Norwegian singer-songwriter Dagny fits neatly into the ILM-defined category of "shambhala." Perhaps counterintuitively, that’s not a yoga-branded electrofest but a subgenre of predominantly female-fronted, synth-focused, 80's/90's-era retro-tinged pop. Most shabhala exists on the fringes of the mainstream, less out of any avant-garde airs and more just because of general marketplace devaluation. Dagny has had significant success in the Nordic countries but she’s little known elsewhere; even on ILM, she has yet to merit an artist thread. Perhaps placing in the 77 will change that?

The You'll Melt More! was fine but it was as generic in its niche as Dagny is in hers

I guess this is loosely "shambhala" in the sense that it's got sequencer-led synth parts and she's from a place that's cold, but it sounds like dishwater imo.

all I ask for in my pop music is a TOUCH of specificity in some kind of respect and I can't detect any here

I love love love this track. Sure it could be a Robyn / Carly Rae collab from 5 years ago, but eeeeevery piece is so perfectly placed, the vocals, the melody, the bridge, it's devilishly well-formed pop. Genuinely one of the best of its kind, when I thought that 'kind' had already peaked.

More and more of the stuff started to sound like 10th-gen Robyn knockoffs, like this, a few years ago, which is when I quit making the thread every year. At this point, its continued existence is just reverb in the universe.

I quite like this. Like a lesser CRJ B-Side, which is ofc a compliment.
