Yeah, I was referring to his general musical collaboration, not purely vocals, though I do like his backing vocals on the chorus of "Ivy". He did the drums and electric guitar on "Cowboy." Also the banjo on "Ivy," along with the triangle, apparently.

I earnestly love The National but I seem to be allergic to everything they and their associates touch.

Every time I hear Swift duet with Bon Iver or Berninger I think, "Her characters can't be as smart or observant as I or she thinks if she dates these morose trembly dudes."

I like The National in bits, Dessner's a solid collaborator, just don't think their sensibilities mesh.

had missed this perfect little post by Brad:

every time i listened to that hook last year it's like it cleared out all the bad air in the room

i nearly preordered it on the strength of that track but figured Sufjan would be exactly the sort of person to make a B-side miles ahead of anything on the album proper

though I've only listened to The Ascension once, thought it was pretty good for the first 2 tracks then found myself incredibly bored as everything sounded the same as everything else

Somebody on ILM called Charli’s 2020 album a definitive quarantine document and now it’s hard for me to hear “anthem” as anything other than the superjacked, strobelit, ultrathirsty bedroom pop COVID keen of desperation that it is.

I've liked other things she's done, but a big part of why I like that song is the Gold Panda sample.

Conversely this is the first year I’ve fully bought into charli

I'll save my full rapturous appraisal for the albums poll, but this is one of the most fun things I heard last year. What forks said about desperation is exactly right. 'Anthems' is the epitome of quarantined liminal hysteria - the fighting of dark madness with bubblegum mania and dancing!
