Okay, well, good enough I guess.
So, I was wondering about the black and white album rear cover that is propped up behind the DJ (it's a still from 'That Thing You Do' btw) it doesn't look like a 60s record, kinda looks like the back of a John Hiatt record from 1985 or something, any clues?
― Maresn3st, Friday, 13 March 2020 20:32 (four years ago) link
haha yeah that definitely does not look like an early 60s record!
― Οὖτις, Friday, 13 March 2020 20:33 (four years ago) link
Yeah, which is maybe why they turned it around, but considering the insane amount of period detail in the movie it's funny.

reminded me of Sting's Dream of the Blue Turtles but it isn't that

Merryweather - Word of Mouth, between Mother Earth and Steve Miller
I cheated and managed to google it based on a description, being sure I knew it but just couldn't think of the name. Turns out there was no "Oh Yeah" moment.

I thought that might be Beck's Mellow Gold under Ozomatli, but I don't think it is ... but I'm saying it in case someone else can look closely and confirm that it, in fact, is.

The one on the bottom of the Monk pile would probably be a good candidate for The Great Millennial Colour Drought but it is not included in that thread (unless as a broken link)

The photo is from the ‘My record collection’ feature in Q from 1990. Quote below may help identify some of them.
He sure ain't kidding, as lapping his ankles are treasures ranging from Otis Rush, Snooks Eaglin and Aaron Neville to Big Black, Robyn Hitchcock, Glen Branca ("I like discordancy"). The Band Of Holy Joy ("Ha!")m and Sinead O'Connor.

Many adorable things about that photo, but I especially love the janky-ass Ikea unit with the components on a shelf befitting sitting on the floor to listen to records. Like he got the lease suddenly, and bought the shelves from the previous occupant so as to start spinning records ASAP, and still hasn't gotten around to buying a chair. Landlord window treatments. I like to think of Plant having a little barebones pied-a-terre with nothing but stacks of records and an electric kettle.
