that is very true and i despise that such a book exists; nonetheless i feel that of the two eponymous personality disorders, that might not be the one in play

this is definitely an art project on how people perceive men and women in breakups

good call and i will owe you five dollars when the performance is named

It's named "Can I have five dollars?"
― Andrew Farrell, Sunday, 10 May 2020 08:04 (six years ago)
i despise that such a book exists
why? people with BPD and/or narcissism are often really damaged/damaging in relationships and do not take break ups well -- like that's part of the disorder. Considering there are books with helpful advice for partners/former partners of depressed people, alcoholics, victims of childhood sexual abuse ... it isn't saying "people with these issues are evil" just that their mental health problems often make the already difficult task of ending relationships even more difficult.

lol at Neil and his request for privacy, if you want privacy then marrying and then breaking up with Amanda Palmer must be the worst possible way to go about it.

Amanda and I wrote a letter together, for the curious and for the bits of the world that is wondering what's going on, and whether they should worry about it.

Amanda Palmer has a new podcast called The Art of Asking Everything and I read the press release real fast and thought it was called The Art of Asking *FOR* Everything and I think that actually works better.

off the cuff, it occurs to me that AP fandom is a lot like the MAGA cult - it's about "owning the squares" rather than "owning the libs", but it's a cult of personality just like Asshole's. I guess the saving grace is that it's pitiable rather than empowering a political party with a toxic agenda.
― assert (MatthewK), Wednesday, 23 September 2020 03:14 (five years ago)
she’s very square as far as being part of an establishment goes imo and the fact she’s rallied so many people to her side actually troubles her when it comes to some avenues of appeal!
there’s an amanda palmer army out there. god bless them, the fact they exist makes her weaker and I hope she rectifies that, one way or the other

― PaulTMA, Wednesday, 23 September 2020 18:00 (five years ago)
Regardless of how "establishment" she actually is, there is definitely an aggressive "Look at how weird I am, does that freak you out?" vibe, and the community she cultivates is about collective identification as art-nerd misfits.

https://vimeo.com/137910781one thing you can learn from time lapse is how people centralize themselves to situations. That said, this is a process/prep video of a topless, pregnant, "visible woman" bodypainted Palmer readying for her "performance" standing in front of the New York Public Library, ostensibly as part of a book drive. Yes I'm serious.

appropriating hirst so that you have an excuse to stand naked in times square for "fifteen minutes" so that you can collect an average yard sale amount of used books on behalf of the biggest library in the united states is a level of attention thirst i can only barely comprehend, kudos

exactly! that vibe is kind of funny to me when the community is so damn big. I have no doubt that there are AP fans in the middle of nowhere, where they get funny looks from the people in their small town and people are jerks to them and her music and aesthetic are really a respite. I don’t want to take that from them. but when you’re AP, and you’re surrounded by fans, you absolutely do not freak out the people you’re in contact with
― mh, Wednesday, 23 September 2020 20:58 (five years ago)
Exactly this. AP reminds me of the kids I'd see in college who would walk around wearing some homemade outfit or elaborate costume trying to provoke a reaction. Instead of just being confident in themselves and walking around doing their thing, there was a performative aspect to it where they'd be very forceful in trying to make eye contact and standing directly in your path, hoping to provoke some sort of reaction for the imagined "square" to be put off by the "freak".
