get a mop and a bucket for this Well Argued Prose (Simon H.), Thursday, 24 September 2020 21:35 (five years ago)

let me tell you: it’s great

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 24 September 2020 21:38 (five years ago)

it's wild that this is this good but still might not even end up in my top 5 deftones albums

get a mop and a bucket for this Well Argued Prose (Simon H.), Thursday, 24 September 2020 23:31 (five years ago)

i think it's shot up into my top three already but who can say

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 25 September 2020 00:01 (five years ago)

it's certainly the best-sounding deftones record since the s/t

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 25 September 2020 00:04 (five years ago)

Terry Date undefeated, for sure

Really loving this on first listen.

but also fuck you (unperson), Friday, 25 September 2020 12:50 (five years ago)

I can't shake the feeling that someone lopped off the actual opening track, but otherwise the sequencing is great. "Ohms" is a splendid closer.

get a mop and a bucket for this Well Argued Prose (Simon H.), Friday, 25 September 2020 13:57 (five years ago)

really enjoing it.
'pompeji' is an immeditate highlight.
and am I the only one who thinks of... no doubt while listening to 'headless'?

Nourry, Friday, 25 September 2020 14:21 (five years ago)

occurred to me this is the most well-integrated the different sides of their sound have ever been. there's never a moment where the riffs clear out for something purely meditative and gorgeous like "sextape," "entombed" etc. it's just crushing and beautiful in countervailing waves, all the time. think they had a real breakthrough here

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 25 September 2020 19:47 (five years ago)

"urantia" is the best

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 25 September 2020 19:48 (five years ago)

i forget about the synth fantasia at the end of "pompeji" every time and it's always like i tripped into a black hole

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 25 September 2020 20:05 (five years ago)

“Pompeji” into “This Link is Dead” is great.

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Friday, 25 September 2020 20:06 (five years ago)

This is such a great album, I've ended up listening to it all day. One thing that stands out is that a lot of the vocal melodies (e.g. 'Urantia') seem atypically bright and hooky for them.

Gavin, Leeds, Friday, 25 September 2020 21:44 (five years ago)

the core, the heart music... deftones ohms

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Saturday, 26 September 2020 14:58 (five years ago)

This is pretty good, but I think I prefer the new Hum.

sock solipsist (pomenitul), Saturday, 26 September 2020 15:05 (five years ago)

you'd prefer an astronaut

LaRusso Auto (Neanderthal), Saturday, 26 September 2020 15:36 (five years ago)

Never mind, a second spin and it's the other way around now.

pomenitul, Saturday, 26 September 2020 16:45 (five years ago)

it's a grower not a shower

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Saturday, 26 September 2020 17:37 (five years ago)

feels weird to say it but “genesis” is their best opener

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Sunday, 27 September 2020 15:20 (five years ago)

my honeymoon period with this one is giving me the exact feeling koi no yokan did at the time: they put out another masterpiece

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 29 September 2020 15:48 (five years ago)

today i think "headless" is the best song. so much of this record sounds like their entire discography enfolded into single songs, and this one kinda migrates from the s/t to saturday night wrist in the verse/chorus and then slips backward into an odd time signature like all of my favorite stuff on diamond eyes

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Tuesday, 29 September 2020 15:57 (five years ago)

one month passes...

I see Chino is still croaking into every first word whenever he sings a clean part. That pained vocal fry thing is far too grating for me to deal with even if the guitar tones and the yelling sound as good as ever

So, Stephen Carpenter hits the 21st century idiot trifecta: he's a COVID truther, an anti-vaxxer and a motherfucking flat-earther.

but also fuck you (unperson), Thursday, 12 November 2020 20:28 (five years ago)

Ha, literally just about to post that.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 12 November 2020 20:28 (five years ago)

that really sucks, ohms was such a triumph too

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 12 November 2020 20:54 (five years ago)

His "justification" for why he thinks the earth is flat is just... good fucking god.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 12 November 2020 20:58 (five years ago)

choosing to ignore all these posts ... just gonna go listen to Ohms again.

Spottie, Thursday, 12 November 2020 21:06 (five years ago)

ugh

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 12 November 2020 21:56 (five years ago)

is there a rule that every major metal band needs at least one complete dumbass in it

it bangs for thee (Simon H.), Thursday, 12 November 2020 22:09 (five years ago)

I think you're lucky for most bands if it's just the one

Lover of Nixon (or LON for short) (Neanderthal), Thursday, 12 November 2020 22:09 (five years ago)

certainly seem to have their fair share and then some

chino don't let me down

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 12 November 2020 22:11 (five years ago)

Shinoda remix of "Passenger" not much cop imo

it bangs for thee (Simon H.), Friday, 13 November 2020 13:01 (five years ago)

I thought this thread got bumped so we could further discuss how awesome Ohms is. We can still do that, of course, but… ugh.

pomenitul, Friday, 13 November 2020 13:07 (five years ago)

xxp.there was a response chino had during an interview for this album where he danced around the “both sides” issue that had me wary of his views.

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Friday, 13 November 2020 13:53 (five years ago)

From the vulture interview this year:

No matter who you are or what you do, I think most people deal with that dichotomy in life, having days of feeling like you’re your better self than others. I’m a work-in-progress. But yes, the song is acknowledging that. But it’s also about being frustrated with the times and how everybody, not to be so literal, because it’s not political or whatever — but it’s like everybody’s right. Everybody has an opinion. Everybody’s barking at each other through the fence, and it drives me fucking mad. I don’t want to have to pick a side. I want balance. I want to be able to make a decision that doesn’t have to go along with any one side of any argument. You know what I mean? That song actually also speaks to that, I guess, whatever. Everything is so polarized.

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Friday, 13 November 2020 13:56 (five years ago)

more like daftones amirite?
