i really wanted to hate the Regulate edit, but it was actually pretty decent. i am, however, stuggling to figure out why someone thought that "Lost In Music" needed a filter house mix. MAKE IT STOP.

Do It To The Max is hypnotizing

Great thread. R&B Drunkie has been my favorite track to play for almost a year now. Sounds way too good every time
― sovietpanda, Thursday, 2 July 2009 18:54 (sixteen years ago)
the new Instruments of Rapture by the OOFT boys is another winner! not *quite* as good as "Just a Memory" for me (which Herb Alpert tune is that, btw?) but i'm feeling it. out soon...
― mikebee (BATTAGS), Friday, 3 July 2009 06:46 (sixteen years ago)
R&B Drunkie is awesome. I emailed the record label to see if they were repressing the other week, but they haven't replied so I guess not.
― Chewshabadoo, Friday, 3 July 2009 08:23 (sixteen years ago)
kinda prefer the og janet track

I agree! I haven't really heard anything by The Revenge that lived up to Night Flight, which is absolutely amazing.
― Jamie T Smith, Friday, 3 July 2009 08:51 (sixteen years ago)
man i found a white label much-faster rmx of 'love light in flight' about 2 yrs ago that i kinda prefer

"kinda prefer the og janet track
― zzz (deej)"
i like both, i keep the Janet 12" next to R&B Drunkie in the box. i have been playing the Janet much more often recently.
"why?
― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr)"
i mean, that concept doesn't sound horribly ironic to you? it does to me. they pulled it off nicely tho, without sounding like a joke.
i didn't realise that they were behind that Cadillac joint. that's another one i don't care much for. there are so many better Hot Chocolate jams!

PPF up there with amplified orchestra for volume of quality edits, i reckon.
― surge gainsbourg protector (haitch), Sunday, 4 October 2009 01:43 (sixteen years ago)
wish i'd actually bought 'a collage education' for excellent rework of 'love can't turn around'.
love 'back 2 back' and ruf dog 'dirty' 12"s (which i did get).
― surge gainsbourg protector (haitch), Sunday, 4 October 2009 01:49 (sixteen years ago)
dirty is so insane!
― moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 4 October 2009 01:50 (sixteen years ago)
which is the best version, tho?
impossible choice. maybe unabombers??
― surge gainsbourg protector (haitch), Sunday, 4 October 2009 01:52 (sixteen years ago)
or maybe leo zero? would fit your more balearic tempo sets easily. they're all great!
― surge gainsbourg protector (haitch), Sunday, 4 October 2009 02:00 (sixteen years ago)
So this is a thread for people who wish they were Theo but aren't nearly as good? Exciting.

haha. i thought i was in this thread when i posted that
itt: kinda out there, maybe kinda experimental, maybe kinda pretentious modern r&b
― jaxon, Sunday, 4 October 2009 17:28 (sixteen years ago)
mark e just released tons of stuff. i dig the freakin shriekin 12", and the one on endless flight (codsall juniors?) is growing on me
all instruments of rapture stuff from this year is also v good, tho the revenge seems to be falling off a bit with most of his other releases and remixes
also the don froth 12" from early this year is still doing it for me tho. and don't forget about the linkwood album!!!
― psychgawsple, Sunday, 4 October 2009 20:19 (sixteen years ago)
Some of the MCDE Raw Cuts tracks are right up this street too
― plazzTT, Monday, 5 October 2009 00:42 (sixteen years ago)
The recent Mark E 12" on Merc has a side ("track 1") that sounds like a slowed down house-y edit of an R-Tyme track!
― t (tricky), Monday, 5 October 2009 00:50 (sixteen years ago)
I know I always post Juno links, but really if you go to their best selling Deep House page it is like a primer on this stuff.

has everyone had a chance to listen to the linkwood full-length? totally willing to upload if need be
― psychgawsple, Wednesday, 7 October 2009 01:45 (sixteen years ago)
also just realized this came out earlier in the year- http://www.discogs.com/Ray-Mang-Mangled-Again/release/1806800. what i've heard is pretty stellar
― psychgawsple, Wednesday, 7 October 2009 02:08 (sixteen years ago)
so yeah, this is pretty much going to be the next big thing, i think, as the cosmic disco / balearic trend slowly dies down
so what's really good and new?
― moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 04:31 (sixteen years ago)
It's not super-new, but have you heard "Walk in Deepness" by Reggie Dokes? (on Prime Numbers) That is my jam. It's 120 BPM psychedelic jazz house, but sounds awesome pitched down.
The new Big Strick single on FXHE is very good as well. There are some techno tracks on it, but "A Walk Down Linwood" is definitely fitting for this thread. It came out on the FXHE comp earlier this year, but the new single has two versions. Beautiful keys.
― t (tricky), Wednesday, 28 October 2009 04:53 (sixteen years ago)
Gotta agree with you tricky, that whole EP is pretty mindblowing. Its a shame we might lose him to making R'n'B.
I guess its not a shame for the autotune cru though, I'm kinda curious what his stuff might sound like.
Apparently he's a big Jam and Lewis head.
Back when I still had a weekly I played Jam and Lewis's Latin mix of Patti Austin Heat of Heat all the time. The semi-empty bar appreciated that, my friends begged me to play dubstep instead.
But that kind of late 80s modern soul slots in like a dream with this kind of thing.
Obviously with the Janet edit.
Anybody care for a FLAC of the track?
― Silent Ally (Siah Alan), Wednesday, 28 October 2009 07:16 (sixteen years ago)
if this is the next big thing it needs a stupid made up name
― Bobby Wo (max), Wednesday, 28 October 2009 12:50 (sixteen years ago)
hypnagogic disco
Who are you talking about "losing to R'n'B" Siah?
― matt2, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 15:15 (sixteen years ago)
Reggie Dokes.
The John Daly - Sea & Sky album is pretty good. Can't wait for the Juju and Jordash album but I anticipate that being a bit faster in the bpm range.
― brotherlovesdub, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 15:28 (sixteen years ago)
