xpost Have been digging through those outtakes. A reall treat though I don’t all of them are Stones trax ( Jagger solo maybe on some?) and my ears tell me some of the vocals seem ... new-ish on lots of them.

The other thing "Moonlight Mile" reminds me of, that is not a song at all, is the passage from As I Lay Dying that begins, "In a strange room you must empty yourself for sleep" and ends, "How often have I lain beneath rain on a strange roof, thinking of home."

I've been listening to lots of Stones this week in the wake of Charlie Watts' passing, and today--after many years of listening to "Sway"--I have learned that it's "that demon life has got you in its sway," not "that mean old life forgot you in its sway." "Demon life" goes way harder

for some reason, just before watts died i was having a moment with Between the Buttons. many moments, like on repeat for days and days. i like the usual big 4 stones albums (beggar's through exile), but i no longer think those are their best. sticky fingers seems so SLOW now!

not trying to set up a strawman or talk shit on sticky fingers or anything -- i'm pretty sure those are the the consensus "big 4" with the stones, right, and their 1966/67 stuff fucking rules!

well, i guess it was...1971...

there are a lot of songs featuring horny white men singing about having sex with people of color around that time, but that one seems especially tone deaf, and it also points to a kind of songwriting style for them (the kind that is most frequently played on the radio, like start me up) that is not my favorite
