Autechre: Classic or Dud?

thanks for the link - I tried to install two different Twitch apps on the smart telly just for this to no avail, but have had it burbling in the background on laptop speakers for three hours now

saying the music reflects the picture prompts the question about who wrote the graphical bits.

“controlled by certain events but it’s minimal interaction” isn’t much of an explanation - I reckon it’s work in progress for a live show and there are probably sliders controlling parameters or similar

yeah someone said they banned the word "the" yesterday. i can't even figure out how to join the chat - do you have to be logged in? i can't figure out how to do that! just as well tbh.

Yeah you just have to register/login to your twitch account

Graphics really remind me of those plug-ins w/ visualizers that you could get for winamp et al circa... '99? '00? Except with those they (claimed to) move to the beat, whereas here that's well, not that easy :)

It appears the visuals are taking into account the contents of the chat, so people are posting crazy emojis and ascii art which then is incorporated into the generated visuals which then alters the timbre and flow of the music. This is some seriously badass Ae generative fan interaction music.

You are probably thinking of Milkdrop, originally a plugin for Winamp, which was spectacularly effective at creating sound reactive visuals that indeed were functional (used FFTs to translate freq ranges into parameters to adjust various plugins' visual states)

It was so efficient at what it did for its time and so effective with its conveyance of synesthesia, that I'd say only in the last 5 years or so have concert visuals really surpassed it consistently as a satisfying aesthetic accompaniment.

That was it, Milkdrop! :)

on twitch a while ago sean said they had two albums ready; yesterday warp tweeted a link to the store, i had a look at watmm to see if anything was going down and someone said they knew someone at a printers who were prepping two covers, one orange one green...

Anyway, I'm glad to hear them do normal length things again. Been a bit overwhelmed by all they've done over the last 4-5 years
