Hold my beer

Lyrics from the new Ian Brown single

“A sonic lockdown in your home town / A sonic lockdown, can you feel me now? / A sonic lockdown, state shakedown, a mass breakdown / Put your muzzle on, get back in your basket / Get behind your doors cos living here is drastic.”

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Friday, 18 September 2020 14:44 (five years ago)

Oh wait, already mentioned nvm

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Friday, 18 September 2020 14:44 (five years ago)

Holy fuck at that Ian Brown song.

Even ignoring the hilariously awful lyrics, it's atrocious on every level.

groovypanda, Friday, 18 September 2020 21:24 (five years ago)

I'm afraid to ask, but -- what does "sonic" lockdown mean?

Scam Likely (morrisp), Friday, 18 September 2020 21:37 (five years ago)

Just listened to that Ian Brown song and it's definitely "masonic lockdown" imo which is straight-up David Icke conspiracy nonsense. Fucking cretin.

Ian Brown was trotting out gay mafia-type conspiracy theories 20 years ago, he's got form for this sort of thing.

Matt DC, Sunday, 20 September 2020 10:16 (five years ago)

Sorry to bring politics into ILM

LOL

List seems pretty multi-generational to me, tho I don't think I've seen any new/relevant artists take this stance yet.

I do wonder why this is. Could it be that the RJDs, Noels, and Vans have far less to lose at this stage of their careers? Tough to imagine a younger, up and coming artist potentially committing career suicide by expressing these opinions (though maybe Kaityln Aurelia Smith fits the bill? I don't know, haven't seen the evidence she is a Covidiot))

my acceptance of them is based on my own heuristics for determining truth and value, so at that point I don't feel it's acquiescence to a top-down dictum at all but rather personal responsibility.

this is pretty much my position and the objectively sanest approach imo

Angel Olsen shared a link to Plandemic on her instagram stories

Woof this Ian Brown song is really embarrassing, even without the lyrics

It is one of the great fallacies of our time to expect people who have good political views to have good views in other domains (or for that matter to be good people in their personal lives)

I'd be really surprised if someone was pro-BLM, etc. And then turned out to have anti-mask/vaccine opinions

Have we had a thread where we come up with conspiracy theories that are at once wildly fanastical but could hold just enough sway over people that they might believe them?

The pandemic is a political issue, shouldn't be but it's the world we live in.

Daniel_Rf, Monday, 21 September 2020 13:33 (five years ago)

anvil, everything's political an' all, but I do think that if this had exploded a few decades ago it wouldn't have been weaponized for culture war purposes to the same degree to the extent it has

Daniel_Rf, Monday, 21 September 2020 15:18 (five years ago)

No, but there'd still be debates about what the right thing to do would be, even without culture war weaponization

anvil, Monday, 21 September 2020 15:39 (five years ago)

If this had happened a few decades ago, when remote work & distance learning would not have been possible to nearly the extent they are now, my guess is that the degree of economic & social disruption (and probably # of deaths) would have been greater, and the public debate would may have been even more intense in certain ways.

this didn't end well in Foucault's Pendulum iirc, and in the social media age could easily lead to us accidentally creating the next Q. no thanks.

I'd be really surprised if there weren't plenty of people who fit this description.

There literally are!

The Jill Stein libs for one

LaRusso Auto (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 22 September 2020 03:19 (five years ago)

A former colleague of mine fits that description, partially because he's a conspiracy nut in general. It's been sad watching him spiral into COVID-19 related paranoia, culminating in an outburst against Facebook and YouTube for "choosing what I can believe" when they took down the debunked conspiracy videos he wanted to share. Very. Very. Sad.

Sure, but that's different from the "corona? lol!" attitude most of the artists discussed here are taking.
