I voted for it. No one does laid back off-handedness like Jimi. One of my favorite Jimi modes.

I listened to Electric Ladyland again with fresh ears this morning. Also switched from headphones to very loud speakers, and I enjoyed it to an extent I haven't before. I don't have it on vinyl, and I can see how the experience benefits from division into 4 sides, so thanks for that lens. I've always loved voodo child (slight return) and Gypsy Eyes -- those tracks stand out on a compilation. But the rest of em, including Watchtower, gain something from the album context. anyway, I appreciate that I have another Jimi album to love. I was wrong about it before. Sometimes you need fresh excitement, especially when you weren't around for the original releases, to give you the juice to take on a whole album alone. I could see EL taking over Axis eventually because the overall vibe is cooler. Still don't expect I'll ever enjoy it more than AYE? or BoG, though.

EL is a great early-stereo headphones album, some really cool panning that makes it feel like the solos are bouncing around your brain.

EL was my second choice. I love it, but AYE? made a bigger impression on me when I heard it at home as a child, and it's the one I've returned to most often. On the surface AYE? is a typical 1967 pop album with 11 short songs (the longest is 3:55!), but every track is so freaky and wtf-sounding. I'm glad he stretched out later (my #1 track is a long one from EL) but I love the speed and power of the debut, and it's fun to think about how it must have blown people's minds. The Doors' debut, Surrealistic Pillow, and Electric Music for the Mind and Body came out a little earlier, but as psychedelia they all pale in comparison to AYE?.

got me floatin' is a song i like a lot but never considered voting for.

I voted for the PM Dawn version but not the original

a good many textures out of jimi's guitar in floatin. taking veg's note, i dig it.

villanova junction is a great jam, but i only wanted to vote for one 'jam' song, and another one got the vote.

I love You Got Me Floatin!! but it’s weird, PM Dawn definitely made their cover sound so rich & dreamy that it made the original pale a little bit somehow? (just in terms of audio i mean, song itself still rules)

Oh yeah, I like that one a lot but I voted for two other Cry of Love tracks iirc. I think "Rainy Day, Dream Away" did make my ballot. Love the bends on that. "You Got Me Floatin'" one of the Axis tracks that was making me reconsider my neglect of it.

A cool thing about "In From The Strom" is that it shows he was totally ready for lumbering '70s Rock ala Sabbath, Zep etc.

Was this on the UK version of the album? I thought it was a non-LP single.

It's on the consolidated CD version, which I'm using in those cases because otherwise my head hurts.

spotify has it on the expanded experienced, and i'm pretty sure my cd version has it too (plus songs like 51st anniversary, highway chile, and red house)

I left “Stone Free” off my ballot for reasons I can neither remember nor justify.

It's first LP appearance was on Smash Hits, according to wiki.

stone free live versions usually outstrip the studio version imo, but i still felt ok leaving it off.
