this song exemplifies the difference in sound between StLTU and PJ, this is so much HEAVIER than anything on the debut

and a divining... rod

This is a great line delivery.

I just now realized that "Can Your Pussy..." contains the lyric "gonna do the bird, if I can I can" borrowed from Gregory Dee and the Avanties' "Olds-Mo-William." Worlds within worlds...

First time hearing this one! Love it as both a song and a reference.

That's it for today! Come back tomorrow for the top 20 and get cramped.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 19:14 (five years ago)

Gregory Dee was from Minneapolis. It's actually a much improved cover of Paul Peek.

Three Rings for the Elven Bishop (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 19:16 (five years ago)

Great stuff. Realising I have grossly under-represented Psychedelic Jungle. Psyched to see the top 20.

stirmonster, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 19:22 (five years ago)

Fabulous. Thanks again Moka.

I feared I might have been the only vote for "Kizmiaz"!

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 23:16 (five years ago)

"The Crusher" was one of my desperate, er, strategic omissions. Clearly the best song ever written though so it's cool that others voted sensibly on this front.

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 23:47 (five years ago)

"The Crusher" made it low on my ballot, but ironically has been the biggest earworm since my re-listening binge

I mean basically everything after this (and a lot before) is 100% solid gold awesomeness

howls of non-specificity (sleeve), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 23:52 (five years ago)

(in the countdown, I mean)

howls of non-specificity (sleeve), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 23:52 (five years ago)

Yes! Listening in playlist form I'm virtually always thinking "yep, cool, could have voted for that". Other things I did actually vote for in this stretch include "The Mad Daddy", "Naked Girl Falling Down the Stairs", "Journey to the Center of a Girl" and "Beautiful Gardens". I assumed "Drug Train" would be a bit higher. That was another late cut for me.

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Thursday, 29 October 2020 01:46 (five years ago)

This poll had me reevaluating albums like Stay Sick! and Flamejob. It’s been years since I play anything off them and they sound much better than I remember them.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 29 October 2020 03:09 (five years ago)

I got into cramps via bad music, and backfilled and listened a lot up to stay sick, but i have not had a listening binge in my dotage. Many many many years. Thx moka, this has been wonderful.

I still like what theyre doing, and love the songs, but it’s lux’s ecstatic exuberance that is ever more present to me now. He practically crawls right out the speakers.

That take sounds pretty “well, DUH!” Maybe i’d just forgot.

pence's eye juice (Hunt3r), Thursday, 29 October 2020 06:30 (five years ago)

I got to interview Lux when Flamejob came out and he said that Naked Girl Falling Down the Stairs was about Marcel Duchamp's Nude Descending a Staircase, which turned into a conversation about art, and how he and Ivy actually owned an original Duchamp and were actually fairly accomplished art collectors.

BrianB, Thursday, 29 October 2020 12:39 (five years ago)

peeking into the thread to say "holy crap moka." you always bring amazing artwork but you've outdone yourself this time.

glengarry gary beers (voodoo chili), Thursday, 29 October 2020 14:34 (five years ago)

Hahaha thank you! These were fun to arrange. Tbh The Cramps have a very marked aesthetic and most of their songs have specific references so I didn’t have to overthink these.

Oh man, waaaaaay too low at # 19. One of my absolute favorite Cramps songs.

Three Rings for the Elven Bishop (Dan Peterson), Thursday, 29 October 2020 15:53 (five years ago)

Grrreat pooollll

I had forgotten how much I like A Date With Elvis. That crisp airy sound juxtaposed with pretty much anything earlier is faintly jarring in a playlist. But I got out ye olde CD for highway listening last week and was overcome with "I'm not sure there are many tracks here I *don't* want to vote for" type thoughts.

A Date With Elvis was my entry into The Cramps' interior as a 15 year old. Love it front to back, so many lyrical and musical hooks that I find myself spontaneously singing or humming to this day. I've loved almost everything else I heard/bought over the years but to me that's their pinnacle

willem, Thursday, 29 October 2020 15:54 (five years ago)

Happy that Let's get Fucked up made it. Probably the most recent one of their tracks I voted for.

Smell Of Female was my entry into The Cramps' interior also as a 15 year old!

stirmonster, Thursday, 29 October 2020 15:58 (five years ago)

Let's Get Fucked Up live in Norway. This must be one of the last Cramps performances. Lux still on fire!

oops. sorry, that didn't post. i won't try to post that again in case i mess up this otherwise lovely thread.

stirmonster, Thursday, 29 October 2020 16:02 (five years ago)

I love that Norway show, been watching clips of it for this poll. Lux still sounds great and I have to say he aged surprisingly well. By my calculations he was in his early 60s in that concert.
