ty for that pic

Clint Boon has been one of the earliest & most dedicated baggy tribute DJs, and iirc also ran nostalgia bus tours in Manchester? certainly big enough to keep his ex-singer off the bill if they still hate each other

Guy on the left in the Goldplay Live pic (guessing he's the drummer) looks like an escapee from Germany's biggest Winger tribute, Schwinger.

https://www.theguardian.com/music/2021/mar/20/one-to-watch-the-clockworks-galway-alan-mcgee

"... it’s fair to say that Creation Records founder Alan McGee has a nose for up-and-coming guitar bands. The Clockworks first came to his attention in 2019 when guitarist Sean Connelly messaged him on Instagram, saying: “McGee: We’re the punk rock version of the Streets.” McGee was impressed enough by a demo to go and see one of their rehearsals at home in Galway, at which frontman James McGregor performed with such intensity that he broke his mic stand. McGee felt it was the best rehearsal he’d seen since early Oasis, and signed them that night."

the streets reference is almost edgy in - yet somehow also absolutely perfect for - this context

We should do a poll of the one hundred-and-some crap acts Alan has gassed up as 'The Next..' whoever.

I also had this sponsored post appear on facebook the other day, which seemed ripe for this thread from the name and photo alone.

The Sherlocks, out standing in their (dad's) field. I dread to think what their MASSIVE ANNOUNCEMENT was.

"... it’s fair to say that Creation Records founder Alan McGee has a nose for up-and-coming guitar bands."

The last 20-odd years of his career suggests otherwise.

Still dining out on Oasis I see (who he apparently didn't even want to sign, so legend has it).

Actually I think it was this 15 year old kid named John Lennon, no joke.

I see he's still going but has dropped the Lennon. He was probably encouraged to play up to his full given name. Poor get

The issue or issues of NME introducing all three of those bands as saviours of music was peak me buying NME as a kid.

Didn't the Campag Velocet guy mostly dress in cycling shirts? That was probably a good look by hazy memory but I'm not searching to confirm, mainly because I don't want Campag Velocet in my search history. I thought I had a 12" of theirs but turns out I was confusing them with Regular Fries. So now Campag Velocet are in my living room search history. I think the record I'm thinking of was also on Rabid Badger records lol 1998 what the fuck was I thinking. Lo-Fidelity Allstars had some bangers tho, mostly after they ditched the "singer"

i f*cking loved the fries.
first album in particular.
the last band i have tried to get everything that was available on cd.
still listen to them a lot, and to be fair, same goes for the other 2 bands.
never saw any of them live, and had given buying the nme so have no idea what they looked/interviewed like, nor care.
