Hey...new to this place but I'm sure I've conversed with some of you elsewhere. Anyway let me get things rolling by giving this new Keke Palmer cut a big things up. Her first album actually had some decent moments and wasn't as bubblegum as some might have expected. The last thing I expected of a Disney poppet though was a song inspired by the LA jerk craze. It works amazingly well too.

This Milian track is so...odd for this moment in time. It seems oddly removed from all the pop and r&b of 2009. We've been trending WAY maximalist in terms of production compared to the spareness of earlier in the decade, and this...isn't a throwback, but it's certainly not zeitgeisty either. The tabla beat is totally entrancing, though, and I can see it growing on me a great deal.
But honestly, I just want her to make an album of songs as scorching and sinuous as 'Dip It Low'.

The Milian track strikes me as part of the Youtube zeitgeist that The Dream rides so squarely: songs so stripped down that people think they could have thought them up themselves but astonishingly cleanly constructed. Sorta zen snap.
