ufo at 1:36 7 Mar 21endorsing Ngo's book is very much in line with the rest of Winston Marshall's twitter too. it's 90% anti-china stuff and then the rest is pro-brexit, anti-woke, the left are the real extremists, endorsing kanye's weird christian turn, etc.
― Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Sunday, 7 March 2021 08:38 (three years ago) link
there's a fair bit that crosses the line from just HK freedom stuff into advocating for the west taking a harder line against china & increasing tensions etc.
― ufo, Sunday, 7 March 2021 09:39 (three years ago) link
I didn't see anything objectionable in that part, Western governments have been utterly cowardly on HK & Xinjiang.

(Jordan) Peterson posted a photo of himself with Lovett and bandmates Winston Marshall and Ted Dwane at their studio. It took a couple of months for the music press to notice it, but when they did there was a small outcry – and an opportunity for wags on social media to lay into the band (“I assumed they were, ‘My dad was a vicar’ Tory, not ‘concerned about white birthrates’ Tory,” quipped one Twitter user). Lovett is unapologetic. “I looked forward to having a conversation with him, but only because I wanted to have a conversation with as many people as possible,” he says, although he can’t remember what they actually talked about. ..He describes Peterson as “an intellectualist more than anything: I don’t think he particularly likes how political it is”. Mumford smirks back: “I think he loves it.”

In response to "I don't know why he is so into this but it's really worrying to me that it's automatically counted as a strike against someone" I would ask you: what do you know about Andy Ngo, what do you know about what his book is actually about, and what do you know about what he has gotten up to for a number of years that has led up to this book? If you know plenty about Andy Ngo and are asking that question then there isn't much to say. In my opinion calling Andy Ngo "brave" and his book "important" AFTER having read it isn't really a casual statement. You believe some terrible shit if you take Andy seriously (he lies fucking ALL THE TIME) or, worse, think that he is making these points in good faith and also agree with them (which it is hard to suggest this asshole doesn't since he is literally endorsing the book).

CaAL was talking about the HK stuff, not the Ngo stuff. Ngo is fash, pure and simple.

“I assumed they were, ‘My dad was a vicar’ Tory, not ‘concerned about white birthrates’ Tory”
^^^ Yeah, this is about it. Obviously a foul and despicable band from the off, but I had no idea a) how fucking insanely posh they are, and b) how fucking insanely fash they are.

It's strange, I remember a few years ago they released a single with Baaba Maal that I actually...well, it wasn't as terrible as I thought it was going to be, let's just say that. (I only heard it because it played constantly on the radio in the small geographic region where i was living).

it hasn't been very efficient, has it? while the death toll has been truly awful, it is only 0.003% (approx) of the global population.
