i guess that alcachofa is great too but it's so close to his earlier stuff for me but without the heavy kicks... i feel like he needs to eat or something! where is his mother?

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Friday, 20 October 2006 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

my anticipation for "fizheuer zieheuer" has dropped right off reading this thread :( so, there's not much more to it than what's on the end of that awakenings mix?

Moderation Request Line (fandango), Friday, 20 October 2006 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

I want the Fizbeast.

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Friday, 20 October 2006 13:31 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, so the clarinet (taragot?) and singing bit is a completely different track! I kept thinking they were part of Zieheuer, probably because of the similar Balkan feel to the brass parts used.

Jena (JenaP), Friday, 20 October 2006 13:37 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, tell me about it... in September he was using the clarinet sample (or a track based on it) for a full 15 minutes before he dropped Fizheuer. so imagine my disappointment on realising it wasn't the first half!

Ha! You can always trust ILM to go on some he-really-hasn't-been-good-since-1876-joy-killing. In the mean time I'll wait for the cd version.

Omar (Omar), Friday, 20 October 2006 14:22 (nineteen years ago)

i heard it from a little birdie that mdma 12" is going to be reissued on rekids records with some new edits!

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Friday, 20 October 2006 15:19 (nineteen years ago)

My copy has absolutely NO low end...is this intentional?

As far as 40-minute tracks go, I think this week's trophy goes to LCD soundsystem...

jackl (jackl), Friday, 20 October 2006 15:47 (nineteen years ago)

haha - i was about to post the opposite on the LCD thread.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 20 October 2006 16:00 (nineteen years ago)

superlong track FITE!!!

jackl (jackl), Friday, 20 October 2006 16:07 (nineteen years ago)

A: What's Wrong My Friends?
B: Gugga Sempa
C: Africolaps
D: Dummolator

is he fucking kidding? africolaps? dummolator? i half-expect him to leer out of my computer screen, poke me in the eye, and run off, "nyuk, nyuk, nyuk!"

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Friday, 20 October 2006 16:08 (nineteen years ago)

i can't wait for the next ubercoolische installment

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Friday, 20 October 2006 16:09 (nineteen years ago)

after attempting to figure it out, i'm stumped: too many things coming out at once.

fizheuer=teh new album?
what's wrong with my friends= somethin else
MDMA= re-release

is this right?

trees (treesessplode), Friday, 20 October 2006 16:40 (nineteen years ago)

also, that 'he's fallen off' comment makes no sense to me. explain further.

trees (treesessplode), Friday, 20 October 2006 16:43 (nineteen years ago)

fizheuer definitely isn't an album... it's the new single on Playhouse. anyone who comes to this expecting an album (as i suspect many will do) is likely to be disappointed. you don't call M7 or Quadrant Dub an LP...

a (rslvd), Friday, 20 October 2006 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

i think of m7 and quadrant dub as part of two series...

okay trees

i love au harem and would like to remix some of the songs for the dancefloor. alcachofa is also very good, but listening to it i can't not hear echoes of his earlier stuff. i still like achso when it comes on but that is rare. i feel like i'm just echoing a lot of what people have said upthread about wishing he was still making mind-blowing dancefloor bangers like 808 the bassqueen or his frisbee tracks stuff. it's more a matter of expectation than a critical judgment, really, because i don't think his new stuff is bad. it's just not what i'm looking for. still, i know he's got it in him for another of those tunes because his djing is full of heavy bass kicks and loops, although not the detroit synths, i guess. i don't expect him to ever remake lugomix/logohitz :(

mdma / bosch 12" he did as richard wolfsdorf in 1996... like a billion dollars for a copy. but now quiet village guys label is repressing it!

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Friday, 20 October 2006 19:42 (nineteen years ago)

also when i listened to the promo samples of the new perlon release it didn't strike me and all the titles seem very close to self-parody.

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Friday, 20 October 2006 19:43 (nineteen years ago)

but i suppose that promo samples rarely strike me

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Friday, 20 October 2006 19:44 (nineteen years ago)

So I just listened to part 1 of Fizheuer and it still is brrr...goosebumps-inducing good, but it does eventually feel a bit static compared to the "what the fuck is this?" moment in the Awakenings mix (it also sounds slower), when it feels like a brilliant solution to some weird question/quest. Maybe they should add a bonus Villalobos robot to do some cool mixing stuff with it?

Omar (Omar), Friday, 20 October 2006 19:58 (nineteen years ago)

i find the frisbee tracks stuff INCREDIBLY weak compared to alcachofa (which totally works on the dancefloor, just not a 'banging' one)... different folks though.

a (rslvd), Friday, 20 October 2006 20:18 (nineteen years ago)

Having listened to both parts now I'm not sure this justifies a CD release tbh.

Moderation Request Line (fandango), Friday, 20 October 2006 20:23 (nineteen years ago)

it's a DJ tool, although Villalobos/Luciano aside, i doubt many could actually pull it off. 8AM, this comes on = mind blown. released to the general public? surprise goes. effect fades.

a (rslvd), Friday, 20 October 2006 20:29 (nineteen years ago)

i have to clarify that the frisbee tracks i like are que belle epoque 12", salvador 12", and unflug. that other record doesn't do it for me. i guess i have danced to alchachofa tracks but i like em louder and more minimal

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Friday, 20 October 2006 20:30 (nineteen years ago)

minimal in construction, not production

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Friday, 20 October 2006 20:31 (nineteen years ago)

xpost - yeah, it's still a good dj tool!

Moderation Request Line (fandango), Friday, 20 October 2006 21:02 (nineteen years ago)

i think i need to get some of these other tracks. also, the only villalobos i've been listening to recently has been the early stuff i have and his live sets, which i have made tapes of and listen to in the car (seriously do it. nothing compares on a highway).

trees (treesessplode), Friday, 20 October 2006 21:26 (nineteen years ago)

http://soundfiles.neuton.com/?l=Perlon&r=perlon59

still doesn't strike you?
first track is amazing! been taking in the Daze Maxim.
fuck it, they all sound good to me.

a (rslvd), Sunday, 22 October 2006 08:55 (nineteen years ago)

"what's wrong with my friends" is *great*. exactly the kind of meandering vocal tracks he should do more of.

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 29 October 2006 05:24 (nineteen years ago)

it is kind of sick.

trees (treesessplode), Sunday, 29 October 2006 09:19 (nineteen years ago)

(i drove into a ditch the other night (i'm fine, so is the car) while listening to the awakenings festival set at very high volume. stayed in a good mood, even when the sheriff came).

trees (treesessplode), Sunday, 29 October 2006 09:22 (nineteen years ago)

:)

jergins (jergins), Sunday, 29 October 2006 09:45 (nineteen years ago)

uh so the track i was enthusing about upthread is a 15 minute BECK REMIX??? ahaha

a (rslvd), Monday, 30 October 2006 13:05 (nineteen years ago)

waht

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Monday, 30 October 2006 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

i'm listening to his set from the Fabric birthday party (well, the hour or so of it they put up). it's a long remix of the Beck song about a Cell Phone dying. no idea who it's by but it definitely uses a few Ricardo signature sounds. (sounded better at the time!)

a (rslvd), Monday, 30 October 2006 17:43 (nineteen years ago)

but since i was so mashed i couldn't recognise beck's voice that's hardly surprising

a (rslvd), Monday, 30 October 2006 17:46 (nineteen years ago)

i am so pissed that i didn't buy the heike single when i was in teh nyc last week. it didn't strike my immediate purchasing fantasy in halcyon, and now i am listening to it all day. stupid stupid.

trees (treesessplode), Monday, 30 October 2006 18:03 (nineteen years ago)

is that set only available to fabricfirst ppl?

toby (tsg20), Monday, 30 October 2006 20:56 (nineteen years ago)

Can anyone ID the track that goes from ca. 12-18 minutes on file two of the Sunrise, Bucharest-set that's on cocoonstyled? The one with the awesome horn-sample that's being fucked around with? The track-list says MDIII "Pressure Cooker" (remix?) Can anyone confirm this? It's incredible.

Also, I can't belive this thread has gone so many posts without love for The Contempt 12"!

Er1end (E. Hammer), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 12:29 (nineteen years ago)

oh good god is fizheuer perfect to mix with, the way the filter slides over the snare, the delayed percussive parts, the endless repetition, the little clip on the hi hat every 4 bars, the slight movement of the bass. oh god oh god oh god.

mark (kingofnothing), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

um... Pressure Cooker is the track before it. the horn-sample on is the Smith N Hack remix of Herbert.

a (rslvd), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

the contempt is pretty great, especially because it sounds like the voice is saying, "we control content, content" which i love. that and the dub bassline.

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 18:52 (nineteen years ago)

Anybody heard the full version of "what wrong my friends" yet? It's pretty amazing.

Trace Henry (Trace), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 20:07 (nineteen years ago)

Anybody heard the full version of "what wrong my friends" yet?

Yeah, but it doesn't convince me at the moment, too long for its own good (although it somehow starts making sense at the end). But after 'Fizheuer' it sounds a bit Villalobos-on-par.

Omar (Omar), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 09:39 (nineteen years ago)

side A/B of What's Wrong haven't clicked at all for me yet. Omar -- it starts making sense at the end cos he cuts out the jazzy stuff, no? all starts off a bit too Herbert-esque or something... (and not the good parts of Herbert!)
i'm sure i'll grow to love it.

Dummolator though - fuck me.

a (rslvd), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

actually Herbert is wrong. it sounds like that NSI 12" on Cadenza, only... drunk.

a (rslvd), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 13:16 (nineteen years ago)

please spill beans on depeche mode remix release plans here, thanks.

That already sounds drunk.

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 21:28 (nineteen years ago)

the what's wrong 12" sounds better than fizheuer to me. possibly this is just down to crappy mp3s though.

fabric mp3s are on coccoonstyled...

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 22:37 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks, supa, what a great track that Smith N Hack-remix is! It kind of feels like it would mix perfectly into or out of Booka's Yello-remix. Maybe a little too obvious even.

I also like how The Contempt really says "we control content", great stuff. I was also pretty surprised when I found out it's from 1995. It really doesn't sound that old to me.

Er1end (E. Hammer), Thursday, 2 November 2006 15:02 (nineteen years ago)

i haven't been able to get all of 'what's wrong' yet, but i have the title track. and i've been listening to it non-stop. more than fizheuer, which i have heard enough times by this point after obsession with his live sets.
