So, this is pretty much the album of the year until the Jessie Ware one comes out right?

the "need you tonight" interpolation in "break my heart" is really bugging me, it doesn't quite work with the rest of the song
video rules though
― ufo, Friday, 27 March 2020 00:07 (six years ago)
Once first listen, loving « Break my Heart »(indeed it’s zeitgeisty !) and the fabulous-kinky-obvious summer hit « Good in Bed » !

― self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Friday, 27 March 2020 05:38 (six years ago)
Oh it’s actually “need you tonight” not “shakedown street”!
“Good in Bed” sounds like Lilly Allen to me, not sure I care about it.
Non-single tracks that I like on first listen: “cool”, “love again”
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 27 March 2020 06:40 (six years ago)
This album is *Cars voice* just what I needed.
I dig Good in Bed. Fun bop.

very early 00s uk pop throughout.
This ain't the early 00s. But why does it feel so good?
― Matt DC, Friday, 27 March 2020 12:59 (six years ago)
Damn, I haven’t seen the ILX hivemind so stoked for an album since Random Access Memories.
― Mr. Snrub, Friday, 27 March 2020 20:29 (six years ago)
We've come too far.
― TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 27 March 2020 20:41 (six years ago)
It's good; it reminds me of Selena Gomez's January album. I like pop stars releasing these tight albums.

haven't heard a note of this but I'm sure it's better than that turd
― COVID and the Gang (jim in vancouver), Friday, 27 March 2020 20:43 (six years ago)
It is a lot better than RAM.
It's a good album but it's kind of funny to me that "Katy Perry using Selena Gomez's vocal technique" is apparently the ILX sweet spot.
― DJP, Friday, 27 March 2020 20:48 (six years ago)
I’m holding my hype for the Jessie Ware album.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 27 March 2020 23:06 (six years ago)
fwiw I don’t hear selena gomez in this at all
― monotony, Saturday, 28 March 2020 01:32 (six years ago)
This is good but patchier than I'd expect given how concise it is tbh
― brechtian social distancing (Simon H.), Saturday, 28 March 2020 01:46 (six years ago)
I don't get patchy at all. It's pretty much wall to wall bangers
― groovypanda, Saturday, 28 March 2020 13:04 (six years ago)
Katy Perry and Dua Lipa don't sound remotely alike, not least because Dua Lipa doesn't do that big honking thing that sounds like she's constantly mugging to camera.
― Matt DC, Saturday, 28 March 2020 13:07 (six years ago)
let me be the one to mention “Pretty Please”. nothing’s blowing me away, but the album sounds pretty good on first listen, “Boys Will Be Boys” excepted.
― No mean feat. DaBaby (breastcrawl), Saturday, 28 March 2020 14:17 (six years ago)
I am totally hearing the Katy Perry thing now (unfortunately, thanks DJP!), and it was a qualified comparison to begin with.
― No mean feat. DaBaby (breastcrawl), Saturday, 28 March 2020 14:18 (six years ago)
I really want to connect with this album -- spiritually, it's absolutely up my alley -- but something's not sticking and idk what it is :(
― winters (josh), Sunday, 29 March 2020 00:08 (six years ago)
and that's okay!
― winters (josh), Sunday, 29 March 2020 00:09 (six years ago)
hi, josh!
― TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 29 March 2020 00:18 (six years ago)
Her singing is competent, but lacking in personality (she sounds bored). The music is mostly polite, generic dance-pop. The White Town sample is distracting, as samples of well-known songs can be. I like what “Break My Heart” does with the INXS melody.
― morrisp, Sunday, 29 March 2020 00:46 (six years ago)
well, the White Town sucked too
― TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 29 March 2020 00:48 (six years ago)
the white town sample is way less distracting than the inxs one
― ufo, Sunday, 29 March 2020 00:56 (six years ago)
"Boys Will Be Boys" reminds me of this recent song (but I like this one better):

Went for walk in the park the other night that turned into a disco stepping affair to the beat/tune of this album. “Break My Heart” and “Pretty Please” are on a par with the two big singles for me, but “Levitating” and “Hallucinate”, enjoyable as they are, had me restless for some Fever-era Kylie. I settled on a loop of the full non-edited “Groovejet”. iow, mixed results (but man did it feel good to be outside again - shame it’s so cold right now)
― No mean feat. DaBaby (breastcrawl), Wednesday, 1 April 2020 20:38 (six years ago)
I have to admit I'm thoroughly enjoying both sample-heavy cuts. Imho "Love Again" tops "Break My Heart"; it's simply a better song. On the other hand, "Break My Heart", really does it for me with the... cleverness? i'm not sure that's the word but it's the best I can think about. Any way, it's clever in the way it integrates the INXS riff, and it's so sticky.
But the two songs that I keep hearing in my mind when I'm not actually listening to the album are "Hallucinate" and "Cool". I think those two will end up being my favorite cuts. "Hallucinate" in particular is totally relentless and reminded me of "Fever" too.
― cpl593H, Friday, 3 April 2020 15:18 (six years ago)
I'm also hearing "patchy" but not in a bad way. The payoffs are big.
― billstevejim, Friday, 3 April 2020 17:15 (six years ago)
the last song is bleh.
― billstevejim, Friday, 3 April 2020 17:16 (six years ago)
my choice cuts: levitating, love again, break my heart, don't start now. really, everything but the closer (billsteve otm), it's a super bubbly, crafty, and enjoyable record.
― ooga booga-ing for the bourgeoisie (voodoo chili), Friday, 3 April 2020 17:43 (six years ago)
I think the debut was patchier than this, but higher in the peaks. I love her at her most relentless, "Begging" in the debut, "Hallucinate" here.

Physical > Levitating > Pretty Please (terrific bassline) is a sublime sequence. Prefer it by a wide margin to the debut. If she named it Bangerville it wouldn't have been arrogant.
― Wally P. Doyle, Monday, 20 April 2020 07:30 (six years ago)
"Levitating" has become my favorite. What a jam. I dance to it in my isiolation.

gave this album a listen, it's quite good but i kind of expected it to be... better based on all the effusive praise?
― dyl, Monday, 20 April 2020 16:44 (six years ago)
Moka upthread OTM, "Good in Bed' sounds like a rejected Lily Allen song from 2006. The rest of the album is great.
― braised cod, Saturday, 25 April 2020 07:29 (six years ago)
I know Dedicated was well-liked in these parts, but this album gives me the feeling I was hoping to get from that album. I caught the White Town sample but didn't notice the INXS interpolation. Guess I'll just listen to the whole album again

At long last, a bunch of remixes for “Physical”. josh is hyping the dreamy Erika de Casier Remix on the EdC thread, but I’m here for the hi-energy Leo Zero Disco Remix:http://www.youtube.com/watch?=fC_wSCls3h0

a lot of Serbian nationalist propaganda nowadays paints the Albanians as interlopers in the region whereas actually Albanians have inhabited the balkans since before the slavs arrived
