This one's noise/metal-free, apparently.

this preview track has me excited to hear the rest for sure

That song is amazing. Not sure about an entire album without noise/metal elements, though. For me the religious fire and brimstone works best as a metaphorical channelling of pain and fury and without the noise element it might not have the same personal level of catharsis.

Wow, good song.

Just purchased - if this gets even close to as good as Caligula I'll use so much hyperbole Whiney will need to make another poll.

Loved this on first listen through. Buying.

Fantastic record. Different sound-world than Caligula while also certainly 100% recognizable as being from the same artist. Great follow-up.Boston tour date this Fall. Can't wait.

I hope she finds some interesting new avenues to pursue. otoh, I'm very excited that I'll be seeing her perform in less than a week!

Been thinking of what to say about that statement, but basically “Fair play to ye” covers it.

Saw her kick off her US tour last night, fantastic show. It was split into two parts, the first was a medley of hymns performed on prepared piano bookended by her doing a sermon of sorts, all under the red glow of electronic candles. The hymns fit well with her overall project, but were a bit more light and simple than her original material. This part of the show ended very abruptly after probably less than 30 minutes and the house lights came on, which was very confusing because it wasn't clear if that was the entire show or not.
After about a 30 minute break, she came back and did a longer performance focused mainly on material from SINNER with a couple songs from other albums thrown in plus versions of "Katie Cruel" and "Jolene". It was pretty much everything you'd expect. Her voice was astounding, just absolutely masterful control and range, despite having to battle through some wonky mic issues, which luckily got sorted about halfway through. In this section she mostly sang to backing tracks which sounded huge and disturbing, although she did return to the piano toward the end, including a song where she created a cool drone by running a cord back and forth around a low piano string.

I made it to the Lingua Ignota show in Montreal on Sunday, along with our thread-starter who I got to meet for the first time. It was wonderful. The opening was absolutely perfect. The lights went down, the room was totally dark, with a low background hum of insects buzzing and chirping. Everyone was looking towards the stage. Then there was a shuffling in the crowd next to us, and suddenly she was right there; she turned on this bright lamp and went into "O Death".
We probably had roughly the same setlist as Moodles, minus the sermon. The second set was mostly songs from Sinner Get Ready, and a few from Caligula. Some astonishing moments, especially on songs like "I Am the One Who Bends the Tall Grasses" where she shifts through so many different vocal registers.

Okay, heard the advance of this about a month back -- it's quite stirking -- so here's her new project/moniker/etc:

STRIKING, rather. Anyway.
Separate liner notes at the site but here's the text of the accompanying mailout on Bandcamp:
Hello friends, I am here presenting my new release SAVED! under my given name, jazzed up a smidge, as I say goodnight to Lingua Ignota for the foreseeable future. I am proud of the work I’ve done with Lingy but it is time to evolve personally & artistically, & in this project you will hear tributaries followed from previously walked paths, & new directions taken entirely, yet I am what I am still. This record is about undoing and rebuilding, the complex process of healing, made analogous to evangelical conversion. It is spartan, but there are deep & intentional reads to be found in its sonics & its messaging. It is quite unhinged. It is, at different times: funny, despairing, full of hope, and full of terror. It may not resonate with all Lingy lovers, but I hope it hits a chord with some of you. Regardless I thank you all for your support for what is and what has been.

Lingua Ignota's msuic never really quite struck me as much as it did some of you, but I'm really into this direction
― Paul Ponzi, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 15:10 (nine months ago) link
so it seems like this is basically the studio version of the medley of hymns I mentioned in my concert recap above, first track sounds great!
― Muad'Doob (Moodles), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 15:16 (nine months ago) link
silly little hymns about her silly little salvation
― imago, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 15:18 (nine months ago) link
This is pretty hilarious to me because I've been scratching my head for months over the idea that she's abandoning Lingua Ignota and going for something less personally traumatic. Like what is she going to do, maybe dabble in future pop? Was this really just a persona that she can put on and take off, because it felt really personal? But of course it's just the exact same thing, literally music she was already performing as Lingua Ignota, maybe a fraction less dark and intense than her previous albums.
