I'll stand behind that. Relationship of Command, Burn Piano Island, and now Lament. He has a lot of credits under his belt that I don't care for but its undeniable that he had a major role in some of my absolute favorite albums ever made.

brad you were not lying about the Black Foxxes album! what a huge step up for them.

Is it out? I'll happily listen to Badlands on repeat for 50m if not
― imago, Thursday, 29 October 2020 19:25 (three years ago) link
Oh I have to wait 4 hours, grr
― imago, Thursday, 29 October 2020 19:36 (three years ago) link
Yeah, this is great, even if Badlands towers above all
― imago, Friday, 30 October 2020 11:19 (three years ago) link
weirdly I'm only not totally sold on the epic closer? otherwise this is definitely scratching the neo-90s-altrock itch that Wolf Alice does for me

inner space rock
― imago, Sunday, 1 November 2020 05:56 (three years ago) link
it is a bit Radiohead for me to completely love it but I can see why Brad likes Panic so much, haha. And that last minute is an almighty payoff
the first four tracks are my favourite stretch because I'm an instant gratification junkie lol
― imago, Sunday, 1 November 2020 15:22 (three years ago) link
but that was the case with the Foxing album as well and I ended up loving all of it
― imago, Sunday, 1 November 2020 15:23 (three years ago) link
the fox bands need to do an album together
I also really like the closing track but my favourite bit of it is the songy opening stretch
― imago, Sunday, 1 November 2020 15:46 (three years ago) link
update: I have now listened to Black Foxxes a frankly embarrassing number of times

Is there not a way to get a physical version of that Black Foxxes record in the US? Even when I go to their website and click on the literal pictures of the LP or CD versions in their shop, it kicks me to a link that only takes me to streaming/digital ways to get it.

it appears we have not talked about this band in this thread:
https://clearbody.bandcamp.com/album/one-more-day-2
album out Friday, good chunky rumbling, slightly dreamy punk/emo with vocals that remind me of other (older) bands but i can't quite place ... especially the use of looooooong, held out notes/syllables. i feel like there's a really close 80s/90s analog, but i'm having trouble figuring it out.

a very fun and economical pop-punk/emo album from this year I had missed: Teenage Halloween's s/t

Also no mention itt of this catchy punky poppy record that is seriously growing on me 9 months after its release:
https://hotmulligan.bandcamp.com/album/youll-be-fine
Also ... did I miss the 2021 thread?
― alpine static, Tuesday, 5 January 2021 22:58 (three years ago) link
Not sure of the protocol with the jump to the new thread, but finally got around to the Black Foxxes record. This is terrific. I haven't kept up with everything itt, but this and the new Ratboys records were huge discoveries for me this year thanks to you folks.
― soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 12 January 2021 20:52 (three years ago) link
the protocol is to wait for brad to do it lol

Haha I just meant whether to continue talk about 2020 releases in the old thread.

i think when all is said and done i've decided the Ratboys record is the best emo thread record of 2020

the last thing i heard was they're still workin' on it
anyway have yet to be hyped for an emo record this year, if anyone has any recs i'll start a new thread
yeah idk anything except that some reliable faves will reappear, including
Spent yesterday back at @sunsetsound tracking some more news songs with @JoyceManor. Those dudes wrote some great news songs and I’m honored to have been asked to play on them. No clue when you’ll be able to hear them. Also, sorry this isn’t a dog picture. pic.twitter.com/JVKueXlnHl— Tony Thaxton (@tonythaxton) January 22, 2021

Does Portrayal of Guilt count? Their tracks from the upcoming album are excellent. I guess they are more screamo than emo, but I wouldn't dare to post this in the metal thread.

I think this is the first album I've heard in 2021 that would push me to start the 2021 thread, if that were my responsibility:
https://maxshh.bandcamp.com/album/feedback-pb
It's weird! There are definitely emo-thread elements here, but it's weird. And I love it.

thats funny. i feel like caracara, closer and bartees strange are probably the 3 best things I ever discovered because of rolling emo

I'm enjoying a couple of these tracks, though I am wondering if this might be a "small doses" kind of thing:
https://teenagewrist.bandcamp.com/album/earth-is-a-black-hole
This band definitely sounds like some big 2000s(ish) mainstream(ish) rock band that I do not know, but someone here will immediately.
