1617285956

Kinda crazy for nearly $100 US but I am sure it'll sell out!

Loud guitars shit all over "Bette Davis Eyes" (NYCNative), Thursday, 20 May 2021 13:07 (three years ago) link

I've heard none of their previous albums but the new Gojira is as meh as it gets.

pomenitul, Thursday, 20 May 2021 13:17 (three years ago) link

ah shit ... the temptation on that Mesarthim

alpine static, Thursday, 20 May 2021 14:00 (three years ago) link

I like the new Gojira a lot, but I liked most of their old albums too.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 20 May 2021 14:50 (three years ago) link

I never liked Gojira much and the new one doesn't change my mind.

But there are far more offensive bands that got huge, so good for them!

Loud guitars shit all over "Bette Davis Eyes" (NYCNative), Thursday, 20 May 2021 21:44 (three years ago) link

New Esoctrilihum just dropped and I’m sure it’s nothing short of excellent, as usual:

Just got a promo of a new Graveland album. Nope, nope, none for me, thanks.

but also fuck you (unperson), Friday, 21 May 2021 16:01 (three years ago) link

lol can’t say I blame you.

the new Abysskvlt is even more funeral doom than the previous two - but with Tibetan instruments and lyrics as well

StanM, Friday, 21 May 2021 18:06 (three years ago) link

Haha, I too deleted the digital Graveland promo!

Monster Magnet covers record is a lot of fun with tons of obscure Nuggets (So much isn't on Spotify that I gave up trying to cull a playlist of the original versions) all done up Monster Magnet style.

Track listing for those interested:

“The Diamond Mine” (originally by Dave Diamond)
“Born to Go” (originally by Hawkwind)
“Epitaph for a Head” (originally by JD Blackfoot)
“Solid Gold Hell” (originally by The Scientists)
“Be Forewarned” (originally by The Macabre)
“Mr. Destroyer” (originally by Poo-Bah)
“When the Wolf Sits” (originally by Jerusalem)
“Death” (originally by The Pretty Things)

Metallica's $5.98 EP is the only covers record I like, usually, but Monster Magnet sound enough like their inspirations that I'm willing to give this one a try. The version of "Born To Go" is loud as fuck, as it should be.

but also fuck you (unperson), Saturday, 22 May 2021 03:33 (three years ago) link

xp Monster Magnet covering that Poobah track seems so obvious I'm surprised it took 35 years

Shaidar Logoff (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Saturday, 22 May 2021 06:12 (three years ago) link

Don’t sleep on the Esoctrilihum if you enjoyed his previous releases, this might just be the best one yet, albeit a wee bit too long as usual.

pomenitul, Saturday, 22 May 2021 16:49 (three years ago) link

On the mathier end of things, I'm liking the new Yautja:
