sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Sunday, 16 February 2020 15:59 (four years ago) link

Wait, this Lingua Ignota album is awesome.

With considerable charm, you still have made a choice (Sund4r), Sunday, 16 February 2020 18:23 (four years ago) link

Yes it is.

Loud guitars shit all over "Bette Davis Eyes" (NYCNative), Sunday, 16 February 2020 19:48 (four years ago) link

Caligula snuck up on me too. At first I thought it was too slow and boring, then I found myself craving to hear it in the middle of the workday, after a fever dream at 3:00am, etc

Schammasch Cannonball (Tom Violence), Sunday, 16 February 2020 21:17 (four years ago) link

isn't that always the way. tbf you do that with Mahler too

Oor Neechy, Sunday, 16 February 2020 22:32 (four years ago) link

Have compiled a (quite short) ballot (god I really hate metal lol) but might try to add to it if I find anything deserving

Nero Di Marte album is 2020 you cheeky so and so :P it can wait

imago, Monday, 17 February 2020 10:42 (four years ago) link

Ha! Good catch.

I've deleted it. It can and must indeed wait.

Anyone else here fucking with Jorge Elbrecht's Coral Cross project? I know tangenttangent at least (& LJ too?)(happy birthday btw) got some mileage from the also-great Gloss Coma album he released this year, but Coral Cross is special: another strand of that experimental BM syncretism I was talking about a while ago, but Elbrecht pairs his black metal with spectral keyboards, chanting vox, eerie sound efx, & even some influence from John Carpenter's soundtracks. The resultant hybrid sounds goth af:

Yeah HB LJ! (couldn't find one thread among the dozens of ban lj threads, sheesh)

I'm def down for some BM w/ keys and chanting vox, will get on it!

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 17 February 2020 12:07 (four years ago) link

Ohh LBI I have a feeling you'll dig this a lot!

Happy birthday LJ indeed! Also, that record sounds interesting.

With considerable charm, you still have made a choice (Sund4r), Monday, 17 February 2020 12:26 (four years ago) link

Man, this Jorge Elbrecht rules. Had to check if it was the same guy who did some stuff with Ariel Pink (stuff I didn't care for), and it is. He's going all out here isn't he? Sounds... proggy as hell too?! This is my shit though, thanks for that DAM!

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 17 February 2020 12:33 (four years ago) link

Roll-call

Who has all voted so far apart from Pom & I?

Oor Neechy, Monday, 17 February 2020 23:51 (four years ago) link

I have SOO much sorting and ranking and eliminating to do. But I WILL vote, of course.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Monday, 17 February 2020 23:58 (four years ago) link

Anyone else plan to vote?

Oor Neechy, Tuesday, 18 February 2020 02:00 (four years ago) link

I'll send a short unweighted ballot before the deadline.

With considerable charm, you still have made a choice (Sund4r), Tuesday, 18 February 2020 02:03 (four years ago) link

I voted so long ago that I wondered for a second if this was a new one.

glenn mcdonald, Tuesday, 18 February 2020 02:53 (four years ago) link

maybe you voted in the lifetime tracks poll and havent voted in this?

Oor Neechy, Tuesday, 18 February 2020 03:14 (four years ago) link

My ballot will be small but I will be voting

Dinsdale, Tuesday, 18 February 2020 06:45 (four years ago) link

I'll vote. Still need to relisten and rank five-six albums.

Frederik B, Tuesday, 18 February 2020 07:33 (four years ago) link

Absolutely will submit a ballot, vote for cherubs

Voted!

Siegbran, Tuesday, 18 February 2020 11:24 (four years ago) link

I have a ballot with about 15 albums on it, and a ballot with about 5 albums on it, and I'm deciding between them. Obviously tt's ballot will be like 50 or whatever, she is much more metal than me

imago, Tuesday, 18 February 2020 12:10 (four years ago) link

vote for multishiva

Thanks to all those who have voted and to those who plan to vote.

Oor Neechy, Tuesday, 18 February 2020 16:47 (four years ago) link

Can anyone recommend any 2019 metal that's good to accompany an insane board game about birds? (imago says: 'not hatebeak')

tangenttangent, Tuesday, 18 February 2020 17:02 (four years ago) link

Not 2019 maybe but Satyricon “Black Crow On A Tombstone” is an anthem.

Siegbran, Tuesday, 18 February 2020 17:42 (four years ago) link

of course 'bird-grind' is a thing

We only have 16 ballots.

Oor Neechy, Tuesday, 18 February 2020 23:48 (four years ago) link

we need lots of 50 album ballots please!

Oor Neechy, Tuesday, 18 February 2020 23:54 (four years ago) link

I'm still listening until tomorrow afternoon then I start placements. I'm at 31 albums now, I imagine I can manage to get a 35 album ballot.

Frobisher, Wednesday, 19 February 2020 06:01 (four years ago) link

I have my ballot together. Hope to submit it today.

Loud guitars shit all over "Bette Davis Eyes" (NYCNative), Wednesday, 19 February 2020 14:30 (four years ago) link

Nice. We need as many people as we can get. KEEP THE METAL POLL ALIVE YOU POXY FULES.

Music to my ears!

romanesque architect (pomenitul), Wednesday, 19 February 2020 15:20 (four years ago) link

Damn, Organectomy didn't get nommed?

Judi Dench's Human Hand (methanietanner), Wednesday, 19 February 2020 15:50 (four years ago) link

It's alright, I just added it.

romanesque architect (pomenitul), Wednesday, 19 February 2020 15:52 (four years ago) link

I wish the old regulars who drifted away from metal would not only come back and vote but post on the threads too.
The early days of the poll were really lively.

Oor Neechy, Wednesday, 19 February 2020 17:50 (four years ago) link

I'm here to watch. My metal listening has slowed to a total, er, dribble and I have nothing to contribute.

Haha, that's awesome. Thanks!

romanesque architect (pomenitul), Wednesday, 19 February 2020 18:50 (four years ago) link

A late recommendation but I just discovered it in bouncing around listening to things, Chevelier - Destiny Calls is really good, or at least really interesting. It's I guess ostensibly some kind of nwobhm-revival sort of stuff, but it's very sparse and weird, and has female-fronted vocals that really do sound like some high priestess shouting incantations. I'm having trouble pinning it down, but it's not run of the mill its very strange and wonderful to me. Worth checking out!
