i am an absolute dumbass for sleeping on this album. nothing deliberate, just was waiting for the right mood to take me. that said i thought the alternate version of fire-mare, which i heard via the longlist, was amazing!
― Specific Ocean Blue (dog latin), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:42 (five years ago)
yes a great tune this, regret not voting for it tbfi'm not even sure i voted for 25 as well which makes it worse, was in a big rush :(
― nxd, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:42 (five years ago)
TOO LOW
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:44 (five years ago)
Love this. I have not listened to the album, stupidly.
― Heavy Messages (jed_), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:45 (five years ago)
hooray for "Repeat"!
I guess I'm somewhat out of step with the ILM afrohouse crew (though at least one thing we agree on should place).
― rob, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:45 (five years ago)
brb gonna make a house remix of "a bloody morning," i can hear it
― mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:46 (five years ago)
voted for the album but a great track indeed
― ufo, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:46 (five years ago)

Mark me down as an immediate convert to the church of Kelly Lee Owens; why did you bastards let me go without for so long? Anyways, no time like the present for both me and you to delve into KLO’s deeply trippy blend of ambient techno, dreampop and contemporary classical. Issa vibe.

Kelly Lee Owens (2017)
Love this, and her whole album tbh (which I voted for in that poll). I guess the track with John Cale would have placed by now if it were going to, oh well.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:56 (five years ago)
Is this the theme song for the UK politics thread?
― emil.y, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:57 (five years ago)
music for centrists
― imago, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:57 (five years ago)
goddammit xp
Ha!
this album is great, especially drunk at 2am
― nxd, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:58 (five years ago)
smh completely forgot about her in both ballots. the album was obviously incredible but i think i only listened once all the way through.
― tiwa-nty one savage (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:58 (five years ago)
Jokes about melts aside, this is good imo. I think I tried the album a little and didn't get into it, but it's working for me now.
― emil.y, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:59 (five years ago)
This would have probably been the Kelley Lee Owens track I voted for, but I just voted for the album instead.
― silverfish, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:01 (five years ago)
I took the melt position of voting for the album
― rob, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:01 (five years ago)
and I think the only track I might have singled out would be the John Cale one
― rob, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:02 (five years ago)
I'm a bit sad I didn't find a way to make room for Owen Pallett on either of my ballots this year.
― justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:03 (five years ago)
Oops, I've been ignoring Kelly Lee Owens because I thought she was something else entirely (I guess a pop or country singer based on her name? My bad).
― change display name (Jordan), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:04 (five years ago)
Ignore the Radiohead cover that kicks off the album, it's not bad or anything, but the rest is amazing
― flamboyant goon tie included, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:05 (five years ago)
her previous album is great throughout too
― nxd, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:07 (five years ago)
I like both Kelly Lee Owens' albums, but I'm yet to really fall for them properly. I can't put my finger on why they don't fully connect with me.
I voted for Island over any individual Owen Pallett tracks. Happy to see A Bloody Morning make it as it's definitely one of my favourites on the album. Looking forward to that getting a good position on here next week.

If you had told me I would warm over time to a funkless disco track, I would’ve been dubious but “Lick”’s blip blop innocence and Lanza’s childlike warmth got under my skin. YMMV but I found it an endearing post-chillwave little sister to The Jets’ “Crush on You”.

I like the KLO album fairly well apart from that track, I think.
― Heavy Messages (jed_), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:10 (five years ago)
two great songs in a row i didn't vote for
― mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:12 (five years ago)
yup
― stylish but illegal (Simon H.), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:12 (five years ago)
didn't realise she was back! i recall enjoying 'oh no' a few years ago
will listen to this record later
― nxd, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:13 (five years ago)
reminds me of Arthur Russell.

top youtube commenter for Lick in Heaven calls it "aggressively normcore" which is a phrase I wish had occurred to me sooner.
― the serious avant-garde universalist right now (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:14 (five years ago)
what is it with people covering Weird Fishes/Arpeggi last year?
― Specific Ocean Blue (dog latin), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:15 (five years ago)
that descriptor applies way more to some other stuff that's placed imho xp
― stylish but illegal (Simon H.), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:15 (five years ago)
Idk but both covers were excellent and distinct enough to justify their existence
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:16 (five years ago)
the youtube commenter meant the video, not the song xp
― mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:16 (five years ago)
Saved the J Hus and Koffee track from the noms playlist. I liked the little 'blessings' echo of 'Toast' that surfaces at some point.
I much preferred Waxahatchee in the raw bedroom pop of Cerulean Salt than this slightly watery alt-country, but it's fine.
Owen Pallett totally killed with this whole album - definitely a stand-out track but I voted for a different one (hopefully still to place?).
― tangenttangent, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:16 (five years ago)
yeah I'm watching now and I'm a dummy xp
― stylish but illegal (Simon H.), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:17 (five years ago)
funkless? the video would suggest it's self-consciously in the so-stiff-its-funky vein of disco
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:19 (five years ago)
hook the thomas dolby-esque synth flourish at the end of each chorus in "lick in heaven" directly into my veins
― mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:19 (five years ago)
its nice. sounds apparent to me that jeremy greenspan is involved
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:20 (five years ago)
I placed Jessy's album ahead of all the more straight ahead disco stuff from 2020. Cuz I couldn't go dancing? who can say.
― maf you one two (maffew12), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:20 (five years ago)
I can’t quite get Jessy Lanza but Lick in Heaven is the closest I’ve gotten to liking her music.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:20 (five years ago)
Highly recommend the entire album and the recent remix EP!
― maf you one two (maffew12), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:21 (five years ago)
I meant to spend more time with this album in 2020, because I was really looking forward to it coming out, but it just fell by the wayside. I guess I'll do it this year.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:21 (five years ago)
Oh more stuff I voted for. 'Lick In Heaven' another of my most played last year. #deadcatplaylist
― nashwan, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 16:22 (five years ago)
Yes, I might need to give her last album a second chance.
