got the Ka, it's intense. only half an hour long, doesn't waste a syllable

imago, Saturday, 2 May 2020 21:57 (six years ago)

new Ka is more of him doing his thing, maybe even a shade more chill than normal. nothing wrong with that as no one on earth sounds like him

Armand Hammer's Paraffin was pretty damn good but Shrines is next level.

pomenitul, Monday, 22 June 2020 18:58 (five years ago)

tbh, i couldn't stand paraffin. but shrines was much closer in spirit to billy woods' great albums from last year, definitely more my speed.

ACABincalifornia (voodoo chili), Monday, 22 June 2020 19:34 (five years ago)

Agree that it didn't hold a candle to Hiding Places or even Terror Management but it was still solid in my book. I should revisit it in light of Shrines.

pomenitul, Monday, 22 June 2020 19:42 (five years ago)

Billy Woods is one of me overall most listened to artists lately

ACABincalifornia (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 1 July 2020 19:10 (five years ago)

No idea where else to put this, but the new Killah Priest album Rocket to Nebula is a beatless, ethereal and spiritual cloud rap victory. With a ridiculous album cover to boot! Seriously, this is great.

Scampidocio (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 9 July 2020 13:54 (five years ago)

oh awesome didn't know about that

I don't get Pop Smoke

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 9 July 2020 14:01 (five years ago)

pop smoke is cool, i wasn't blown away with any of the projects he dropped when he was alive, but i've grown to really appreciate the hits. his stuff had a bounce and it was fun to rap along. his main artistic mode was '50 cent if he smoked 500 cigarettes before each verse,' but it would've been cool to see him grow.

ACABincalifornia (voodoo chili), Thursday, 9 July 2020 17:18 (five years ago)

that all sounds about right to me; his hits still resonate for me. I should listen to the new album.

i've been spending a ton of time in my local cemetery; it's about 350 acres of open land and one of the only places to be calm and alone in nature in brooklyn right now. Pop Smoke was buried under his government name out there in February in an unassuming and hard to find space and there is ALWAYS a group of two to five kids keeping vigil by his entombment.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 9 July 2020 17:53 (five years ago)

PS to Matt, thanks for Koreatown Oddity; that guy is great

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 9 July 2020 17:53 (five years ago)

maybe I'll try again, I haven't really found any of the newer generation of NYC post drill/trap/whatever rappers that interesting

Love Koreatown Oddity, I'm a sucker for those West Coast weirdo vibes

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 9 July 2020 19:04 (five years ago)

don't try with the new album, imo. it's a&r'd to death.

nyc drill isn't my bag either, tbh, but sheff g and sleepy hallow are doing interesting things. idk who said, but i saw someone on twitter describe sheff g as sounding like 'if scarface were british' lol

ACABincalifornia (voodoo chili), Thursday, 9 July 2020 19:14 (five years ago)

the only thing I really heard of Pop was the new album, aside from a couple things on YouTube prior, does he have a definitive mixtape?

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 9 July 2020 19:39 (five years ago)

his first mixtape is entirely produced by 808 melo and it has his two most famous songs, i'd check that out. only 9 tracks.

ACABincalifornia (voodoo chili), Thursday, 9 July 2020 19:58 (five years ago)

sheff g & sleepy hallow "molly" is one of the best rap singles of the year

J0rdan S., Thursday, 9 July 2020 21:44 (five years ago)

its a very not-drill song (at least in the ny drill sense...) but yah thats great

ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Friday, 10 July 2020 22:33 (five years ago)

dee watkins' chosen one tape is a couple months old by now, but im a fan. he's got that north florida bite in his voice, and a touch of the youngboy/yungeen ace melodic sensibility. good stuff
