It's too bad all that $$$$ they spent on Rogan meant they can't afford to hire people to clean up data errors like this.

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 02:10 (four years ago)

second half that's all ambient synth noodling is sublime

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 02:12 (four years ago)

Is anybody else getting "this video is unavailable" for the Days Like These link?

yeah but how, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 02:32 (four years ago)

probably a regional thing, i'm in australia

will be available in the rest of the world tomorrow

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 02:32 (four years ago)

the more i listen to it the more i love it!

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 04:19 (four years ago)

they really did play most/all of the album during the It's Friday I'm In Low sessions over the last year, looking at the titles - stoked to hear what the studio versions are going to be like.

(Don't Archive have a track called "Again" that ends with a long section where that was the only word that kept being repeated? Haven't heard it in a while, could be wrong)

StanM, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 05:05 (four years ago)

Yeah I really like the second half - pushes them further in the ambient electronic direction, but lighter than the ambient moments on Double Negative. first half is a very different song, it's alright

Vinnie, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 05:07 (four years ago)

i like how they're kinda doing a quiet/loud thing with their immense digital distortion now

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 05:12 (four years ago)

i imagine the studio versions will be pretty different if "days like these" is any indication bc they're not even doing the double negative tour levels of walls of distortion in those streamed performances, let alone what they've managed in the studio

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 05:21 (four years ago)

looking through tracklists for the friday i'm in low performances and they've at least played eight tracks from the album, and another five new ones that aren't on it (or were renamed etc.)

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 05:23 (four years ago)

"days like these" demo here: https://clcaudioclub.bandcamp.com/track/days-like-these-demo-by-low

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 11:36 (four years ago)

& apparently steve is no longer in the band, sounds like this record is just them as a duo?

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 11:37 (four years ago)

according to alan, steve left before they made this album because he had "very understandable personal reasons" that meant he would no longer be able to tour

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 11:56 (four years ago)

this track is awesome, and yes it's all about the multi stage ambient second half

intern at pelican brief consulting (Simon H.), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 12:34 (four years ago)

I love "Days Like These," and I extra love that I totally hear how it could have been a left-field "hit" if they got rid of the distortion and gave it a peppy drum beat, but no, this is Low.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 12:49 (four years ago)

They are becoming quite fond of big choruses/hooks of late (see also "disarray")

intern at pelican brief consulting (Simon H.), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 13:21 (four years ago)

is Cyrus officially the new bassist?

StanM, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 13:53 (four years ago)

they don't seem to have announced an official new bassist yet, don't know if it's going to be cyrus or someone else

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 14:11 (four years ago)

the shop i work at (LUNA in Indianapolis, IN) is doing an exclusive/ltd pressing of this (w/ Electric Fetus) if that's yr thing: https://shop.lunamusic.net/LOW-HEY-WHAT-LUNA-music-EXCLUSIVE-VINYL-LP-p/098787143553.htm

dronestreet, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 14:17 (four years ago)

re: new bassist

https://pitchfork.com/news/low-announce-new-album-hey-what-and-2022-tour-share-new-song-listen/

"Sparhawk and Parker may work with other musicians in the future, according to a band representative."

ufo, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 15:01 (four years ago)

not nearly as face-meltingly stunning as the double negative reveal but still really great. love that guitar tone obvs

diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 15:47 (four years ago)

shout out bj burton

maelin, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 17:14 (four years ago)

I think I love "Days Like These". that distortion and then the like ambient bliss out. wooo

gman59, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 18:20 (four years ago)

just occurred to me that they've never stuck with the same producer this long, I don't think? without actually looking this up I think Albini, Fridmann and Kramer all did two apiece?

intern at pelican brief consulting (Simon H.), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 18:27 (four years ago)

Hope - Kramer
Long Division - Kramer
Transmission EP - Kramer & Albini (two songs each)

Curtain - Steve Fisk

Dead Pilot - self-produced

Secret Name - Albini
Things We Lost - Albini

Trust - Tchad Blake (or was it self-produced and he only mixed it?)

Great Destroyer - Fridmann
Drums & Guns - Fridmann

C'mon - self-produced w/ Matt Beckley

Invisible Way - Tweedy

Ones & Sixes- Burton
Double Negative - Burton
Hey What - Burton

a superficial sheeb of intelligence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 19:48 (four years ago)

Adore “days like these”. It feels like it weaves together some of the sonic ideas of the last two albums in a really satisfying way.

Tim F, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 20:16 (four years ago)

Agreed w/ the praise for the second half of the new track

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 23:35 (four years ago)

the first half reminds me of how i felt upon first listening to The Great Destroyer when it came out

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 23 June 2021 00:03 (four years ago)

really wish they'd put out a live album of the double negative tour, the alternate live takes of those tracks are very cool

ufo, Wednesday, 23 June 2021 02:51 (four years ago)

There's quite a few shows from that tour on archive.org.

joni mitchell jarre (anagram), Wednesday, 23 June 2021 04:32 (four years ago)

just realised now that what "fly" has been reminding me of all this time is... u2's "moment of surrender"

same vocal hook

ufo, Wednesday, 23 June 2021 06:17 (four years ago)

How do people rate this band and their releases, I'm curious. Essential for me are "Long Division" and "Double Negative"

what's fgti up to these days? nothing. she's fake (flamboyant goon tie included), Wednesday, 23 June 2021 12:14 (four years ago)
