should start using "let's ask the axis" to mean "let's look at the plot" during meeting presentations

now we're getting to the top tier shit, total classic, my #3, this is another one where it really DOES sound like he's standing on top of a mountain

I do actually like Crosstown Traffic. One where the verse is the best part.

Nudeln und Klopapier Gore (Sufjan Grafton), Monday, 27 April 2020 20:23 (six years ago)

probably my favorite use of piano in a jimi song

well the "do do doodleydo do dooooooo" vs "arit dit dit dit doo" battle is settled

Nudeln und Klopapier Gore (Sufjan Grafton), Monday, 27 April 2020 20:26 (six years ago)

Crosstown Traffic rules, I love it so much

it almost feels like it could be made into a Sesame Street parody about looking both ways when you cross the street

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 27 April 2020 20:40 (six years ago)

we need to get sund4r back here to talk about jimi's use of the 7b9 chord!!!

Spanish Castle Magic: TOO LOW! My #4. I argued with Sufjan about it on the voting thread, but just here to say once again that Jimi is the coolest and Spanish Castle Magic is one of his coolest moments.

The whole thing is an aside to someone, you know the girl in the yellow hat, one time, you dig, during an overheard digression, but, anyway, the best.

Fetch the Bolt Thrower (PBKR), Monday, 27 April 2020 21:25 (six years ago)

Hey Joe beating Spanish Castle Magic and Crosstown Traffic makes me wish I hadn't voted for it.

Fetch the Bolt Thrower (PBKR), Monday, 27 April 2020 21:26 (six years ago)

SCM was my #4 too. Love the stop-time arrangement (if that's the right term to describe it).

herds of unmasked cletuses (WmC), Monday, 27 April 2020 21:30 (six years ago)

Crosstown Traffic is the apotheosis of the entire British Invasion. The rushed, jagged vocal attack on the verses when the guitar pulls back for space, then during the chorus, the way the "It's just like", "CROSSTOWN TRAFFIC", and "to get through to you" combine gets me every time.

Fetch the Bolt Thrower (PBKR), Monday, 27 April 2020 21:32 (six years ago)

xp No that's right, Jimi stops time.

my #2, I love everything about it, so spacy and stoned, love the drum fills, I used to play it on 78 to hear the sped up conversation

the guys in Chrome probably listened to this about a million times, on acid

xpost the outtake version on the purple box set is sooo funny, they are trying to do the opening dialog & cracking up it’s v endearing

Nice.

My #6. "But I'm going to wave my freak flag high" is as good a summation/statement of purpose for Jimi as any.

Another "casual" Jimi song. Love all the space the riff allows in the verses.

I think it's fair to say my #3, " . . . And the Gods Made Love", isn't going to place at this point.

xp we can always discuss it now. First question: is jimi talking about gods creating love? like birthing it into existence? or is he talking about ripped animal gods fucking and sucking each other? if we don't know for sure, maybe just which version of that did you vote for?

Nudeln und Klopapier Gore (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 28 April 2020 16:56 (six years ago)

re: Gods, I'm voting for this version (repost from voting thread):

When I was 19 I dropped acid for the first time and while waiting for it to kick in drank Bacardi Golden Reserve and smoked pot. About 4 hours in as things were really humming along, I went for a quick ride with a friend, who popped a cassette in. The most incredibly weird music with spooky voices started to assault me from the speakers. I asked my fiend who this was and he told me it was "Whole Lotta Love", but it didn't sound like that to me. After listening further I started to become concerned and told myself, "concentrate, and when you listen again, it will be 'Whole Lotta Love'". Nope! By this point I thought I had done something very bad to my brain. I (desperately) asked my friend again who it was. Anyway, this is the story of why ". . . And the Gods Made Love" will be very high on my ballot.
