So-called jazz rap is almost never jazzy enough for my ears in that it tends to minimize the improv part of the equation but what I've heard so far of this Boldy James / Sterling Toles collab gives the lie to that assumption. Not worth more than a 7.7 according to p4k tho.

'Inconsistency' seems to be the main gripe.

It’s an incoherent criticism imo. The album has a cohesive unique sound and there are no tracks id really skip (tolerance for guests ymmv). People are just being confronted with something new and don’t know what to make of it

Weirdly it’s divided some of his more fervent fans as well, but I think it’s because he’s moved past the sound of “die lit” which despite having self-styled themselves as a vanguard for they don’t really want him to move past

i think another part of it is that the sound whole lotta red pretty distinct from the sound of carti's leaks, which people fell in love with. there isn't anything on here that has the vibe of "pissy pamper," for example.
