People should give the Enslaved another chance. It left me cold the first couple of listens, but eventually hit me the right way. I know they're pretty much nothing like they used to be, but I don't see how someone who loves music could not at least appreciate the craft of it even if it didn't resonate emotionally. I don't even know why I gave a new Enslaved release more listens or why I'm suddenly OK with pop-oriented Enslaved, but I'm glad I did. I might even go back and check out the last ten years of releases I skipped.
Igorrr doesn't get much any love around here, but Spirituality & Distortion kicks ass. If tracks Nervous Waltz or Himalaya Massive Ritual don't do it for you, you can probably confidently say you're not a fan and move on, but if you like and haven't heard 2017's Savage Sinusoid (which I also nommed that year, and I think it received one vote in the poll) which is slightly more chaotic and unfocused but probably slightly better for it.
Darren Korb's "Hades" soundtrack is worth checking out. It's on Spotify and Bandcamp. My young daughter who is ambivalent to most hard rock/metal I play absolutely loves it. The game is outstanding as well.

Didn't know there was new Mesarthim, I'll have to check those out.
Not to campaign on the noms thread, but if you prefer the first few Elder records to the direction they took after Lore, then the Slift album is for you.

That Colour Haze is very technically a 2019 release, but I believe it only came out digitally during the week after(?) Christmas and didn't get any sort of physical distribution until March of this year - but feel free to nix it if that doesn't count.

Bandcamp says October 9, 2020. Good enough for me.

Yeah, that's when the US label (Ripple) finally released it here. Just thought I'd preempt any pedants about the date, ha.

yeah we've never been purists or troo kvltists in the poll. Its not an extreme metal poll only and never has been.

70s metal bands might not seem heavy now, but they are still metal bands by definition.

Does the new Pharaoh Overlord qualify? It's great but it'd be a stretch
― imago, Tuesday, 8 December 2020 13:42 (five years ago)
If you need to ask…
More seriously, their other releases would qualify so perhaps this one does by association because we're just that naïvely magnanimous.
Deep down, though, you know it's true (that it's not a metal and/or heavy rock record).
― pomenitul, Tuesday, 8 December 2020 13:49 (five years ago)

LJ is the last person who should be purist about a metal poll considering what he has nominated and voted for in the past
― Oor Neechy, Tuesday, 8 December 2020 14:05 (five years ago)
I wasn't being a purist; I was considering the purity of a nomination and then nominating it anyway!
Just you wait; I'll nominate Backxwash if I have to lol
