my favourite moment on the album might be when, after 'exodus' has bounced abstractly hither and thither for three minutes, suddenly BOOM the beat drops for the intense focus of '9xs outta 10'

i'm gonna come clean and say that i think yall are overrating this album

it's pretty amazing sonically but the rapping is kinda boring - a little too many liberties taken by quik i think. like, being funny & goofy and not caring so much about rhyming & flowing can be cool but i think there needs more verses a la "9xs outta 10" where the verses really make you go O_O in a technically skillful sense

man idunno, name a verse you think is boring. the only song i dont basically love is "the appeal"

Raekwon mops the floor with it imo

yeah, 9 times outta 10 is really on some next level shit and it's weird that no other track sounds anything like it. but when i'm listening to the album i can't really be bothered to think about that sorta thing cause it's just such a good time.

yeah i like that raekwon some. thing is the production is wonderful and there are some crazy brilliant verses throughout, but raekwon as a rapper has not aged well imo. not like dude was the most charismatic guy to begin with, but he used to be graceful and sharp nowadays just sounds like he's shlepping himself around. quik and kurupt otoh are still virile as fuck.

I've still not heard the new Raekwon tape but I think the Mos Def comes close. Old rappers > New rappers :(

i think rae has aged well, & i dont get what a hoy hoy is saying -- who is the 'new rapper' here? but rae's record is totally predictable in comparison to this

I wasn't trying to start a crazy debate where you lecture everyone about Gucci. Just the three records I am going to love most this year will presumably be made by Raekwon, DJ Quik, Kurupt and Mos Def.

anywayz man after getting pretty much entirely tired of talking about gucci it feels really great to come back to this LP ... i think one good thing abt feeling like gucci & related rappers are a 'center' around which the rest of the genre rotates is that records like this feel like they are kinda perfectly rated, neither under- nor clipse'd

well it's my local paper and main outlet and Matos is one of the non-local freelancers (although he's written for it much longer). Jess used to be our music editor!

i had Electrik Red and Quik trading places for #1 and #2 on my list for a few months before ER won out with a much higher iTunes play count
