xxp crypto, i was right!

Nudeln und Klopapier Gore (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 19:03 (six years ago)

My #2.

Feel a million filaments (Sund4r), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 19:03 (six years ago)

xp Yeah, to day is going to be nothing but smashes. I've figured out 5 of the 6. If I am right about the 6th, it would be a bit of surprise to me.

Fetch the Bolt Thrower (PBKR), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 19:03 (six years ago)

Not the surprise, except I thought it would be top 5.

Fetch the Bolt Thrower (PBKR), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 19:04 (six years ago)

Sufjan: yeah!

Maria Edgelord (cryptosicko), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 19:12 (six years ago)

it is a v good and also interesting choice. kinda realized how amazing it is while putting together my own list.

Nudeln und Klopapier Gore (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 19:14 (six years ago)

"Machine Gun" was my #1. The unhinged-ness of Hendrix's vocal is what puts it over the top for me - that, and the unbelievable guitar soloing, of course.

but also fuck you (unperson), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 19:15 (six years ago)

the noisy, ramshackle manic is my fav track from the debut, helps that it's relatively easy to hack the main part on the guitar!

edgard varese-type beat (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 19:16 (six years ago)

xp it is ridiculously good. It is definitely my #1 on some days.

Nudeln und Klopapier Gore (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 19:17 (six years ago)

between watchtower and machine gun for my fav hendrix solo, but i voted for machine gun higher in teh poll

hey this song is pretty good

edgard varese-type beat (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 19:21 (six years ago)

I know there was stuff like "Tomorrow Never Knows" and "Eight Miles High" out there already, but the opening of "Purple Haze" really feels like the "We're Not In Kansas Anymore..." of Psych.

im unreasonably happy that this placed so high

edgard varese-type beat (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 19:32 (six years ago)

how dare jimi's friends suggest that he may not be able to live or breathe underwater? the nerve on some people.

edgard varese-type beat (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 19:33 (six years ago)

This poll's "Sway"? or would that be Machine Gun?

Ρεμπετολογια, Tuesday, 28 April 2020 19:42 (six years ago)

This = the surprise, but not the track I thought! I didn't vote for it, but I love it! Three #1!!!s

Fetch the Bolt Thrower (PBKR), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 19:48 (six years ago)

I’ve forgotten what the OG “Sway” is now 😆.

Anyway 1983/Moon would have been high on my ballot if I’d voted.

Jeff W, Tuesday, 28 April 2020 19:49 (six years ago)

they also threw this in my face

edgard varese-type beat (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 19:50 (six years ago)

Re: Purple Haze - to me the most sonically audacious of the big songs off the first album. So big and beefy. You would probably have gotten to metal anyways, but this song definitely pointed the way more than any other I can think of that music could be that heavy.

Fetch the Bolt Thrower (PBKR), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 19:53 (six years ago)

1983 was #3 on my ballot but on some days it could be #1. Electric Ladyland was the first Hendrix I head beyond the hits and I just wasn't expecting something like this at all.

Gavin, Leeds, Tuesday, 28 April 2020 20:04 (six years ago)

1983 was my #13. i love it more in theory than in practice. loses the plot towards the end, imo; too much psychedelic horseshit (and i _like_ psychedelic horseshit). somewhere in my head there's a version of "1983" that's truly transcendent, "mysterium" in full rather than just an unfinished prelude.

merman, dad. merman.

Nudeln und Klopapier Gore (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 20:22 (six years ago)

Too Low! My #1.

Opening riff signals danger like the rattle from a snake. There is a reason it soundtracks every 1960s based movie. It IS the 1960s and it cannot be overplayed or fucked with.

Fetch the Bolt Thrower (PBKR), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 20:25 (six years ago)

And that solo. Every section of it could be expanded to 5 minutes, but it's so concise.

was my #2!!! wow!

edgard varese-type beat (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 20:35 (six years ago)

That placement surprises me. But that probably just shows how far apart my taste is from most Hendrix fans'. I've never liked that song.

but also fuck you (unperson), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 20:36 (six years ago)

it is the guitar that makes it enjoyable

Nudeln und Klopapier Gore (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 20:39 (six years ago)

it's a well-constructed and beautiful little ditty, too. hence all the covers.

edgard varese-type beat (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 20:41 (six years ago)

Little Wing was my #5 and I knew it was going to be high on the ILX poll. Surprising to me is that is not a unique ILX take: it's Jimi's fourth most played song on Spotify, higher than Fire or Foxey Lady.

Fetch the Bolt Thrower (PBKR), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 20:41 (six years ago)

i should mention that i totally forgot until now about mr. mcfall's chamber's version of "little wing" from their "like the milk" album, which surely would have made my covers shortlist if i'd remembered. it's not on youtube, but it is exceeding fine.

Kate (rushomancy), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 20:49 (six years ago)

stoked to see "1983" place so highly, that was my #2.

My #2. I just realized the San Diego 1969 version is the Hendrix In the West version, complete with crowd rushing the stage and Jimi begging the crowd to let them play.

Fetch the Bolt Thrower (PBKR), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 21:19 (six years ago)

this song is pretty good too, turns out.

edgard varese-type beat (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 21:24 (six years ago)

I forgot to vote in this poll, but I'm pretty happy with the results. My question is: does anyone else prefer the futuristic, multilayered studio version of the Star Spangled banner on Rainbow Bridge to the Woodstock version?

J. Sam, Tuesday, 28 April 2020 21:26 (six years ago)

Awesome, I was one of the #1s. VC (SR) has everything I want from a Hendrix song - riffage, cool images/phrases, face-melting guitar, pounding drums, killer solo

it's really the ideal jimi song, nay, rock song

sleight return (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 21:30 (six years ago)

My number one too. Where do you go from there?

Joey Corona (Euler), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 22:03 (six years ago)

into the center of the ring to call the macho man a 'basket case'
