the really from album is so much more my speed than the young jesus, though i get the comparison

(young jesus was the album last year i felt myself forcing myself to like... maybe their next album will hit me, but the vocals ultimately ended up grating)

Brad's enthusiasm led me to check out Really From, which I should really love from the description, but I feel like it leans a little too far towards the jazz side of their sound than I'd prefer. It's not bad or anything, just doesn't strike the balance I'd prefer.

citizen's life in your glass world is sounding really really good to me today - the experimentation (aka "drum machines and vocal distortion some of the time") suits them and a few of the songs are seriously earwormy

listened to the citizen a couple more times, I think what they're up to here is basically 75% ersatz revival of mid-aughts alt radio stuff(eg bloc party, franz, and especially early killers) with 25% modern emo signifiers - vocals sound quite a bit like manchester orchestra, occasional screaming, downcast lyrics. etc. what sets the best songs apart is the sheer shamelessness - "death dance approximately" in particular is so aggressively hooky that I sort of found it repellent at first!

speaking of shameless "show me something that you like and I'll write you something better" is a pretty good fake pete wentz like

Good track. So can somebody trace the growth of vocal processing in emo/pop-punk/etc? Feels like it's become more and more prominent, not just Autotune but feeding vocals through all kinds of effects. I don't mind it, I think it can be used well, I'm just unclear on when it really permeated these genres.
