today i think "headless" is the best song. so much of this record sounds like their entire discography enfolded into single songs, and this one kinda migrates from the s/t to saturday night wrist in the verse/chorus and then slips backward into an odd time signature like all of my favorite stuff on diamond eyes

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 29 September 2020 15:57 (five years ago)

one month passes...

I see Chino is still croaking into every first word whenever he sings a clean part. That pained vocal fry thing is far too grating for me to deal with even if the guitar tones and the yelling sound as good as ever

"the spell of mathematics" is my favorite song

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 5 November 2020 21:09 (five years ago)

So, Stephen Carpenter hits the 21st century idiot trifecta: he's a COVID truther, an anti-vaxxer and a motherfucking flat-earther.

but also fuck you (unperson), Thursday, 12 November 2020 20:28 (five years ago)

Ha, literally just about to post that.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 12 November 2020 20:28 (five years ago)

sigh

double sigh

that really sucks, ohms was such a triumph too

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 12 November 2020 20:54 (five years ago)

His "justification" for why he thinks the earth is flat is just... good fucking god.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 12 November 2020 20:58 (five years ago)

choosing to ignore all these posts ... just gonna go listen to Ohms again.

Spottie, Thursday, 12 November 2020 21:06 (five years ago)

ugh

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 12 November 2020 21:56 (five years ago)

is there a rule that every major metal band needs at least one complete dumbass in it

it bangs for thee (Simon H.), Thursday, 12 November 2020 22:09 (five years ago)

I think you're lucky for most bands if it's just the one

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Thursday, 12 November 2020 22:09 (five years ago)

certainly seem to have their fair share and then some

chino don't let me down

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 12 November 2020 22:11 (five years ago)

Shinoda remix of "Passenger" not much cop imo

it bangs for thee (Simon H.), Friday, 13 November 2020 13:01 (five years ago)

I thought this thread got bumped so we could further discuss how awesome Ohms is. We can still do that, of course, but… ugh.

pomenitul, Friday, 13 November 2020 13:07 (five years ago)

xxp.there was a response chino had during an interview for this album where he danced around the “both sides” issue that had me wary of his views.

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Friday, 13 November 2020 13:53 (five years ago)

From the vulture interview this year:

No matter who you are or what you do, I think most people deal with that dichotomy in life, having days of feeling like you’re your better self than others. I’m a work-in-progress. But yes, the song is acknowledging that. But it’s also about being frustrated with the times and how everybody, not to be so literal, because it’s not political or whatever — but it’s like everybody’s right. Everybody has an opinion. Everybody’s barking at each other through the fence, and it drives me fucking mad. I don’t want to have to pick a side. I want balance. I want to be able to make a decision that doesn’t have to go along with any one side of any argument. You know what I mean? That song actually also speaks to that, I guess, whatever. Everything is so polarized.

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Friday, 13 November 2020 13:56 (five years ago)

more like daftones amirite?

kites aren't fun (NickB), Friday, 13 November 2020 13:58 (five years ago)

he should stick to singing about sadomasochism imho

it bangs for thee (Simon H.), Friday, 13 November 2020 14:52 (five years ago)

conversely, “ohms” is explicitly about climate collapse

i do not think chino is infected with brain worms, obv this post may age poorly

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 13 November 2020 14:55 (five years ago)

anti-vaxxer shit is for some reason extremely seductive, i know a few people who should know better who parrot that shit and it’s hard to peel them away from it

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 13 November 2020 14:56 (five years ago)

stef’s “i’ve never gotten sick so illness must come from the mind” line is v familiar to me too lol

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 13 November 2020 14:59 (five years ago)

i think the shinoda remix rocks btw simon, he turned it into a sayonara wild hearts song (arguably this is also what purity ring did to "knife prty")

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 13 November 2020 16:53 (five years ago)

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 3 December 2020 15:00 (five years ago)

I was hoping for a full on Smith vocal but this is a nice enough tweak

it bangs for thee (Simon H.), Thursday, 3 December 2020 15:47 (five years ago)

yeah this rules

it bangs for thee (Simon H.), Wednesday, 9 December 2020 14:28 (five years ago)

makes sense to me, i always imagined her vox as a reference chino in that track

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Wednesday, 9 December 2020 18:10 (five years ago)

lmao the blanck mass remix of "elite" is fucking perfect

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 10 December 2020 17:25 (five years ago)

lmao the squarepusher remix kinda goes!!!

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 10 December 2020 22:04 (five years ago)

i will say i found the clams casino remix underwhelming and the dj shadow mix whelming but everything else here is various kind of successful i think

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 10 December 2020 22:07 (five years ago)

clams casino worked for me as a low key intro

I know there's not a lot of competition for rock remix records but this is already one of the best a few songs in

it bangs for thee (Simon H.), Thursday, 10 December 2020 22:16 (five years ago)

so far the approach seems to be "keep the vibe, change the sonics"

it bangs for thee (Simon H.), Thursday, 10 December 2020 22:17 (five years ago)

for a couple of the acts this is close to the best thing they've ever released lol

it bangs for thee (Simon H.), Thursday, 10 December 2020 22:19 (five years ago)

phantogram brought their A game goddamn!

it bangs for thee (Simon H.), Thursday, 10 December 2020 22:30 (five years ago)

this really must have been genuinely mastered like an album and not just as a discrete set of remixes

it bangs for thee (Simon H.), Thursday, 10 December 2020 22:51 (five years ago)

squarepusher fucking killed it! too many cooks ass remix

it bangs for thee (Simon H.), Thursday, 10 December 2020 22:59 (five years ago)

I love how predictably OTT the Squarepusher remix is.
