I know it's pointless to speculate but that sure looks like the Oversteps tracklisting to me

Still vinyl copies available to preorder at Boomkat

I have a hard time believing that WARP are going to make this a particularly limited release, I suspect this is temporary unavailable rather than sold out forever

I am using your worlds, Wednesday, 2 September 2020 14:49 (five years ago)

Thanks for the tips, everyone! Got a copy on Boomkat before I saw the new posts, intl shipping and all. Oh well. Worth it!

Paul Ponzi, Wednesday, 2 September 2020 14:52 (five years ago)

ergonomic cher (P. Flick), Wednesday, 2 September 2020 15:10 (five years ago)

> Wonder what the name signifies

what number is this lp anyway, i've lost count. exai (XI) was 11. was elseq 12. nts sessions?

first time i've seen a tshirt in my size in stock and i don't like the design 8(

koogs, Wednesday, 2 September 2020 15:23 (five years ago)

I can't imagine wanting to buy autechre on vinyl tbh

unpaid intern at the darvo institute (Simon H.), Wednesday, 2 September 2020 15:28 (five years ago)

anyway I think it's cute that they have a new EP coming out :)

unpaid intern at the darvo institute (Simon H.), Wednesday, 2 September 2020 15:29 (five years ago)

I thought it was a single?

pomenitul, Wednesday, 2 September 2020 15:47 (five years ago)

I don't like the tshirt design either. weird font

Paul Ponzi, Wednesday, 2 September 2020 15:52 (five years ago)

looks like the AMD Ryzen logo

doorstep jetski (dog latin), Wednesday, 2 September 2020 16:07 (five years ago)

yeah didn't love the shirt. bought it anyway.

neith moon (ledge), Wednesday, 2 September 2020 16:45 (five years ago)

could probably bootleg myself one of the nts aute-chre shirts.

oh, redbubble... they have some nice tri-repetae t-shirts:

There it is. I couldn't quite put my finger on it.

pomenitul, Wednesday, 2 September 2020 17:16 (five years ago)

i'm a weirdo but i would wear that shirt.

i usually shy away from wearing clothes that are a walking advertisement, but in this case, you know

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 2 September 2020 17:25 (five years ago)

Norman Records seems to have a preorder of the vinyl.

As discussed upthread I am anticipating! Got a copy of Untilted a while back, and it is groovy.

eatandoph (Neue Jesse Schule), Wednesday, 2 September 2020 18:33 (five years ago)

I would absolutely wear that crappy bootleg Tri Repetae shirt

lukas, Wednesday, 2 September 2020 18:37 (five years ago)

i love the cover of sign. looking forward to the day in november i'll get to stare at it while super stoned for 15 minutes that are really just 2 minutes.

Give me a Chad Smith-type feel (map), Wednesday, 2 September 2020 18:48 (five years ago)

it looks a lot like Orbital's Wonky

feel like this is their only album cover with like, a real color on it

frogbs, Wednesday, 2 September 2020 19:00 (five years ago)

since amber, maybe

unpaid intern at the darvo institute (Simon H.), Wednesday, 2 September 2020 19:09 (five years ago)

how were these circles that aren't actually circles made

Give me a Chad Smith-type feel (map), Wednesday, 2 September 2020 19:10 (five years ago)

I already can't wait to poll this

Paul Ponzi, Wednesday, 2 September 2020 19:46 (five years ago)

how were these circles that aren't actually circles made
They're from the one-six tour t-shirts, it's a hyper abstraction of lower case ae.

assert (MatthewK), Wednesday, 2 September 2020 22:49 (five years ago)

That's a good spot. But there appears to be a third glyph in there (at least to me) that's not just due to overlap

(also finding it amusing that nobody itt seems curious about how it sounds)

koogs, Thursday, 3 September 2020 04:46 (five years ago)

And whether the new curvier, more colourful art points at a new direction.

Looking again at the cover, it's the two ae shapes twice - they are repeated, smaller, in light orange and white

koogs, Thursday, 3 September 2020 04:51 (five years ago)

Yeah. And god knows how it'll sound. I became addicted to the long slow moving things, I was quite miffed to see the shorter runtime. I wonder if 1h6m was half a nod to the expectation of a 16 hour album after the 1, 2, 4 and 8 hour ones.

assert (MatthewK), Thursday, 3 September 2020 05:57 (five years ago)

i would like to see them gradually hone in on the perfect 2 second song

Karl Malone, Thursday, 3 September 2020 06:04 (five years ago)

imagine you suffer, but so much more

Karl Malone, Thursday, 3 September 2020 06:04 (five years ago)

(also finding it amusing that nobody itt seems curious about how it sounds)

based on the art I'm confident this will be the first release where bloops outnumber bleeps

only thing I've heard since NTS was the Twitch stream (is that still going?) which sounded ... really, really good. so high hopes.

lukas, Thursday, 3 September 2020 16:03 (five years ago)

i think it's going to be more blorpy this time around

Karl Malone, Thursday, 3 September 2020 16:06 (five years ago)

i find it extremely hard to describe how music sounds, and even more so with...whatever music genre autechre fits in

Karl Malone, Thursday, 3 September 2020 16:06 (five years ago)

Autechre is the name of the genre and the music can best be described as Autechre

Monte Scampino (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 3 September 2020 16:12 (five years ago)

Autechre is more squelchy than anything

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Thursday, 3 September 2020 16:15 (five years ago)

xp

otm :)

i am looking forward to the more approachable length of the new one. i do very much support their (seeming) goal of wanting to design the ultimate quasi-generative, ever-changing infinite music machine, and the inevitable consolidation of the known universe into Autechre. Autechre contains multitudes.

but yes, at the same time i do enjoy sitting down with an album and listening from the first bleep to the last blorp

Karl Malone, Thursday, 3 September 2020 16:19 (five years ago)

yeah Autechre albums take a bunch of listens to really wrap your head around anyway, with something like NTS Sessions or even elseq it's less "is the music good" and more "do I even have the time to get into this"

frogbs, Thursday, 3 September 2020 16:22 (five years ago)

What if this is Autechre... having sobered up and going back to basics?! o_O

Monte Scampino (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 3 September 2020 16:23 (five years ago)

this may be sacrilege but I think both those releases could've been edited down to a similar length as Exai and probably would've been better for it

frogbs, Thursday, 3 September 2020 16:23 (five years ago)

Not sure if they'd be better, there is so much on NTS and Elseq I'd not want to lose... But yeah I'm all up for a 'normal length' Autechre album. See how they leave their 'mark' after their long excursions.

Monte Scampino (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 3 September 2020 16:25 (five years ago)

the use of the shape from the one-six sets makes me slightly nervous as they mostly left me cold, aside from a couple of short sections of awesomeness.

neith moon (ledge), Thursday, 3 September 2020 18:31 (five years ago)

> Looking again at the cover, it's the two ae shapes twice - they are repeated, smaller, in light orange and white

which gave me an idea

http://www.koogy.clara.co.uk/signs/

(not quite right, needs a bit more tweaking, speeds and centres and stuff)

koogs, Thursday, 3 September 2020 21:11 (five years ago)

coooooooooooooooool

Give me a Chad Smith-type feel (map), Thursday, 3 September 2020 21:20 (five years ago)

cool!

lukas, Thursday, 3 September 2020 22:12 (five years ago)

They need to make a lenticular special edition cover of that right away

eatandoph (Neue Jesse Schule), Friday, 4 September 2020 02:11 (five years ago)

I didn't mean to watch this whole thing but fuck it, it's sunday

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaJqZXR6444

I like how earnest this guy is and how he grows more effusive and animated as the countdown progresses and he starts talking about his favorite albums

don't agree with the rankings though

Paul Ponzi, Sunday, 6 September 2020 16:27 (five years ago)

He's not the most compelling presenter and I'm just waiting to hear him say "sonic cathedral of sound"; however I might just revisit their entire discography to hear some of the things he picks out, especially in tracks i'm not so keen on.

neith moon (ledge), Monday, 7 September 2020 09:33 (five years ago)

oh no he just said 'chiastic' with a ch not k.

neith moon (ledge), Monday, 7 September 2020 09:36 (five years ago)

try repeat-eye

Leighton Buzzword (dog latin), Monday, 7 September 2020 10:39 (five years ago)

let those who have never mispronounced an autechre title cast the first stone

if anything bugs me about the video its the overuse of certain meaningless adjectives ("shimmering" comes to mind)

Paul Ponzi, Monday, 7 September 2020 11:30 (five years ago)

only caught the first few minutes of the video(too late, tired), but he mentioned both the Melbourne and Dublin sets from 2018, which sound markedly different / more developed and fleshed out, compared to the rest of the 2016 "onesix" material. Those two are definite highlights of the most recent live material, the Melbourne one in particular. There's an unofficial live (audience) recording of a show in Tasmania (on youtube) from around the same time which is v similar to those two official digital releases. The material is more rhythmic and percussive than the bulk of the aerlier "onesix" versions. It's good. Hoping the new album is nothing like the NTS / live material of late.

Lowell N. Behold'n, Monday, 7 September 2020 13:54 (five years ago)

okay, i can't hold it in any longer, but i've heard it now and all i can tell you is that it is indeed quite different to NTS
