I am listening to Waxahatchee for the first time

The singer sounds like Taylor Swift with a head cold

This is not my bag at all

Hello Nice FBI Lady (DJP), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:24 (five years ago)

I don't get waxahatchee at all and I like a lot of theoretically similar artists

stylish but illegal (Simon H.), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:25 (five years ago)

oh the spanish remix is cooler, the guests really take it in an interesting direction. i would have voted for that

ufo, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:25 (five years ago)

this was the first new waxahatchee material i've heard since out of the storm(?) and i can't say i love the new style as a bed for her voice

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:25 (five years ago)

Swearin' >>> Waxahatchee IMO

american primitive stylophone (zchyrs), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:25 (five years ago)

one positive re: "Jerusalema" not catching on in the US is that we didn't have to deal with a remix featuring Justin Bieber

― Hello Nice FBI Lady (DJP), dinsdag 26 januari 2021

it might happen yet! they don't call this song "the Macarena of the 21st century" for nothing!

(sigh... didn't I tell myself to get back to work?)

Long Tall Arsetee & the Shaker Intros (breastcrawl), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:25 (five years ago)

otm though i always feel weird comparing the projects bc they're sisters and the bands are v different at this point

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:26 (five years ago)

Fuck me, that vocal is truly horrible.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:26 (five years ago)

Spotify started playing "Pig Feet" immediately after "Fire" ended, kind of like it was apologizing for what I had just sat through

Hello Nice FBI Lady (DJP), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:27 (five years ago)

not a fan but dont actively dislike this

nxd, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:28 (five years ago)

i'm a little surprised this was as big as it was among critics last year but also lol whatever

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:28 (five years ago)

one positive re: "Jerusalema" not catching on in the US is that we didn't have to deal with a remix featuring Justin Bieber

or fucking wale!

tiwa-nty one savage (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:29 (five years ago)

like this is the song "fire" i've heard so much about? ok

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:29 (five years ago)

someone is gonna have to confess to voting for this

imago, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:30 (five years ago)

i didn't but your reaction is making me wish i did

tiwa-nty one savage (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:31 (five years ago)

tbh I have long felt gaslit by the praise for their records so this outpouring of confusion is almost cathartic

stylish but illegal (Simon H.), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:31 (five years ago)

xps yeah maybe I'm being unfair making that comparison

american primitive stylophone (zchyrs), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:31 (five years ago)

the outpouring of hate is making me feel just as confused as the overwhelming critical acclaim

ufo, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:32 (five years ago)

this is how pervasive it has become: check out this Dutch-language cover version for carnival season, dance steps included. (and those steps are oh so easy to learn)

Long Tall Arsetee & the Shaker Intros (breastcrawl), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:32 (five years ago)

you just can't believe me
when I show you votes for Waxahatchee
(confusion!)

Hello Nice FBI Lady (DJP), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:32 (five years ago)

does anyone admit to anything en masse when these polls come round?

meticulously crafted, socially responsible, morally upsta (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:33 (five years ago)

i was also mystified by the love this album got from the flannel crowd, but i like the way her voice sounds on the song, and more songs should use electric keys as their sonic bedrock

tiwa-nty one savage (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:33 (five years ago)

there's no sense in telling me
about the glories of Waxahatchee

meticulously crafted, socially responsible, morally upsta (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:34 (five years ago)

i didn't vote for Fire but regular exposure to it in the playlist won me over. I didn't like it the first three times I listened to it but I put it into regular rotation for a few days and surprised myself.

This for sure is true

Longtime ILXors are aware that the creator of one of our tied #55’s has been family here for years, but this board’s love for Owen’s music isn’t just a question of hometown pride. Pallett’s work has only gotten stronger and more themselves over the past fifteen years. Their 2020 LP Island is something of a journey; skating through the interstitials to explore the mysteries of each song means ducking and being decked by pinballing emotions inscrutable and aching, then being arrested by cutscenes of elven innocence and voices of experience. It’s a not-so-subtle reminder that Owen’s amalgamation of contemporary classical and video game structure has outlasted their Square one beginnings. The album is best experienced in its completion but, if you had to pick a single rose from the bouquet, you couldn’t do much better than this elegiac end-of-the-world call to dance and weep.

imago, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:37 (five years ago)

owen good

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:38 (five years ago)

I lied. #9. Sorry fgti lol

imago, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:38 (five years ago)

Amazing video too. Owen's released 3 superlative videos from Island and they're all worth checking out

imago, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:39 (five years ago)

I think it's 100% criminal not to vote for ILX musicians in this poll because everyone who has posted their music here has been criminally, embarrassingly good at what they do, as evidenced by this song.

Hello Nice FBI Lady (DJP), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:39 (five years ago)

I forgot to vote for this but tbf my tracks ballot was completely slapdash. Definitely voted for the album.

Inside there's a box and that box has another box within (Sund4r), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:40 (five years ago)

Oh yay, first vote of mine to place! I didn't actually get round to the album (sorry op, sorry) but when the video for this dropped it totally blew me away.

emil.y, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:40 (five years ago)

I have a strict no ilxors rule sorry

stylish but illegal (Simon H.), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:41 (five years ago)

An amazing track that spooked the hell out of me during the early lockdown every time I went out walking on mornings.

meticulously crafted, socially responsible, morally upsta (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:41 (five years ago)

album indeed good though

stylish but illegal (Simon H.), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:42 (five years ago)

Also god, some of the lyrics really hit home for me personally (too hard in places)

emil.y, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:42 (five years ago)

i am an absolute dumbass for sleeping on this album. nothing deliberate, just was waiting for the right mood to take me. that said i thought the alternate version of fire-mare, which i heard via the longlist, was amazing!

Specific Ocean Blue (dog latin), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:42 (five years ago)

yes a great tune this, regret not voting for it tbf
i'm not even sure i voted for 25 as well which makes it worse, was in a big rush :(

nxd, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:42 (five years ago)

TOO LOW

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:44 (five years ago)

Love this. I have not listened to the album, stupidly.

Heavy Messages (jed_), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:45 (five years ago)

hooray for "Repeat"!

I guess I'm somewhat out of step with the ILM afrohouse crew (though at least one thing we agree on should place).

rob, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:45 (five years ago)

brb gonna make a house remix of "a bloody morning," i can hear it

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:46 (five years ago)

voted for the album but a great track indeed

ufo, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:46 (five years ago)

I can't stop staring at my enormous pores

flamboyant goon tie included, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:51 (five years ago)

speech! speech! speech!

imago, Tuesday, 26 January 2021 15:51 (five years ago)

Mark me down as an immediate convert to the church of Kelly Lee Owens; why did you bastards let me go without for so long? Anyways, no time like the present for both me and you to delve into KLO’s deeply trippy blend of ambient techno, dreampop and contemporary classical. Issa vibe.
