If the neck doesn't split, you must acquit

Trying to imagine Hendrix going to Fender and Monterey security days in advance like "OK if I torch this strat? I'll lay some protective stuff on the stage first, don't worry"

Or Sinead dutifully securing the green light from the Catholic church before tearing up the pic of old popey on national tv

smashing an instrument is a meaningless rockstar gesture even when done, uh, correctly afaic but watching that clip I felt embarrassed for everyone involved

the amount of conversation about this even here is almost certainly misogyny

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Monday, 8 February 2021 15:39 (five years ago)

I dunno it's just a goofy thing imo

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 8 February 2021 15:39 (five years ago)

the funniest part is that they made a fake monitor for the event per bridgers on twitter, i was wondering because i thought that thing really sparked up a lot for getting hit with a guitar, usually stage wedges are generally passive speakers, but even if they were powered that would be a lot

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 8 February 2021 15:43 (five years ago)

Misogynist take on live sound imo

to party with our demons (Sund4r), Monday, 8 February 2021 16:01 (five years ago)

the band begins to play. the lead singer is singing. but what's this -- she is also winding new pickups for her guitar. will she finish assembling the guitar by the time the song reaches her solo? nobody knows. she is soldering the pickup wire to the 5-way switch. the iron isn't hot enough! this is fucking rock n' roll.

isnt that the "from a motel 6" video

adam, Monday, 8 February 2021 16:55 (five years ago)

she's throwing the solder balls from the cold joints into the audience! she joins the wires with twist-ons because who gives a shit. she didn't add any capacitors -- every frequency is invited to this party of a solo. here it comes!

I thought the performances were fine by SNL standards and the guitar-smashing was jokey fun. It's just exhausting the things people decide need to be A Topic of Conversation.

for each new snl ep, there's an article that describes what the cast and guests said in the 15 second promos. this is just normal snl churn.

Just watched her do “Kyoto” with Phillip Glass on piano, Jackson Browne on backing vocals and some orchestral string players whose names I didn’t catch , as part of the Tibet House benefit stream

curmudgeon, Thursday, 18 February 2021 02:55 (five years ago)

She also did “Moon Song” with the same musicians

curmudgeon, Thursday, 18 February 2021 03:00 (five years ago)

Both done in a very laidback manner but with enough spark and tunefulness

i might love this album too much. it's like everything i every wanted from an indie album in one spot.

treeship., Monday, 8 March 2021 22:02 (five years ago)

i thought i had aged out of loving albums like this, like really resonating with the lyrics and overall mood in such a direct, unmediated way

Then i changed my miiiiind

not really my vibe but here's a new Luminous Kid single with Bridgers chiming in with spoken word at around the 3 minute moment

Finally announced a 2021 tour. Wish there was another chance to see her in Chicago that didn't involve Pitchfork Fest but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So, um. I've seen the story pop up a few different prominent places now, and I don't know what to make of the fact that they all seem to similarly focus on the many salacious details but sort of glide right past the accusation that that producer dude who is suing for defamation is *literally a murderer*, which seems a much more serious and extreme accusation than fraud and theft etc..

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 30 September 2021 13:04 (four years ago)

tone of reporting around this is weird but i guess they can't outright say the dude suing her is a scumbag

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Thursday, 30 September 2021 13:11 (four years ago)

gotta be careful around literally a murder

When Young Sheldon began to rap (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 30 September 2021 13:53 (four years ago)

Yeah, while I can't promise I've read everything about this, it all scans like he's trying to get ahead of some very serious shit coming down on his head. Combined with his suit against Noel Wells, it feels more like damage control.

a superficial sheeb of intelligence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 30 September 2021 14:01 (four years ago)

Um...ngl, but I'm reading that there are no police reports associated with these alleged incidents? Obviously FTP, but it's a little unhinged to assume that this guy murders and bludgeons people based on the hearsay in a former lover's now-deleted Instagram account?

Fuck the Police

I'm a sovereign jazz citizen (the table is the table), Thursday, 30 September 2021 16:04 (four years ago)

I just found it odd that none of the stories *lead* with the accusation of murder. It's like, "he lies, he cheats, he's a fraud, he murdered someone, he smells bad, he's not nice ..."

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 30 September 2021 17:29 (four years ago)

Because Bridgers didn't accuse him of that? "Phoebe Bridgers sued for linking to the Instagram of Guy's Ex-Girlfriend who accuses him of murder, abuse" is kind of a strange lede.

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Thursday, 30 September 2021 17:39 (four years ago)

Oh, I know. It's just how it's listed in his response to the accusations.

Nelson alleges Bannon “published false, defamatory, and misleading statements about (him) stating, among other things, that (Nelson) is a career criminal, murdered a man, commits racially-motivated hate crimes, abuses women, stole hundreds of thousands of dollars, trafficked in stolen or fake goods, committed cybercrimes, and defrauded numerous people.”
Those are all horrible things, but "murdered a man" still stands out. Accusing someone of murder seems a step above the usual "defamatory statements."

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 30 September 2021 17:48 (four years ago)

Especially possibly racially-motivated murder.

NGL— this might be bad faith and spurious on his part, but I'm also not really buying "was a SoCal Klansman who committed sexual cybercrimes" accusations either.

I'm a sovereign jazz citizen (the table is the table), Thursday, 30 September 2021 18:00 (four years ago)

I've only seen the (weird) Pitchfork story, but I don't know why they would lead with the accusation of murder. As mentioned above, it seems to have been made in a now-deleted Instagram account, and the guy himself raised it in a defamation suit last December. I don't know why that and the other old suit even newsworthy (or even his suit against Bridgers, tbh).

juristic person (morrisp), Thursday, 30 September 2021 18:55 (four years ago)

My take on the Pfork piece is they did this dude a weird solid by airing out claims he's been making in various lawsuits. No one knows this guy, who gaf?

juristic person (morrisp), Thursday, 30 September 2021 18:57 (four years ago)

yeah, this feels like fallout from a failed effort to extort phoebe bridgers

got tix to see her in June

two months pass...

yeah, great show but she had to stop the show like 5 times for medical emergencies bc people kept on passing out from dehydration (apparently)

also, people were lining up since 5pm the day before so when the doors opened, they all ran to the front and several people were trampled

Murgatroid, Thursday, 9 June 2022 15:06 (three years ago)

somewhere along the line i joined the Phoebe subreddit and i swear everyone in there is super young and seeing her for their first-ever concert. they are all asking each other about when they should get in line, how early do they need to get there to be in the front row, where the merch stands are, how much money do they need to buy all the merch, etc.

it should be cute but it's actually annoying. this may be because i am a 46-year-old member of the Phoebe Bridgers subreddit.
