today i think "headless" is the best song. so much of this record sounds like their entire discography enfolded into single songs, and this one kinda migrates from the s/t to saturday night wrist in the verse/chorus and then slips backward into an odd time signature like all of my favorite stuff on diamond eyes

I see Chino is still croaking into every first word whenever he sings a clean part. That pained vocal fry thing is far too grating for me to deal with even if the guitar tones and the yelling sound as good as ever

From the vulture interview this year:

But it’s also about being frustrated with the times and how everybody, not to be so literal, because it’s not political or whatever — but it’s like everybody’s right. Everybody has an opinion. Everybody’s barking at each other through the fence, and it drives me fucking mad. I don’t want to have to pick a side. I want balance. I want to be able to make a decision that doesn’t have to go along with any one side of any argument. You know what I mean? That song actually also speaks to that, I guess, whatever. i will say i found the clams casino remix underwhelming and the dj shadow mix whelming but everything else here is various kind of successful i think

clams casino worked for me as a low key intro

I know there's not a lot of competition for rock remix records but this is already one of the best a few songs in

so far the approach seems to be "keep the vibe, change the sonics"

for a couple of the acts this is close to the best thing they've ever released lol
