"mars the god of war" is the point of the album where my brain can no longer handle how good this band is

title track on jump rope gazers is the best song ever written by anybody

i love these kinds of posts

I always thought this seemed like a very Brad friendly album. You Are A Beam Of Light makes me think of the ballads on After Laughter.

kitchen person, Thursday, 4 February 2021 00:13 (five years ago)

I should revisit the new one, often find if a record wasn't quite what I was expecting I can come back to it later and appreciate it better without all the expectations

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 4 February 2021 00:53 (five years ago)

yes you should because that's *exactly* what happened to me

listen with headphones, treasure the guitar tone, luxuriate in the background vocals, let the melodies carry you out of this world

Same.

This record is as great as FMHM, which I didn't think was possible.

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 4 February 2021 02:15 (five years ago)

the slowed down part in "don't go away".... pure rock power

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 4 February 2021 03:48 (five years ago)

I think I like 'em about the same in different ways. They have surprisingly distinct ~vibes~

i'm listening again and maybe it really should have been on my ballot but this year was so stacked

ufo, Thursday, 4 February 2021 04:29 (five years ago)

This record is just 40 minutes of earworms.

Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 00:24 (five years ago)

It's stunning just how good they sound in that KEXP clip

alpine static, Tuesday, 9 February 2021 02:04 (five years ago)

two weeks pass...

I would like to read a very wonky interview about how Liz and Longhair handle songwriting, production, etc. Essentially, I would just like to know if she is a timeless, heart-stopping super-genius or if *together* they are a timeless, heart-stopping super-genius team. (No doubting or dismissing Liz implied here, to be clear.)

I would also like to know if Longhair writes his own songs and if so I would like to hear them.

alpine static, Monday, 1 March 2021 23:25 (five years ago)

was reminded by instagram that i saw them live at music hall of williamsburg two years ago today. hopefully again soon.

little johnny juul (voodoo chili), Monday, 1 March 2021 23:28 (five years ago)

I remember seeing a beths interview (maybe it was their KEXP performance?) where longhair says that Liz basically runs the show.

enochroot, Tuesday, 2 March 2021 02:52 (five years ago)

https://www.13thfloor.co.nz/interview-elizabeth-stokes-of-the-beths/

Liz writes music and lyrics and then brings them to band who help some with arrangements.

curmudgeon, Tuesday, 2 March 2021 05:16 (five years ago)

just now listening to the new one... how is this album even possible?!

swing out sister: live in new donk city (geoffreyess), Saturday, 13 March 2021 17:12 (five years ago)

Even possible?

curmudgeon, Saturday, 13 March 2021 21:49 (five years ago)

i can't even

Zach_TBD (Karl Malone), Saturday, 13 March 2021 22:25 (five years ago)

'cause it's so good. sorry, I don't normally say things like that.

swing out sister: live in new donk city (geoffreyess), Saturday, 13 March 2021 22:56 (five years ago)

also I see the post above mine very clearly explains how it's possible

In other Beths news, they're apparently in middle of recording album #3, which they expect to take the rest of the year.

enochroot, Tuesday, 21 September 2021 17:59 (four years ago)

and they've got a new live album out

That chorus was so unexpected. Love everything about it.

These guys just don't miss.

kitchen person, Wednesday, 9 February 2022 03:03 (four years ago)

Huh, "sitting" and "regretting" rhyme with a NZ accent.

enochroot, Wednesday, 9 February 2022 04:33 (four years ago)

the lyric is "setting and regretting" actually

just the defining feature of the nz accent (especially compared to aus) is the i/e swap which makes 'sitting' and 'setting' sound like the other

ufo, Wednesday, 9 February 2022 04:43 (four years ago)

I just played this a bunch of times in a row. Wonder if this means an album is coming soon?

kitchen person, Wednesday, 9 February 2022 04:53 (four years ago)

there's a new album confirmed for this year yeah

Silence is Golden (2nd link) - so good!

nostormo, Wednesday, 9 February 2022 05:14 (four years ago)

these guys are probably one of the few bands out there right now where if i hear a new album's coming soon i'm just absolutely filled with joy. this is exactly what i needed to hear

josh az (2011nostalgia), Wednesday, 9 February 2022 05:18 (four years ago)

my most anticipated album of 2022, no question

alpine static, Wednesday, 9 February 2022 07:10 (four years ago)

"When You Know You Know" is scratching the same itch as "Out of Sight" from the last album.

+1 to this being my #1 anticipated 2022 release. Their show here got moved to a bigger venue, so the word is getting out maybe?

enochroot, Wednesday, 9 February 2022 14:43 (four years ago)

Had to miss their show last night to go to band practice (no regrets!). New stuff sounds great!

i liked the shot of the drummer "driving the car" (keeping the engines running, keeping the beat) during the solo of the guitar player (who has lost his glasses)
