i mean, i'm happy to just find ONE decent record. just one. i'll even overpay for it if it's something i actually want.

anni3 and i are going to LA this weekend, and might have some time to bop to some rekkstores. besides fishin for bargains at amoeba, where should we go? we'll wanna hit ooga booga in chinatown, but thats a little too boutiquey to satisfy all my dollar-bin fantasies

we'll be basically between hollywood and south pasadena

went to a big flea market on sunday and that was kinda fun. not a ton of records, but i got a couple of things for the store. nice copy of birds of a feather by jack blanchard & misty morgan. some other stuff.

a fruitful weekend, after hitting up amoeba i stumbled upon a garage sale and picked up a few $1 records i probably should've already owned...

i had no idea i would be selling so many tapes. i mean, not, like, crazy amounts, but i sell about 20 a week. which is around 19 more than i thought i'd be selling every week. then again, i'm probably the only record store in the county that sells them. and it's hard to find cool tapes at thrift stores.

aaron moore is also in amolvacy, who released one of the best records in recent memory--HoHoKus.

too bad the new starving weirdos album isn't on vinyl. cuz bo'weavil makes such nice vinyl packages. that might be my fave album of the year. i did get a really cool starving weirdos 7 inch from abandon ship records.

abandon ship sent me another really good two-dudes-sitting-around-collaborating-on-a-split-lp album by steve gunn and shawn david mcmillan. you guys probably know who they are. the steve gunn side is really pretty guitar stuff.

i will investigate volcano the bear. might have thought they were one of those twee indie animal acts.

i'm having so much fun listening to so much noise! haven't listened to so much of it in years. come to think of it, i've probably never listened to it as much as i am now. maybe i'll burn out on it, but it feels like there is so much good stuff out there right now. and so much under the radar experimental/sound stuff. maybe there always is. not noise and not on vinyl, but i can't get over how much fun that kommissar hjuler & mama bar comp i got is. so invigorating. and it definitely makes ME want to experiment and do crazy stuff. (i wish you guys could have heard the radio show me and maria did for awhile on the island. all cut-up sound stuff and some of it was actually really good too. i need to collaborate with my own mama bar more in the near future.)

anyway, vinyl-wise, i'm listening to the very noisy Embarker album on Malleable Records. (philly label that is awesome)

i'm also gonna sell some books today. i know this is the vinyl thread and not the books about music thread, but at the bookstore near me they had a really cool looking book abt the AACM, so i might pick that up. that reminds me that i have a copy of the richard abrams "levels and degrees of light" lp at work that i need to bring home.

I picked up so many good records this weekend and it's got me really psyched (Savage Republic, Holger Czukay, Landscape, Beach Boys, Chameleons, Vanilla Fudge, and others I can't remember at work).

BUT...

I bought a used copy of Amon Duul II's "Yeti", in a plastic sleeve, taped up, with the 'ask clerk to see disc' sticker for $20, took it home, and it's just the standard reissue! Same thing with a similarly packaged copy of The Beach Boys' "Surf's Up" ($12)! I feel duped!
Pretty sure both of those reissues new are pretty close to what they were charging used. Anyone have this happen? I really couldn't tell through all the plastic and tape that they were just reissues. buyer beware I guess?

hey, ian, do you have the BEAR album on verve? artie traum's old band with eric kaz? got that this weekend. i might actually keep it instead of selling it. first side is pretty cool anyway.

no! i don't! is it weird jazz rock? i hear a few of his later records (all on Rounder I think??) that weren't so hot.

got some good stuff to sell in the store. PRISTINE copy of young brigham by ramblin' jack. excellent oldtyme country record on REBEL records by curly ray cline. some other stuff.

man, i've definitely seen that record though, now that i google it. i wonder how i missed my man Artie. xp

REBEL RECORDS is/was run by David Freeman who also ran/runs County Records. Rebel put out those seldom scene records, which I like.

the BEAR album is 60's psych/rock stuff. good guitars on one track. doesn't sell for that much, i don't think.

i have a couple seldom scene records here. unless i sold them...

I guess I didn't post about it here, but a regular customer gave me a three record set of privately pressed LPs by BIG SLIM, THE LONESOME COWBOY. He was apparently one of the regular performers on the WWVA Jamboree show and these LPs were issued after he passed away (as they are called the Big Slim Memorial whatever.) Anyway, they're pretty cool. I guess his deal was that he was one of the only non-bluegrass acts on the jamboree, specializing in a very well played kind of western/cowboy country. since it was all stuff recorded for/on the radio, the line-up varies quite a bit. some tracks will have fiddle, some steel, etc. There's not much info about him online as far as I can find.

my brother in law gave me some cool stuff to sell in the store. peter plonsky album Op.30 Hairy Vibe & Double Identity. (90's boot of old plonsky tape of cut-up craziness. i'd never heard it, very cool!) also, 80's album by function disorder. also, very cool! only thing i can find about function disorder on the web is a mutant sounds post.

should i put self-titled jo-ann kelly album on epic out for 20 or 25? super clean u.s. copy. like, really clean.

theres a buy-it-now up for 18.99 and a ringworn EX- copy with a few bidders at $4.21 with a day left -- sounds like $20 to me?

yeah, that's what i was thinking. but i kept looking at how pretty it was and i got greedy.

ian, does your store sell the sunbeam double album reissue of the first clark hutchinson album? i'm trying to find the best price. i haven't searched all the online stores yet. or amazon, for that matter. might be able to find a deal there. not that i can really afford it right now, but, um, i want it...

I dunno if we have it in stock or not at the moment, it's my day off. but i can check. sunbeam stuff is really expensive in general :( i am sooooo over buying expensive psych reissues.
