Annie doesn't read mp3 blogs, but loves Pitchfork!

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 28 April 2005 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Me and RickyT are goin', and so R our chums J&P and J&J - posse'n'krew representz innit!

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Thursday, 28 April 2005 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Pissing hell, I'm going to that but I only wanted to see Annie. Well rubbish.

Affectian (Affectian), Thursday, 28 April 2005 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Any update on an American release? I'm not paying $30 for the import.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 28 April 2005 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

dude, i'll send you mine. seriously. it's definitely not worth $30.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 28 April 2005 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

It definitly is (says the guy who still hasn't bought it an just has it on MP3)

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Saturday, 30 April 2005 07:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I love the album and would pay the $30 if that was the only way, but I keep hearing about an American release, and I'm wondering if it will have bonus tracks etc. "Heartbeat" itself is worth more than that.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 30 April 2005 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm wondering where this $30 figure is coming from. I ordered a handful of things from amazon.co.uk and while shipping was nasty, if it's spread around several items you're definitely not paying $30 for one album..

mike h. (mike h.), Saturday, 30 April 2005 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

It's $29.98 at Amoeba.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 30 April 2005 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

vs. around $12 if they release it domestically.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 30 April 2005 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Pre-.mp3-era I would have plunked down, but then again, pre-.mp3-era I probably wouldn't have heard of her in the first place!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 30 April 2005 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

You can get it for about 17 from cdwow.com which isn't bad at all for an import.

svend (svend), Saturday, 30 April 2005 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Also from the Times article:

"On June 7, her album, "Anniemal," will finally get a United States release (Big Beat/Atlantic)..."

o. nate (onate), Sunday, 1 May 2005 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
she's playing manchester in july. there's some debate as to where.

piscesboy, Tuesday, 17 May 2005 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you guys notice that the article Matthew C Perpetua linked gave ILM a link in return?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah Annie's confirmed to play Chips With Everything on July 22nd. I'm not sure if it's part of a tour or a one-off.

Affectian (Affectian), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you know that a lot of conservative rock critics are rooting for you…

Yeah, it is weird, but it is hard for me to comment on it, because I just do what I like and it is great that everybody seems to like it too.

what does this mean? it's from the interview that matthew linked. "conservative rock critics"?

firstworldman (firstworldman), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Sarah, I think it was just a trackback. It linked to this thread automatically because this thread linked to it.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

three weeks pass...
She's apparently playing Barden's Boudoir, London on Thur 28th

Eat Your Own Ears presents - Annie (679 records) + supports w/DJs

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Monday, 20 June 2005 22:31 (twenty years ago)

July, eh? I can do it, you can do it, they can do it, we can do it.

BARMS, Tuesday, 21 June 2005 07:39 (twenty years ago)

she wasn't that hot at Koko in the end but the beats were beefier/more electro and the DJ guy played the inquisitor on 'Chewing Gum' with a vocoder, which was nice. 'Wedding' and 'Kiss Me' sounded better live too.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

what are 'wedding' and 'kiss me' ?

piscesboy, Tuesday, 21 June 2005 11:50 (twenty years ago)

-- Sociah T Azzahole (stevem7...), June 21st, 2005.

????? But she didn't play. I woz there.

Jamie T Smith (Jamie T Smith), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 11:58 (twenty years ago)

what are 'wedding' and 'kiss me' ?

'Wedding' is one of her newer tracks, 'Kiss Me' is a bonus track on one of the 'Chewing Gum' CDs.

Jamie, are we talking about the same gig? (supporting St Etienne last Thursday). it would seem not.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

Ah. Sorry. I was talking about the earlier Koko non-appearance.

I managed to be completely unaware of a gig I would have loved. How did I miss that one?

Jamie T Smith (Jamie T Smith), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 13:52 (twenty years ago)

Apparently she was due to support St Etienne in Brighton last week - thank fuck she didn't actually perform because her equipment was on the wrong flight, I would have been soooo pissed-off to have missed that.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

so, i checked out Annie's SF show on Friday, and it wasn't terribly great. in fact, "heartbeat," her closer, really kinda sucked. totally fell apart like a band just giving up half-way through. worse tho, there were times when it kinda looked like she was lip synching. anyone else see her and have similar suspicions?

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Sunday, 3 July 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

I had a great time in Chicago! jaymc can attest it was quite a show. She wasnt playing with a band though, just singing with the DJ.

deej.., Sunday, 3 July 2005 20:26 (twenty years ago)

yeah, chicago was nice, but underwhelming. i had one too many long island ice teas, but it seemed like the set was REALLY short as well.

natedey (ndeyoung), Sunday, 3 July 2005 21:52 (twenty years ago)

yeah, i didn't mean to imply that she was performing with a band... she just had her dj/programmer dude. i guess it just sounded like a bad band because "heartbeat" sounded SO sloppy

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Sunday, 3 July 2005 22:28 (twenty years ago)

Ahh. yeah it was way too short. I had a good time anyway.

deej.., Sunday, 3 July 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

I saw her in Chicago too and had a terrific time. I'm a "Heartbeat" guy all the way, but live, "Chewing Gum" was the jam. And she had the dance floor moving throughout.

asl, Monday, 4 July 2005 01:19 (twenty years ago)

MTV is running a "You Heard It First" feature on this Swedish bird.
Lots of propaganda and Madonna comparisons.

She's pretty hot.

ZionTrain (ZionTrain), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 22:10 (twenty years ago)

Next year they'll be discovering M.I.A. for us all!!

fandango (fandango), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 22:17 (twenty years ago)

Um, the entire last episode of Real World Austin (my, uh, wife watches it) had little MIA bumpers (I forget what they call them) at the start and end of each commercial break.

jeffery (jeffery), Thursday, 14 July 2005 00:29 (twenty years ago)

Her next b-sides will be named 'Can You Taste My Love?' and 'Come To Me', a cover of the JC Chasez track (with the line about masturbating intact and added moans and dirty talk).
-- B.A.R.M.S. (b4rim4_...), September 12th, 2004.

Still want this to happen.

Oh, 'Love Machine' is alright from what I heard on the top 40. Not essential and definitely not better than our lovely Annie!
-- B.A.R.M.S. (b4rim4_...), September 12th, 2004.

I'd like to take this back. I haven't been able to listen to Anniemal in full since December and only 'Me Plus One' has retained any genuine replay value, including my gleeful dancing to it in Camden last month. That, like 'The Greatest Hit', is better than 'Love Machine' and all 3 are easily the best of their respective (overrated) albums.

BARMS, Thursday, 14 July 2005 07:57 (twenty years ago)

I miraculously managed to avoid, like, ANY exposure to Annie for quite some time before "Chewing Gum" and "Heartbeat" made it onto our local college radio station's airwaves. Anniemal is such a killer album. Every song on here is stronger than like every other pop single released in the past year.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 14 July 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)

I kinda wish "Helpless Fool For Love" was going to be the next single.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 14 July 2005 13:00 (twenty years ago)

The remixes of "Happy Without You" are out now, but I missed out in the shop when they had come in. The digital downloads that are for sale are protected WMA's I can't play on the Mac. According to iTunes, Annie has DJ-Kicks album coming out on !K7 in October.

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 12:41 (twenty years ago)

I think the Riton mix is still up at www.headphonesex.co.uk.

brittle-lemon (brittle-lemon), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 12:57 (twenty years ago)

WOAH! annie dj kicks album?

piscesboy, Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:17 (twenty years ago)

How exciting, october is going to be a great month; Annie, Tatu, Lady Sov....

temeraire (r h), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

i have. she just plays records as opposed to mixing but her choices are great. she'll play electro pop, liquid liquid, a bit of rock, disco etc. etc.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

"Me Plus One" is the free download of the week on iTunes this week.

Nostalgic for the Pre-Conservative Hendrie (Bent Over at the Arclight), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:04 (twenty years ago)

I can't tell you how good "The Wedding" is; go over to Fluxblog and see if you can still cop it.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:11 (twenty years ago)

can anybody post the rapture remix? ever since hearing their totally underappreciated, totally wonderful remix of rinocerose, i have longed to hear more remixes from them... anyone have the annie remix or any others i might not know about?

firstworldman (firstworldman), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

and/or where can i buy the vinyl that actually has it in stock?

firstworldman (firstworldman), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

(in the states [sorry for the many posts])

firstworldman (firstworldman), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

Greg, I'm glad you like that Rapture mix! Now go to my Shortwave Set thread ;-)!
