I already sent Todd a link.

I think it's a cool line-up.
I've only seen 2 of these bands before (and I liked them), but I've been wanting to see the others...

Russ, Wednesday, 19 May 2004 01:02 (twenty years ago) link

Measles Mumps Rubella are fantastic if you've never heard circa 1981 punk-funk. If you have, then they are still entertaining but not exactly "fantastic." And old curmudgeon me does like some new punk-funk...

I'm with Matos on wanting to see an eclectic bill with more than 1 funk act.

Steve Kiviat (Steve K), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 02:20 (twenty years ago) link

Bravo to schizo bills - Russ. Most shows 'round town you *know* why so-and-so is opening for so-and-so, right? Seeing old NY Rocker papers used to blow my mind, like 1980 ads for the Feelies with Sun Ra and DNA together. I wondered if people moaned about the token jazz.

The SB are gonna open for the Tubes at BB King's, right?

Brian Turner (btwfmu), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 02:48 (twenty years ago) link

haha "schizo"

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 03:01 (twenty years ago) link

wait, steve, did I say they were a fantastic live band? That must've been a type because I've definately heard 1981 punk-funk. I've heard it so much I have 2 copies of Medium Medium's The Glitterhouse.

And Lauren. I will indeed play said set. Trust me, you'd rather I do it between bands when everyone is outside smoking then after bands when you're hoping people will stick around and dance or something like that. It's good and fun and involves JJ Fad and the Unknown DJ, good times for all.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 04:50 (twenty years ago) link

that's "typo".

I made a typo spelling the word typo.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 04:52 (twenty years ago) link

QUOTATIONS FROM TIME WARNER CABLE (hstencil), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 15:14 (twenty years ago) link

Re: Blood on The Walls.

I mean white clogs is one thing, but getting into a fairly new Volvo (I think it was a volvo??) station wagon, kinda defeats the idea of his band Name.

I'm just sayin.

ddb, Wednesday, 19 May 2004 15:36 (twenty years ago) link

You can take him!!!!!

perhaps, but courtney would kick his ass for sure.

i do like blood on the wall, volvo or no volvo.

QUOTATIONS FROM DUDE I MET HER A COUPLE TIMES (hstencil), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 15:43 (twenty years ago) link

Steve, I liked MMR because they DID remind me of 1981-era punk-funk, namely the Pop Group and early PiL.

most NYers are from somewhere else anyway. Vote for Hillary in 2008.

QUOTATIONS FROM E.B. WHITE (hstencil), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 15:55 (twenty years ago) link

You know, for some reason I think that it's kinda cool that the guy drives a Volvo. If he's comfortable with being middle class, that's alright by me. It's more lame to hide that stuff for indie cred.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:13 (twenty years ago) link

Who the fuck cares what cars people in rock bands drive?

QUOTATIONS FROM THE PRICE BOOK (hstencil), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:16 (twenty years ago) link

I have no problem with volvos or anyone driving them....but shouldn't a guy in a band called Blood On the Walls be driving a BLACK VAN with a grim reaper airbrused on it's side, drunk?

ddb, Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:16 (twenty years ago) link

No, he should be driving an Abrams tank.

QUOTATIONS FROM GENERAL GEORGE S. PATTON (hstencil), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:17 (twenty years ago) link

Maybe he's still in the process of airbrushing it. Until it's just right, they're using dad's old Volvo.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:18 (twenty years ago) link

ok, fair enough.

ddb, Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:19 (twenty years ago) link

omg my dream vehicle. but maybe a lady sorcerer would be better than the grim reaper.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:22 (twenty years ago) link

Rage Against the Machine should've toured with bikes.

QUOTATIONS FROM COMMANDANTE MARCOS (hstencil), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:22 (twenty years ago) link

Ralph Lauren Lattice RED Paint on the Walls

ddb, Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:22 (twenty years ago) link

I think that a lady sorceress would probably be better for the Fiery Furnaces tour van.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:23 (twenty years ago) link

Pavement should've toured in Fred Flintstone-mobiles.

QUOTATIONS FROM CHAIRMAN MALKMUS (hstencil), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:23 (twenty years ago) link

"How dare they name themselves Fiery Furnaces? They never worked in a forge in their ever-lovin' lives!"

QUOTATIONS FROM CHAIRMAN CLASS WARFARE (hstencil), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:24 (twenty years ago) link
