Kylie Minogue: Classic or Dud?

This is a really likeable album. I don't see it sticking and some of the production is a bit Hype Machine Remixes 2008, but she's so endearing and charismatic even when it feels a little bland.

That unexpected tempo change on Dancefloor Darling is one of my favourite musical moments of the year.

This album is nonstop. Such a fantastic return to form.

Love “Magic”, and the Infinite Disco version of “Say something” with the added choir is A+

I don't think it's a great album, certainly not as imaginatively produced as Roisin Murphy, Jessie Ware, and Dua Lipa's, say -- what a year! But I like half of it.

it's good-not-great but still incredibly solid. a lot of little great moments like the "get me to the weekend!" mini bass solo on "monday blues"

I get grouping these four albums together as some mini-zeitgeist, but Kylie's is bringing up the rear by a considerable distance.

The Annie is a different thing imo, and I would've loved it in 2014 more than I do now.

alright, i tried dancefloor and it feels like it's trying way too hard for me.
i don't think i fuck with this at all.

idk if it's weird to talk about the songwriting on a dance-pop record but the real strength on this record for me is the way the melodies move. i get ppl's issues with the production, it's certainly broad, but i think the songs have really interesting and catchy interlocking parts

The Kylie vs Little Mix stuff on Twitter has been really grim on both sides and everyone involved should be embarrassed. Katherine I'm sorry this is happening to you, again, and I know it's easier said than done but you must remember that these people are entirely without merit and their performative hate is fandom theatre

Ware > Dua > Roisin seems about right to me but, based on "Feed the Fire" and "Impact," I think SG Lewis is gonna break into the upper disco circle by the end of the year.

Why isn't anyone mentioning Victoria Monét's Experience -- are her disco tracks too "trad" for this context?

i loved the singles from this. i think brad has a good point about the quality of the melodies. i also think the lyrics on those two singles are perfect magic-eye palimpsests that are either the most profound thing ever or generic claptrap depending on how you look at them. classic pop lyrics. not sure how i will feel about the album - i'm kind of deflated about buying anything right now after losing all my music - but i'm going to tune out all the stan bullshit if i can when i get around to listening to it, next month i guess. *sigh*

xp I loved Moment/Dive/Jaguar/Experience/Touch Me but that EP is like 17 minutes of great music, ten minutes of filler ("we take it fast like it's fortnite"?) and imo not really on the same level as Ware or Lipa

A few groaner lyrics aside, I think the whole EP is really tight -- and if you're looking for new disco in 2020...
