I stand corrected
― Brakhage, Monday, 28 January 2008 04:30 (eighteen years ago)
This kind of judgment on first listening to lowbitrate samples is what the group itself is anxious to avoid I'd imagine.
True. When I was listening to it I kept daydreaming about the DJ saying "Whoops, somehow I was sitting on the reverb button! This is what the songs really sound like, sorry!", and then playing them again. I'll still give it a fair shot when it comes out. I probably need to revisit Untilted. I only gave it about a month before I gave up.

Download is available now @ bleep, double CD edition preorder & more:
http://www.autechre.ws/quaristice/mail/
― StanM, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 15:34 (eighteen years ago)
That's limited edition double CD edition, by the way. 1000 ex.
― StanM, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 15:42 (eighteen years ago)
i'm really liking those tracks in the Wire stream, the reverb stuff sounds great on them, kind of dubby. the stream made me more excited about the album.
― Mark Clemente, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 15:43 (eighteen years ago)
Limited edition double CD eh? Sold! (For £30! And to think I laughed at those Radiohead fans shelling out £40 for the box set.)
― ledge, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 15:46 (eighteen years ago)
yeah, me too. and the download. (and that radiohead disc box) *sigh*
:-)
― StanM, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 16:04 (eighteen years ago)
I thought about paying for the download - I want to hear it before the tour - but I don't feel like paying twice! Daresay it'll find its way onto the net somewhere.
― ledge, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 16:12 (eighteen years ago)
... but the mp3 version contains track-by-track artwork by the Designers Republic!
er, like this one for track 10. Use your imagination for the other 19 tracks: vary the size and location of the small square and the colors (blue, white or black).

yay
― StanM, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 16:27 (eighteen years ago)
(that's a white square with a black one inside - damn white background, forgot this would happen)
― StanM, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 16:28 (eighteen years ago)
judging from bleep samples, "perlence" is their response to dubstep
― jermainetwo, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 16:33 (eighteen years ago)
and "chenc9" could be the tuss.
― jermainetwo, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 16:35 (eighteen years ago)
It's weird - it's like they're taking a step back (reintroduction of apparent simplicity and melody) and one forward (order in the chaos they'd built up until now) at the same time - if that makes any sense. Think I'm going to like this, but then I like pretty much everything they've done.
― StanM, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 16:45 (eighteen years ago)
Here I was ready to write them off. Based on the Beeb and Wire exclusives, I'm excited that they've finally ditched the super-compressed Draft sound.
― Leee, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 17:23 (eighteen years ago)
I dont have £30 just now :(
― Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 22:13 (eighteen years ago)
Good news for you, it's only £24.99.
― Leee, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 22:31 (eighteen years ago)
US tour dates too.
― Leee, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 22:33 (eighteen years ago)
... and in Canada.
― Leee, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 22:35 (eighteen years ago)
Glasgow date march 1st at the art school i think
― Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 22:44 (eighteen years ago)
it's only £24.99.
plus p+p
so being impatient and a sucker i succumbed to bleep. only i couldn't get the zip download to work so had to get the tracks one by one, then i had to cancel one of them and when i went back to the download manager it wouldn't let me get it again ;_;
Crackle Box, here's that webcast. unfortunately it's apparently missing the first 45 mins or so. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0PPCPADV
― ledge, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 23:13 (eighteen years ago)
and they're hitting Seattle on this tour … BONUS
― Brakhage, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 00:44 (eighteen years ago)
i'm really loving the new album.
― Creeztophair, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 02:28 (eighteen years ago)
WTF ltd edition is already sold out.
― Leee, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 03:56 (eighteen years ago)
Um, this turns out to be really great. My favorite of theirs since Confield.
― Z S, Saturday, 2 February 2008 00:48 (eighteen years ago)
cant get into. hope its a grower.
― chaki, Saturday, 2 February 2008 00:56 (eighteen years ago)
the last three autechre albums have taken ages to sink in for me, but that's not necessarily a bad thing and once i lived with them long enough they were/are very rewarding listens especially untilted. the first listen to this reminded me of parts of chiastic slide a bit.
― tricky, Saturday, 2 February 2008 21:38 (eighteen years ago)
They essentially slag off the limited edition release in their Clash interview http://www.clashmusic.com/feature/autechre-quaristice;
It makes no odds to me. Actually, it does; I’d prefer (people) to download it than buy it physically. It fits our agenda much better that way. Our plan has never been to produce CDs - it’s always been about making music. If there’s a way of charging for it and getting the content to people, then we’ll adopt whichever is the most transparent. The actual product is the FLAC file – but I don’t object to those who want to own something that they can hold”
― Kiff, Sunday, 10 February 2008 19:22 (eighteen years ago)
i don't see how they're addressing the ltd 2cd release, just the usual physical format vs. digital file debate...
― stephen, Sunday, 10 February 2008 23:16 (eighteen years ago)
-- Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, January 29, 2008 10:44 PM (1 week ago)
And if you were there the last time they played the art school you'll know to avoid!
― jim, Sunday, 10 February 2008 23:17 (eighteen years ago)
there's a 2cd version?. is it available in the americas?
― Creeztophair, Monday, 11 February 2008 00:16 (eighteen years ago)
There was - but it already sold out.
― Z S, Monday, 11 February 2008 01:43 (eighteen years ago)
"fwZe" is so sweet, I love their new short attention span policy
― Drew Daniel, Monday, 11 February 2008 19:17 (eighteen years ago)
yeah after three albums in a row mostly featuring 5-7 minute long gradually evolving tracks, just fausting together 60 minutes worth of snippets seems like a good way to go
the board recording mp3 of the 2005 glasgow show is great. basically the same set I saw in SF at mezzanine, far more straightforward & clubby than anything they put on albums (though the acid numbers on this new one come close)
― Milton Parker, Monday, 11 February 2008 19:25 (eighteen years ago)
ledge - thanks for the upload.
that clash interview is great. i think im gonna have a full on comfy chair/dark room/studio speakers/LOUD first listen to this.
― Crackle Box, Monday, 11 February 2008 19:34 (eighteen years ago)
Excellent interview by Mark Richardson on Pfork today: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/feature/48520-interview-autechre

I'd like to be an alternate universe where that last para gets picked up by the tabloids.
"Sean Booth Slams R&B! 'It's holding everything back', claims electronic music pioneer"
― ledge, Monday, 18 February 2008 19:53 (eighteen years ago)
^ er i mean rob brown of course :/
― ledge, Monday, 18 February 2008 19:54 (eighteen years ago)
To those still hoping for a return to the old Autechre sound:
I have just settled down and listened to Incunabula and Amber and realized, in retrospect, how cheesy they were, and how contrasted our newer ideas are. Even though I might still think we're still banging out big riffs and big beats and whatever sort of cinematic, cheesy moments, you just realize that you're too close.
I tend to agree with his assessment, although I'm sure many people would think him loony for saying such a thing.
― Z S, Monday, 18 February 2008 20:21 (eighteen years ago)
skimmed thru this on bleep. first track is nice, simm begins really well but loses it a bit for me. the only other thing i like is bnc castl - the temptation to stick a massive kickdrum under it is proving great.
― blueski, Monday, 18 February 2008 23:40 (eighteen years ago)
reminder:
Radio show = tomorrow (Saturday 23 February, 20 GMT) on http://www.autechre.ws
― StanM, Friday, 22 February 2008 11:57 (eighteen years ago)
cool.
Still figuring out this album. May take some time. One thought: bnc castl reminds me of Are People People - the insane Adrian Sherwood "mix" of People are People by Depeche Mode.
― ledge, Friday, 22 February 2008 12:03 (eighteen years ago)
there's a mix for MAH on Radio 1 tuesday night too.
― koogs, Friday, 22 February 2008 12:40 (eighteen years ago)
12 hours!?
Autechre - 2008-02-23 - Autechre.ws webcast.mp3 File Size : 495MB (519 728 107 bytes) Duration : 12:00:37.421 (1906770287 samples)

I only listened to the first hour or two, which was pretty much solid hip-hip/electro. Tuned in a while later to hear the somewhat obscure early Depeche Mode b-side "Now This Is Fun", which they also played on their 2005 webcast.
― ledge, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 10:16 (eighteen years ago)
fausting
lol
― gnarly sceptre, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 10:36 (eighteen years ago)

whole album is on their myspace page. I like it more than their last few so far.
― Hurting 2, Wednesday, 27 February 2008 13:03 (eighteen years ago)
loving this and i haven't liked anything of theirs in a while
― am0n, Friday, 29 February 2008 04:38 (eighteen years ago)
that wecast is pretty spectacular. i listened to 3 hours of it at work and never got bored of it.
