this album is so so so great. i'm hearing parallels with D'Angelo's Black Messiah in some ways, not just because of the subject matter but in the way it's loose, formless, but also extremely confident, like an expert collage.

damn I just realized my post is the only measure of Keiyaa on ILM. This is in a similar vain as the new Sault but better imo: https://keiyaa.bandcamp.com/

This band tick so many of my boxes that it's shocking I haven't really dived too deep into their three albums. I've decided I need to buy one of them on vinyl. Which should I get?
― doorstep jetski (dog latin), Thursday, 30 July 2020 09:34 (five years ago)
Start with '5' and '7' then also 'Untitled'.
Seriously though, it's all amazing. '7' is my personal fave.
― Soundslike, Thursday, 30 July 2020 13:20 (five years ago)
OK, had not listened to Kiwanuka until I knew of the link, but it's lovely.
― Tsar Bombadil (James Morrison), Friday, 31 July 2020 06:37 (five years ago)
I haven't listened to 'Untitled' yet but '7' is all-time imo
― weekly shopper helper (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 31 July 2020 08:10 (five years ago)
It has to have been said, but in addition to Sault x2 + Kiwanuka, Inflo's magic is deep in Kittle Simz 'Grey Area'. Dude made 4 of my 5 top 5 records in 2019...
― Soundslike, Friday, 31 July 2020 21:48 (five years ago)
I should listen to Little Simz album then!
― Gerneten-flüken cake (jed_), Friday, 31 July 2020 22:30 (five years ago)
This Little Simz album is great.
― sctttnnnt (pgwp), Saturday, 1 August 2020 20:56 (five years ago)
I pretty much endorse any project that Inflo has been attached to. He’s a brilliant musician and producer.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 1 August 2020 22:09 (five years ago)
And yes that includes a Kooks album!
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 1 August 2020 22:11 (five years ago)
FWIW, on the latest Sound Opinions episode, Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot call the new album a "masterpiece" and "album of the year."

With DeRo on our side, how can we go wrong?

This is the message I get via SAULT chat. Anything you want me to ask them?
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Sunday, 16 August 2020 15:55 (five years ago)
i believe it is a bot, as i received the same exact message.
the plot thickens.
― Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Sunday, 16 August 2020 16:42 (five years ago)
Have you replied to the message?
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Sunday, 16 August 2020 17:00 (five years ago)
yes!
i said thank you for making awesome music and the response was, "how long have you been a fan?"
― Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Sunday, 16 August 2020 17:18 (five years ago)
At this point, I think I prefer the Cleo Sol album over the new SAULT.
― Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Sunday, 16 August 2020 18:52 (five years ago)
why would you say something so controversial, yet so brave?
― Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Sunday, 16 August 2020 20:17 (five years ago)
It's my year of living dangerously
― Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Sunday, 16 August 2020 22:00 (five years ago)
Well, yeah the Cleo Sol album is one of the best of the year. I think I'd agree with it being stronger than the Sault album, but it feels like an extension of the same sort of sound.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 20 August 2020 22:34 (five years ago)
Absolutely does
― Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Thursday, 20 August 2020 22:35 (five years ago)
i disagree, but they're both in my top five, so whatevs.

i have one thing and one thing only to say:
OH FUCK YEAH
― Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Sunday, 6 September 2020 21:46 (five years ago)
seems like a new record to me, they obviously like to crank it out
― Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Sunday, 6 September 2020 22:49 (five years ago)
so the end of the last record goes in a fairly gospel direction, not sure how much I want more if that is what the cover art is indicating
― Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Sunday, 6 September 2020 22:52 (five years ago)
clips posted to their instagram just now.
― Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Monday, 7 September 2020 14:24 (five years ago)
Previews sound great! Only one track seems gospel-influence from what I can tell. Groove-wise it sounded closer to 5 to me.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 7 September 2020 16:12 (five years ago)
I don't want to spoil it so just gave a few seconds' listen to each preview but this sound potentislly right up there with '5' and '7' (love 'Untitled' but just not quite as much). Inflo is Midas but with a happy ending.
― Soundslike, Tuesday, 8 September 2020 06:05 (five years ago)

Got my CDs of '5,' '7,' and 'Untitled (Black Is),' but not LP of the latter. Seems like they're reaching folks in the U.S. now-ish.

I would *love* for "18 September" to mean midnight, GMT, so I could get this in two hours...
