- "jazzidisciples (zlele)" is the amapiano track that totally deserves to top the 77 and i hope it gets close
- yone-ko's "strip down to e" is the best opening to a workshop release i've ever heard, great ghostly house, the piano is like an eroded layer of paint on a weatherbeaten building
- tiana major9's "same space" and jenevieve's "baby powder were two songs that took my breath away on impact, the former for being a babyface-quality acoustic quiet storm sigh and the latter for feeling like the air in the middle of the summer as you're lifting yourself through the window of a moving car
- more essential r&b, one a nimbus of synths, the other arriving in a time machine from 1997: justine sky "million days", jayla darden "demonstration"
- my favorite rap songs of the year were popp hunna's "adderall (corvette corvette)" (glowing and melodic) and rio da yung og x louie ray "movie" (blown-out and relentless)

lj i have no idea what that track is and i guarantee you i don't have room for it

This is the first year, maybe ever, I didn't max out my tracks ballot. Only did 20 out of 25. Surprised my albums ballot got all the way to 25 tbh.

I had a hard time cutting albums from 50-70 down to 25. Let's just say no album out of South Africa made my list and that's insane given the releases.

Heck, I typically missed voting, so I’m gonna pour one out for Sleaford Mods’ Mork and Mindy and cross my fingers for We Live Here to go all the way
