And you want the whole line copied or just the part in bold?

Hackers (1995) (Will M.), Thursday, 21 May 2020 22:51 (four years ago) link

you absolutely don't need the annotation past the dot, and if you're not voting for a specific version there's no need to fuss with 'featuring' and 'extended'

any finicky, ubernerdy or idiosyncratic notes about preferences are welcome anywhere in yr ballots as long as I can sort the main vote alphabetically :)

Bleeqwot (sic), Thursday, 21 May 2020 23:35 (four years ago) link

I hope it's ok that I haven't c&pd from that for the ballot I'm about to send in the next 24 hours

or something, Thursday, 21 May 2020 23:35 (four years ago) link

anything will be a step up from holding the polls open an extra week+ for someone who then submitted with joke names for every song that they made up while typing

Bleeqwot (sic), Friday, 22 May 2020 02:27 (four years ago) link

Haha name names!

or something, Friday, 22 May 2020 09:06 (four years ago) link

I know it's not eligible but man that Dirty Ambi Piano version of Dirty Epic is some good shit

groovypanda, Friday, 22 May 2020 10:09 (four years ago) link

Voted, a nice round 50. Plus albums. I really need to spend more time with DRIFT tho

or something, Friday, 22 May 2020 13:15 (four years ago) link

voted!

maffew12, Friday, 22 May 2020 14:13 (four years ago) link

i'm gonna vote today! I have my top 69 (nice, but it was an accident) and I'm gonna zip around a bit more to make sure I didn't miss anything stupid and/or hand out some free passes for the 70s get it up to 77

Hackers (1995) (Will M.), Friday, 22 May 2020 19:15 (four years ago) link

Got my list in! Had to cut a few tracks from my 77 due to some last minute research, including re-discovering "Puppies" and finding out about "Twenty Three Blue". And Cowgirl is my #13 somehow, couldn't find a way to get it higher. Crazy crazy.

cheek, Friday, 22 May 2020 19:25 (four years ago) link

I've got my long list down to about 150 and am working on full-album listens in between some of the longer, more ambienty tracks

not sure if this is breaking news, but these guys are pretty good at making albums

Bleeqwot (sic), Friday, 22 May 2020 19:36 (four years ago) link

xp funny, Cowgirl is my #13 too (tho Rez is #2) and i also listened to Puppies and 23 Blue today too cuz I took a read of the Electronic Sound piece from 2018 that was issued with those two songs on a 45 (sounds like you did too) though neither of those made my ballot. Mosaic, Deep Arch, and Oich Oich did, far as Pearls Girl b-sides go! Put in Rowla instead of Cherry Pie, that's just the way the wind was blowing.

maffew12, Friday, 22 May 2020 19:50 (four years ago) link

updated in that all-in-one list that Oich Oich originally came out in 1993

listening to "big meat show," an outtake from dubnobass that's on the 1992-2012 comp, and it's..... fantastic???? they produced enough incredible music for three albums during and around that one

like... did Rick Smith see daylight at any point in 1991, 1992 or 1993

Bleeqwot (sic), Friday, 22 May 2020 20:06 (four years ago) link

Oich Oich in '93? Wow. All I can turn up about that is the date it has on Graham Wood's video portfolio.

I've downloaded some old underworldlive.com materials that I haven't bothered to dig back into yet. This one's fun

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLdjTxvZN84

Cute fan video. Is this just capture of a visualizer?

maffew12, Friday, 22 May 2020 20:17 (four years ago) link

I VOTED god that was difficult at the end and i'm glad i did a late sweep to include some stuff i had initially left off the ballot. got to 77 and then some!

Hackers (1995) (Will M.), Friday, 22 May 2020 20:23 (four years ago) link

Voted, probably slighted Drift but it's THEIR FAULT for releasing too much music in one year.

lukas, Friday, 22 May 2020 20:24 (four years ago) link

All I can turn up about that is the date it has on Graham Wood's video portfolio.

released in 1994 on the Kiteless (A Tomato Project) VHS, dated as 1993 on the Footwear Repairs By Craftsmen At Competitive Prices VHS, so presumably screened in a Tomato exhibition in 1993

Bleeqwot (sic), Friday, 22 May 2020 20:48 (four years ago) link

yeah some Drift tracks got short shrift with me as it was like: this track is ace but it's up against this other track that's also ace *and* I've loved for 25 years xp

also, cowgirl is very high on my ballot but think it's great that this seminal UW track is not placing top ten on others

sic, is it ok to submit tomorrow (as my top 30 is now locked but trying to listen and order the ones below that)?

I've also been listening to the albums on decent headphones and have been picking up details I'd never heard before. like its only taken me 24 years to realise that 'confusion the waitress' is actually spoken in the track 😊

groovypanda, Friday, 22 May 2020 20:59 (four years ago) link

sic - just sent a revised ballot, hopefully you can disregard my previous one

or something, Friday, 22 May 2020 21:10 (four years ago) link

yeah, Sunday night is the mushy extension for all, though I’ll start sifting the received ballots tonight

Bleeqwot (sic), Friday, 22 May 2020 21:11 (four years ago) link

xp no prob

Bleeqwot (sic), Friday, 22 May 2020 21:12 (four years ago) link

Ta

or something, Friday, 22 May 2020 21:16 (four years ago) link

I took a read of the Electronic Sound piece from 2018 that was issued with those two songs on a 45 (sounds like you did too)

funny, that's a total coincidence! just happened upon those two tracks in a final run-through of b-sides.

cheek, Friday, 22 May 2020 21:45 (four years ago) link

Too funny. I saw a post about it on the Facebook Drift group today so I went and read it. In the piece, they're just about to release Brilliant Yes That Would Be as sort of a one-off... I say sort of because it doesn't really sound like they know what the hell the plan is on "World of Underworld"... Spotify playlists mainly? Karl is "bemused". Then Drift happened.

maffew12, Friday, 22 May 2020 21:53 (four years ago) link

Fifteen ballots in so far - would any diligent voters like a two-hour best-of the Oblivion tour as a reward?

Bleeqwot (sic), Friday, 22 May 2020 22:38 (four years ago) link

uhhh hell yeah?

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 22 May 2020 22:42 (four years ago) link

Another five ballots and you can have a different, two-and-a-half hour best-of: 50% different versions, 50% songs that aren't on this one.

Bleeqwot (sic), Saturday, 23 May 2020 02:18 (four years ago) link

aw man should i have voted for “confusion the waitress”

this is the curse of underworld live versions, them rethinking their catalog makes *you* rethink their catalog

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Saturday, 23 May 2020 04:32 (four years ago) link

yeah, I probably wouldn't have thought to have "Little Speaker" on my ballot if not for that!

maffew12, Saturday, 23 May 2020 11:48 (four years ago) link

vibe i'm getting from this "best of the bells tour" comp is that the london roundhouse 29/02/08 show was a real banger

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Saturday, 23 May 2020 16:30 (four years ago) link

saving the live gigs for post voting

I've now listened to over 1,000 UW tracks the last few weeks and fallen in love with this amazing band all over again

special to Will M. - contains a live Phonestrap 6 / Autotrader 4

― Bleeqwot (sic), Friday, May 22, 2020 6:49 PM (yesterday) bookmarkflaglink

WOW thank you! I can't wait to check this out :)

Also I'd like to give an early TOO LOW to Moaner, because I was listening to it (like 6 times in a row) last night and I'm pretty sure I ranked it too low on my ballot. And it was at or around the top 10!

Hackers (1995) (Will M.), Saturday, 23 May 2020 22:04 (four years ago) link

Setlist.fm says it's the only time they played it!

my "mixes and reworks" compilation goes from the Relentless Legs mix of Moaner into the Barking mix of KOS, which is

https://discordemoji.com/assets/emoji/6758_Chef_Kiss.png

I guess they were in a rough time around then, almost breaking up around the Olympics (I'm not sure Karl worked on that stuff at all?).

Karl wrote some lyrics for Caliban's Dream, but may not have been involved in anything else? whereas Rick had to subcontract High Contrast to handle the less-involved athletes' march half of the event, and was hospitalised from exhaustion within hours of the ceremony

just listen/watched one of the five times they ever played And I Will Kiss (across two months in 2018), and Rick gives Karl a tetchy "not now!" wave away Karl starts to fiddle with his effects desk and double the choral part

Bleeqwot (sic), Saturday, 23 May 2020 23:00 (four years ago) link

Also I'd like to give an early TOO LOW to Moaner, because I was listening to it (like 6 times in a row) last night and I'm pretty sure I ranked it too low on my ballot. And it was at or around the top 10!

Ha. I clumsily mentioned Moaner the other night when I was ranking my ballot. I was surprised at myself not ranking it at all. I do love Moaner. Top 100 track for sure! It was their newest single when I got into the band. This is going to sound ridiculous probably... but just looking at the entirety of their work to this point, it feels so completely out-done in every aspect. Moaner throws absolutely everything at the wall and I just think it sounds kinda goofy right now. At the time it was the perfect thing in their catalogue for closing shows. But now they have handfuls of bangers, euphoric songs, scary songs, ranty songs, whatever. Moaner seems to be doing all of these things at once.... and it deserves so much credit for not falling to pieces entirely.

But maybe I was unfair.

... Early TOO LOW for "Jumbo" here.

maffew12, Saturday, 23 May 2020 23:49 (four years ago) link

Good news, guys, I finally found a rip of the Australia-only "Extasy Pass" 1989 12" B-side mix of Thrash, so can really crack on with trimming my list down now

Bleeqwot (sic), Saturday, 23 May 2020 23:57 (four years ago) link

lol.. hey what is the total number of tracks?

maffew12, Sunday, 24 May 2020 00:01 (four years ago) link

Voted!

That was tough (but fun)

with my own finished-at-6am ballot, that's another five, so here's another Obliviobestof (NB: the last two tracks are mistitled as 29/2, should be the 28th)

Still looking forward to getting ballots from Eric H and Tim F today - anyone else racing to the extended deadline? (Dan?)
