Cameron - do I have a chance of seeing any of this goodness if I'm not 21? How strict is the policy?

lucas pine, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 06:26 (nineteen years ago)

impudent harlot, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 06:53 (nineteen years ago)

did anyone get that iconcertcal plugin for iTunes? Its free and cross-platform, and it analyzes your music library to create a calendar of upcoming shows in the area for you. no shit. it didn't find that gun club party for me, though. apparently the marshall tucker band is playing 3 separate dates in the bay area in the near future...where is mcnears mystic theater?

viborg, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 07:18 (nineteen years ago)

going to see the Zombies in Healdsburg - 3/14. i wonder what that will be like. i've never been to healdsburg, or 've seen old band play old material. intrigued. excited for M Mayer at Mezzanine.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 16:24 (nineteen years ago)

as I was tellin Shasta, I am considering a trip to SF 5/31-6/4, ruffly. Don't let me end up by myself at the Arcade Fire show in Berkeley ($31, I dunno how likely that is).

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 21:04 (nineteen years ago)

haha Morbs I just talked one of my queer friends out of going to that - sorry!

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 21:07 (nineteen years ago)

i will be in miami/west palm beach morbsies. T_T

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 01:09 (nineteen years ago)

Shakey you bastard, at least tell me he's not cute!

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

"Cameron - do I have a chance of seeing any of this goodness if I'm not 21? How strict is the policy?

lucas pine on Monday, March 5, 2007 10:26 PM (Yesterday)"

---> it's pretty strict. i mean, there's no way to stop someone from using a fake id, but there's nothing i can do to get people in under 21. :[

Cameron Octigan, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 22:17 (nineteen years ago)

Greek Theatre, July 27, 2007 ...

DAFT PUNK.

Cameron Octigan, Thursday, 8 March 2007 21:45 (nineteen years ago)

Hey Cameron, I saw that you're opening for LCD Soundsystem in April. Nice!

Thanks for giving us the heads up on Michael Mayer/Gui Boratto. Now if you could only hand Luciano and Ricardo a few bundles of the same cash money...

Along similar lines, Dinky is playing the Rx at the end of the month. The 2am end seems a bit early though...

Goethe*s Elective Affinities, Friday, 9 March 2007 08:18 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, and Kid606, Filastine and Rupture on the same bill Saturday night does look quite tasty.

also ...

if anyone wants to get into the Audion, Boys Noize, Para One, Freeform Five show ... let me know. [email protected], or [email protected]

those 1s are i's by the way ...

Cameron Octigan, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 03:02 (nineteen years ago)

that's such a strange lineup, esp considering that ed banger tour is the following saturday.
also, is SF totally gaga for electroclash-whatever and nu-rave? presets, crystal castles, ed banger, para one, boyz noise, datarock. just a coincidence? btw this is genuine curiosity, not a gripe. even though it's not really my bag.

pshrbrn, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 07:10 (nineteen years ago)

lo fi funk killed it. absolutely slayed everything in sight. amazed.

DJ CamO: I took off my overcoat...o

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 09:41 (nineteen years ago)

someone told me I shd go see that Arcade Fire gig at the Berkeley Greek Theatre just to see a show there. Feel free to talk me out of it.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 15:48 (nineteen years ago)

I've never been so I can't say, but if you like Arcade Fire you should go!

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 15:53 (nineteen years ago)

well, the Twins are in Oakland that weekend too, so of course if I go to Arcade Fire, Santana will pitch that night!

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 15:55 (nineteen years ago)

I hope we miss Johan entirely, frankly.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 15:57 (nineteen years ago)

I will watch johan with all these ilx0rz.

jaxon: after you left, F&M played probably their best song.

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

that's alright, i was at home having nyquil kaleidescope dreams

jaxon, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 18:01 (nineteen years ago)

Philip,

You can guess which cheesy DJs here are pushing neu-nu-new rave, or whatever. As for the majority of us? Not really. I'm definitely not a fan, but it's been nice to have all these shows. I mean, at least my dislike is a well-informed decision at this point. Or whatever.

Personally, I would like more techno shows, but ... it's the States.

Cameron Octigan, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 20:17 (nineteen years ago)

http://www.sfsound.org/series/

2007 sf sound series starts this monday. xenakis, wadada leo smith, galina ustvolskaya, matthew goodheart, improvs. bizarre they've lowered the door from $12 to $5, they must have lined up a grant.

Milton Parker, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 20:25 (nineteen years ago)

Milton, sweet. That sounds rad!

Cameron Octigan, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 20:39 (nineteen years ago)

"someone told me I shd go see that Arcade Fire gig at the Berkeley Greek Theatre just to see a show there. Feel free to talk me out of it."

i like arcade fire. i like the Greek in Berkeley. but damn ticketmaster and their eff-you service charges talked me out of it.

outdoor_miner, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 20:41 (nineteen years ago)

(yeah you're not talking to me but) That's not the way to look at it! Aren't we talking about a club with a typical rock stage, lighting & sound and a $20 entry fee? Those are hardly conditions for techno clubbing to bloom and endure anywhere. Mezzanine has unrealized potential, but since people in the city will shell those 20 bucks and fill the place I suppose the bosses see no reason to change anything.

Not to speak of the absurdity of security knocking drinks out of your hands after 2am -agreed that's a statewide prob. Asking you to say waht drugs you think people are taking there, here on the interweb would be suicidal -but others could and I'm kinda curious now.

blunt, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 20:42 (nineteen years ago)

that was an x-x-x-x-xpost to Cameron

blunt, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 20:42 (nineteen years ago)

blunt ... who asked you what drugs you were taking? i've never, never heard of that. really weird.

also ... i don't particularly want more techno at Mezzanine. i mean, i work there. it's nice to get the fuck out and go somewhere else! haha. i'd rather see more techno at different venues.

wish i could help out with the entrance, but that's how it goes. and ... most shows are $10-15. fairly standard. even places like Rickshaw are $10, and i think Mezzanine is much better than that place!

Cameron Octigan, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 20:47 (nineteen years ago)

Blech I don't.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 20:52 (nineteen years ago)

as far as:
Audion
Boys Noize
Para One
Freeform Five (dj set)

if anyone wants to get in for free, holler at me.

Cameron Octigan, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 20:52 (nineteen years ago)

I would like to know what people are taking in sf clubs such as Mezzanine, not what drugs you are taking Cameron! And like I said I wouldn't want to hear it from you here online either.

blunt, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 20:58 (nineteen years ago)

I re-read you and it looks like a double misunderstanding. I must have phrased the drugs thing really badly, or you didn't parse it right. Nobody asked me if I took drugs there or what they were..

blunt, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 21:02 (nineteen years ago)

oh, i didn't think you were asking me which drugs i am taking. i thought you were saying one of the security dudes asked you. i was like ... whoa. crazy. but now i understand.

i'd assume people are taking the same drugs as everywhere else.

Cameron Octigan, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 21:02 (nineteen years ago)

At the last Kontrol party, my friend (who was clearly rolling) was asked what appeared to be an undercover dude asking people where he could buy E... But that's quite different to security dudes asking you.

Yes, I assume people here take the same drugs as people do in other places.

Goethe*s Elective Affinities, Thursday, 15 March 2007 00:51 (nineteen years ago)

Anyone planning on seeing OOIOO at the Independent towards the end of March? I'm not even that familiar with them, but I bet they'd be fun live, and having never seen the Boredoms I'm especially eager.

KUSF presents
OOIOO
Neung Phak
Doors 7:30 PM | Show 8 PM
Tickets $13 adv | $15 door

Dare, Thursday, 15 March 2007 18:08 (nineteen years ago)

if steve shasta ever buys my tix, i'll be at that ooioo show.

clipse last night was just, uh.... well leading up to it at least. i fucking hate hip hop shows and all their hundreds of opening acts that no one cares about with their hundreds of people onstage yelling into the mic and smoking joints thinking they're so rebelious. and the fucking streetwear phenomenon is just out of control. when clipse finally came on, they were actually pretty good despite the fact that i'm terribly sick and had a migraine. the wife and friend seemed to be having a really good time.

jaxon, Thursday, 15 March 2007 19:39 (nineteen years ago)

OOIOO

definitely going to this. i've been pretty excited for a while. and yes ... never seen Boredoms either, so it has to suffice!

Cameron Octigan, Thursday, 15 March 2007 19:41 (nineteen years ago)

oh, and screw clipse for thinking they were in Seattle twice

jaxon, Thursday, 15 March 2007 19:41 (nineteen years ago)

I can't take hip hop shows anymore, for precisely those reasons

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 15 March 2007 19:46 (nineteen years ago)

Acts thinking they are Seattle twice?

Alex in SF, Thursday, 15 March 2007 19:48 (nineteen years ago)

if anyone's interested, Cameron does a weekly happyhour at mint lounge (not the karaoke bar) and i'll be bringing some records along tonight. i have absolutely no idea how to dj, but i have nice records.

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h131/jcoctigan/solidgold1.jpg

jaxon, Thursday, 15 March 2007 19:51 (nineteen years ago)

Acts thinking they are Seattle twice?

haha no (goddamn xposts)

I am tempted by Jaxon's rekkid collection...

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 15 March 2007 19:59 (nineteen years ago)

i'm ready to be schooled by the almighty Jaxon. that sounds sarcastic, but i'm totally serious. should be fun. and ... who cares about djing? it's all about free drinks and seeing tha homiez.
