they probably fall right down the middle of the demographic that still actively loves myspace

Here's my Attack Attack! preview for Willamette Week back on March 13 2009:

Escape the Fate, Black Tide, William Control, Attack Attack
[JESUS GRIND] Attack Attack has been fucking with my mind since I stumbled across its muted rainbow-hued MySpace page late last year. First off, this is screamo that borders on grindcore (or at least metalcore) that transitions shamelessly into clean vocal choruses drenched in auto-tuned harmonies. Even stranger to these ears are the occasional house beats and vocodered Christian lyrics. Well, Hot Topic is digging the band, and online success story Escape the Fate is taking Attack Attack on the road. I guess it’s time for me to admit that kids born while I was in high school are onto something so new and perverse that I can’t truly comprehend it. NATHAN CARSON. 7 pm. Hawthorne Theatre, 3862 SE Hawthorne Blvd., 233-7100. $15. All ages.

Boggles the mind.

I'm not the world's biggest metal fan by any stretch of the imagination so I'm not really on some "ruining the purity of the genre" bullshit or anything like that but... wtf is this. Who thought this would be a good idea and can we beat them with the guitars they molested to record this abomination?

suddenly, everything was dark and smelly (HI DERE), Monday, 13 July 2009 17:13 (fourteen years ago) link

I think it's a fantastic idea.

I don't want to imagine what kind of buttnuggetry will come the pike in the 30 years that will make this look condonable.

again with british people having to give a fucking genre name for everything

gr80 gaga (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 13 July 2009 20:26 (fourteen years ago) link

"chavcore" is pretty much just early 90s NYHC with british accents. why do you guys have to all try to out-name simon reynolds

gr80 gaga (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 13 July 2009 20:27 (fourteen years ago) link

Prancehall did a Guardian blog ages ago about TRC (short for Teenage Robbing Crew FYI) where he did his weird thing of highlighting something that almost no-one reading would have heard of, just to clown it... I mean they suck but he does seem to do this quite a lot

At War With False Nose (DJ Mencap), Monday, 13 July 2009 20:28 (fourteen years ago) link

xp the ***EXCITING*** difference is it's tuffguy HC with grime vocals - this is a major breakthrough

At War With False Nose (DJ Mencap), Monday, 13 July 2009 20:29 (fourteen years ago) link

they all secretly want to write for the NME?
xpost

(and they're white btw)

At War With False Nose (DJ Mencap), Monday, 13 July 2009 20:30 (fourteen years ago) link

It's not really Teenage Robbin' Crew is it? I read it was The Revolution Continues.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 13 July 2009 20:30 (fourteen years ago) link

Like I can see the dudes who came up with "wonky" or "aquacrunk" or whatever just salivating to themselves, "yes.... this is going to be my 'post-rock'"

gr80 gaga (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 13 July 2009 20:31 (fourteen years ago) link

tho maybe this belongs on a different thread, but i just didnt want the abuse from starting a chavcore thread :)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 13 July 2009 20:31 (fourteen years ago) link

I remember them from I dunno four years back - it's a Knuckledust sideline if that means anything - and it's always been Teenage Robbing Crew to me, which I'm glad of for reasons of comedy. Maybe they changed it :/

At War With False Nose (DJ Mencap), Monday, 13 July 2009 20:34 (fourteen years ago) link

what other chavcore bands are there?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 13 July 2009 20:35 (fourteen years ago) link

haha I was about to say I think they're in a class of one tbh

At War With False Nose (DJ Mencap), Monday, 13 July 2009 20:36 (fourteen years ago) link

That Attack Attack! number is atrocious but I've watched that video with the old farmhouse at least once a day for the last couple of weeks so I guess I must like it on some level. The bit where they go "whooooo" and lift their guitars above their heads is adorable. Ned upthread is on point, they really don't look any more ridiculous than the mc5 did back in the day. I doubt I'd want to listen to the number without the video running as well.

The Confide video is shit, I couldn't stand to watch it all the way through. They are better-looking, or at least a couple of them are, than Attack Attack! is about as much praise as i can think of.

f1f0 (Pashmina), Monday, 13 July 2009 20:36 (fourteen years ago) link

Anything "chav" is so three years ago at this point I would have thought?

f1f0 (Pashmina), Monday, 13 July 2009 20:37 (fourteen years ago) link

Like in the 90s there was quite a lot of NYHC types that decided they could rap and acted on it but that's not rilly the same thing tho I daresay it's an influence
