Dorian Electra enlists Rebecca Black for new song and video | new project My Agenda out 10/16
Today, Pop-music-agitator Dorian Electra (pronouns:they/them/theirs) releases "Edgelord" featuring Rebecca Black. The track is from Dorian Electra’s forthcoming project My Agenda out October 16th.
Written by Dorian Electra, Rebecca Black, umru, Weston Allen and Full Tac, the track explores internet trolls in full force and the cloak of anonymity they hide behind. In Dorian fashion the visuals show them take on multiple characters including a furry and The Joker, highlighting the different masks trolls hide behind for safety. Whilst Rebecca Black references her debut single "Friday" as she sits in the back seat on her way to wreak havoc.

"Friday" was terrible and yet still better than this.

I'm so disappointed that no one (afaict) has ever done a mashup of Rebecca Black and Murray Saul.

kinda sounds like buffy saint marie if she sat down in an office chair and spun around like 50+ times really fast and then had to sing this song

I cry hoax, she can actually sing but chooses to hit the wrong notes. Genuinely shit singers are more droningly flat.

― pomenitul, Friday, 23 July 2021 09:33 (four years ago)
She directed this too. That could be her main thing. But then again she took the trouble to put the song on Spotify. Her campus tour video is a liiittle bit goofy. But I can't really see anything that suggests she's joking with the singing. She's surely seen many comments that she's not good at it. I wonder if she'd want to hang out.
― maf you one two (maffew12), Friday, 23 July 2021 10:59 (four years ago)
I get the same vibe from those melodyne derived Youtube videos where they knock the vocal melody of 'Africa' out by one semitone.
― Maresn3st, Friday, 23 July 2021 11:24 (four years ago)
a little Spotify sleuthing turns up what appears to be her personal playlists, featuring, among many others.....that's right, gaz coombes. the mystery deepens

She's an MA student at Oxford who "conduct[ s ] quantitative research on the intersection of religion and politics": https://www.linkedin.com/in/sarah-brand-501595188/
The recording and engineering quality definitely suggests that digital pitch correction could have been applied if it was desired. My speculative hypothesis is she's not trolling but not lacking in self-awareness. She doesn't have singing chops but feels that shouldn't stop someone, out of a version of indie/punk-like aesthetic principles; all the online haters make her more resolved to do her thing and actually prove her message. She wants to make an anti-Christianity/pro-sex/anti-conformity statement and this kind of out-of-tune indie-country is what she sees as her innovation.
― Sequel to Sadness (Sund4r), Friday, 23 July 2021 14:33 (four years ago)
I feel like if you asked her then she would say this is part of her singing style, like Kate Bush or sth
― A viking of frowns, (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 23 July 2021 14:36 (four years ago)
That's my theory too, with the caveat that I don't believe she would be able to sing conventionally if she had to.
― Sequel to Sadness (Sund4r), Friday, 23 July 2021 14:37 (four years ago)
Did IceJJFish turn out to be real or a joke in the end?
― A viking of frowns, (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 23 July 2021 14:41 (four years ago)
Why not put the instruments out-of-tune too, if she's trying to make that statement? Why not go fully atonal?
