agreed w/ the others
― dyl, Saturday, 18 April 2020 02:51 (six years ago)
The instrumental track and the singing do not really connect, I find.
― Nabozo, Saturday, 18 April 2020 12:18 (six years ago)
it's perfectly pleasant but there's nothing to really elevate it to the level of his best work and a bit too understated even for him.
― ufo, Saturday, 18 April 2020 12:38 (six years ago)
omfg this is exactly what we need right the fuck now.
It's going to take a lot to best an album as incredible and emotionally uplifting as Africa to the World. This track is lovely, and if the rest of the album is as good as this but not better I'll still be happy. He has a specific vibe that is just romantic and beautiful and does such an amazing job of giving me an "escape" and Uhuru still has that in spades.
― octobeard, Monday, 20 April 2020 00:51 (six years ago)
i don't doubt the album will be really good even if this track is a little more understated than one might have expected from a 'first single' (not that 'understated' is necessarily a bad thing in sun-el's hands)
― dyl, Monday, 20 April 2020 16:46 (six years ago)
yeah same on all points
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 22 April 2020 02:37 (six years ago)
I agree that it’s not as good as a “Sonini” or “Ntaba ezikude” (leaving “Akanamali” out of this, because hors catégorie), but I still think it’s gorgeous. What puts this song over the top for me is Azana’s vocal - so earnest and affecting. She seems to be new, she has no footprint (voicetrail?) on Spotify at all, but her Twitter tells me she has an album out in May; the snippets suggest a slightly more jazzy vibe than for instance Simmy. But maybe y’all wanted Simmy on this?

Sweet. What I find funny with this video, is that where we hear house music (and look for certain qualities) South Africans are hearing "their" music under all the lush tapestry, chimes etc.
― Nabozo, Wednesday, 22 April 2020 13:08 (six years ago)
Btw breastcrawl if you're still learning Zulu, Simmy gives her own translation of Ngihamba Nawe (or I Choose You) in the YT comments.
― Nabozo, Wednesday, 22 April 2020 13:15 (six years ago)
oh nice, will have a look! (I’m not actively studying, but I’m much more alert to song titles and stuff, so I do google-translate a lot)
― No mean feat. DaBaby (breastcrawl), Wednesday, 22 April 2020 13:37 (six years ago)
i want simmy on basically everything.
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 22 April 2020 15:38 (six years ago)

cross-posting with the Moloko thread:“Sing It Back”, repurposed by Samthing Soweto as a gospel workout, lyrics slighly tweaked. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxuqpXRNuUMSoweto Central Chorus of the Salvation Army ft. Samthing Soweto • Bring It BackMuch better to watch the performance itself, starting from 55:12:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJxmbsgD-FcDon’t know if this version predates the much more faithful (!) Sha Sha cover or not (it looks like it was recorded last year as well) - Samthing and Sha Sha are only one step removed from each other obviously.(Samthing is on two more (consecutive) songs earlier in the concert, “Bawo” and “Mzalwane”, from 11:28 onwards)

I don't much care about Moloko, but that was extremely dope

More from Azana - Your Love which will serve as the first single of her INGOMA album. I think we had a snippet already.
― Nabozo, Friday, 22 May 2020 15:54 (six years ago)
that's just lovely! my first encounter with her, iirc, but stoked for the album now
― dip to dup (rob), Saturday, 23 May 2020 12:30 (six years ago)
ah I see she's the singer on that slightly controversial Sun El track

Belatedly, "Your Love" is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard.
― Tim F, Monday, 22 June 2020 02:11 (five years ago)
All three of these Azana singles are great.
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 22 June 2020 20:07 (five years ago)
dig the light touch of Jill Scott "He Loves Me" interpolation in Ngize Ngifike

god they sound great together, this album is promising to be stunning
― rob, Friday, 3 July 2020 18:48 (five years ago)
Now do yourselves a favour and listen to “Uhuru” again.
― No mean feat. DaBaby (breastcrawl), Friday, 3 July 2020 19:42 (five years ago)
I will def revisit that when the Sun-El album drops (iirc I wasn't as anti as others). Speaking of, are we looking at albums *this summer* from: Sun-El, Azana, Burna Boy, and WizKid?! Should Simmy be on that list too?
― rob, Friday, 3 July 2020 19:47 (five years ago)
oh man throw Tresor on that list too, wth
― rob, Friday, 3 July 2020 19:49 (five years ago)
Not sure about Simmy, but we’ve already had Kabza (I know). Davido also promised another album in July.
― No mean feat. DaBaby (breastcrawl), Friday, 3 July 2020 20:30 (five years ago)
...but yes, that new Azana track. “Umaqondana” might be my favourite so far.
― No mean feat. DaBaby (breastcrawl), Friday, 3 July 2020 23:37 (five years ago)
came across this playlist on Spotify, looks like a perfect match with the music on this thread: Sunday Kind of Love by Filtr South Africa.
― No mean feat. DaBaby (breastcrawl), Sunday, 5 July 2020 17:45 (five years ago)
New Heavy K, “second single”** from a new project that is promised for 31 July. It sounds great and I'm keeping my fingers crossed:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eG9aNx4y9zEHeavy-K ft. Natalia Mabaso • Uyeke
(**meanwhile previous single “Tsamaya” with Professor has disappeared from Spotify. Don’t know what’s going on between Heavy and Spotify: the tracks he dropped last year never reached it or have disappeared again, and his 2018 album and 2017 classic "Inde" are no longer there either)
― No mean feat. DaBaby (breastcrawl), Sunday, 5 July 2020 21:11 (five years ago)
that's really nice (not surprisingly for him). even the part that semi-reminded me of phil collins "another day in paradise", lol
