maf you one two (maffew12), Monday, 14 December 2020 21:06 (five years ago)

it has been on Spotify since Friday

yeah, these are great. but just like the "ego" / "mirror" thing from several years back, i'm immediately annoyed at the exclusivity of them — *WHY*??!!?! it's three of the most respected and renowned musicians of the last decade, get it on the fucking radio ffs.

it has been on Spotify (and I’m sure the others too) since Friday

Which, in fairness, was a week after the original, allegedly exclusive, release.

Tsar Bombadil (James Morrison), Monday, 14 December 2020 23:34 (five years ago)

Blame Four Tet, his schtick-y obsession with doing this exclusive vinyl/record store stuff to be seen as cool and underground wears a touch thin in 2020. Great music tho!

ufo, Monday, 21 December 2020 05:57 (five years ago)

🔥🔥🔥
What a Banger!

Sold out already, unfortunately. Hope they'll press more

willem, Monday, 21 December 2020 06:56 (five years ago)

I had a dream last night that Burial got made an MBE. True story.

paolo, Monday, 21 December 2020 10:22 (five years ago)

xxp it looks like the full digital release comes out in February, one half of the release is available now, and the vinyl is scheduled for April

mh, Monday, 21 December 2020 18:03 (five years ago)

two weeks pass...

holy shit, chemz is incredible stuff. i haven't been following burial over the past few years, is this the first time he's gone all-out rave like that?

josh az (2011nostalgia), Friday, 8 January 2021 06:14 (five years ago)

He's definitely had some rave-ier tracks -- Temple Sleeper, Rival Dealer, etc

change display name (Jordan), Friday, 8 January 2021 16:44 (five years ago)

"claustro" from 2019 is the closest predecessor to "chemz"

ufo, Friday, 8 January 2021 19:02 (five years ago)

one month passes...

It’s been almost 10 years since I last heard Untrue and my nostalgia got triggered hard. This does for me what Massive Attack’s Mezzanine does. Albums which I was obsessed about the year they came out and I very rarely come back to, but when I’m in the mood for them they outshine every music ever made.

Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Friday, 30 April 2021 03:26 (five years ago)

wish I was feeling this more but like the last several Burial singles I find it a bit disappointing. "Space Cadet" better than "Dark Gesthsemane" though

Paul Ponzi, Friday, 30 April 2021 11:34 (five years ago)

these are the first Burial tracks I really like again after a long time

StanM, Friday, 30 April 2021 19:30 (five years ago)

"Dark Gesthsemane" is fantastic!

Tim F, Saturday, 8 May 2021 05:25 (five years ago)

agree

corrs unplugged, Tuesday, 11 May 2021 10:42 (five years ago)

dark gesthsemane is so good

nxd, Saturday, 15 May 2021 19:44 (five years ago)

I'm as massive a Burial stan as you will find and I am still not hearing what you all are hearing in these new tracks

Still here for it though, and for whatever's next

Paul Ponzi, Saturday, 15 May 2021 20:16 (five years ago)

Dolphinz > Chemz

Paul Ponzi, Friday, 21 May 2021 10:28 (five years ago)

I don't know what to expect - different art style, new profile pic, sounds like it could be beatless?

going to be 30 mins of just layers of vinyl crackle and alley echoes and nothing else

Paul Ponzi, Wednesday, 15 December 2021 20:03 (four years ago)

twist is it's actually album length despite being called an EP

ufo, Thursday, 16 December 2021 07:52 (four years ago)

Fake(?) leak already out there.

Tsar Bombadil (James Morrison), Thursday, 16 December 2021 08:32 (four years ago)

yeah after listening i did question if it's real because it's quite a shift even from previous ambient burial. but it's not totally out of character or anything or obviously fake, wouldn't really be surprised either way

ufo, Thursday, 16 December 2021 08:37 (four years ago)

someone says it's Asleep Country’s album Next Year’s Snow ?

StanM, Thursday, 16 December 2021 14:20 (four years ago)

no idea, I've not seen the leaked thing - https://nextyearssnow.bandcamp.com/album/100

StanM, Thursday, 16 December 2021 14:22 (four years ago)

I can't believe it's almost 2022 and people are still making fakes

Paul Ponzi, Thursday, 16 December 2021 15:37 (four years ago)

what I found isn't that Asleep Country thing at least but it's quite atrocious - I hope it's real :D

StanM, Thursday, 16 December 2021 15:55 (four years ago)

an announcement and physical sales without even putting out a preview single is pretty rare now

maf you one two (maffew12), Thursday, 16 December 2021 16:04 (four years ago)

real thing is entirely ambient burial

Already enjoying this way more than any of the recent singles

yeah I love this already

Paul Ponzi, Thursday, 6 January 2022 15:58 (four years ago)

I like it. I would almost prefer if it didn't have the voices, which are just a little too BURIAL for me, a bit jarring to start with and then become monotonous after a while.
Haven't listened to that much Burial in recent years but I'm surprised he's still mining this very specific "foster care advert" aesthetic this far into his career, cos as nice as this is, it could be slices from Untrue but with the drums taken out.

Urbandn hope all ye who enter here (dog latin), Thursday, 6 January 2022 17:06 (four years ago)

definitely a sign of the times that this thread isn't at the of of the new answers page. In my day, a new Burial release was an event!

Paul Ponzi, Friday, 7 January 2022 19:33 (four years ago)

Ha. New Burial is just a cozy part of the holiday tradition now.

I like it too...obv it's not very 'memorable' in the way that Untrue is, but I like the Burial vocal chops combined with the Burial ambience. And I think there's more going on in the music than seems immediately apparent.

I don't know how much I'll return to it, but I hope I do.

change display name (Jordan), Friday, 7 January 2022 19:42 (four years ago)

I haven't heard anything since "Untrue," what have I missed?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 7 January 2022 19:49 (four years ago)

Mostly collected here, the first half are the ambient ones, I prefer the bangers like Claustro and Street Halo, and still like Come Down to Us for long-form emo ambient Burial:

his peak was the run of Kindred, Truant/Rough Sleeper and Rival Dealer in 2012-13, with Rival Dealer being his absolute best, check out those first

ufo, Friday, 7 January 2022 23:25 (four years ago)

co-sign that, ufo.

(although i did really like 'claustro' and consider it among that lot of "his absolute best")

please don't refer to me as (Austin), Saturday, 8 January 2022 00:05 (four years ago)

Every time I listen to this guy I press play, promptly forget about it, and realize I’m still listening 15 minutes later

calstars, Saturday, 8 January 2022 00:56 (four years ago)

Really enjoyed this new one. Ran it several times through. As calstars said - you try to listen actively and it takes you away so quickly.

Psychocandy Apple Grey (Pyschocandles), Sunday, 9 January 2022 00:00 (four years ago)

there's some really harsh, unpleasant frequencies on this, and it doesn't do enough otherwise
