It is a lot better than RAM.

It's a good album but it's kind of funny to me that "Katy Perry using Selena Gomez's vocal technique" is apparently the ILX sweet spot.

Katy Perry and Dua Lipa don't sound remotely alike, not least because Dua Lipa doesn't do that big honking thing that sounds like she's constantly mugging to camera.

let me be the one to mention “Pretty Please”.

nothing’s blowing me away, but the album sounds pretty good on first listen, “Boys Will Be Boys” excepted.

I am totally hearing the Katy Perry thing now (unfortunately, thanks DJP!), and it was a qualified comparison to begin with.

I really want to connect with this album -- spiritually, it's absolutely up my alley -- but something's not sticking and idk what it is :(

Her singing is competent, but lacking in personality (she sounds bored). The music is mostly polite, generic dance-pop. The White Town sample is distracting, as samples of well-known songs can be. I like what “Break My Heart” does with the INXS melody.

Went for walk in the park the other night that turned into a disco stepping affair to the beat/tune of this album.

“Break My Heart” and “Pretty Please” are on a par with the two big singles for me, but “Levitating” and “Hallucinate”, enjoyable as they are, had me restless for some Fever-era Kylie. I settled on a loop of the full non-edited “Groovejet”.

iow, mixed results (but man did it feel good to be outside again - shame it’s so cold right now)

I have to admit I'm thoroughly enjoying both sample-heavy cuts. Imho "Love Again" tops "Break My Heart"; it's simply a better song. On the other hand, "Break My Heart", really does it for me with the... cleverness? i'm not sure that's the word but it's the best I can think about. Any way, it's clever in the way it integrates the INXS riff, and it's so sticky.

But the two songs that I keep hearing in my mind when I'm not actually listening to the album are "Hallucinate" and "Cool". I think those two will end up being my favorite cuts. "Hallucinate" in particular is totally relentless and reminded me of "Fever" too.

I'm also hearing "patchy" but not in a bad way. The payoffs are big.

the last song is bleh.

my choice cuts: levitating, love again, break my heart, don't start now. really, everything but the closer (billsteve otm), it's a super bubbly, crafty, and enjoyable record.

I think the debut was patchier than this, but higher in the peaks. I love her at her most relentless, "Begging" in the debut, "Hallucinate" here.

Physical > Levitating > Pretty Please (terrific bassline) is a sublime sequence. Prefer it by a wide margin to the debut. If she named it Bangerville it wouldn't have been arrogant.

"Levitating" has become my favorite. What a jam. I dance to it in my isiolation.

I know Dedicated was well-liked in these parts, but this album gives me the feeling I was hoping to get from that album. I caught the White Town sample but didn't notice the INXS interpolation. Guess I'll just listen to the whole album again
