put me down as poll runner for super furry animals, i'm not sure what interest there is (probably only around 5 current posters on the main thread), but they can't be pollrunnerless

staggerlee hasn't posted since 2014. If no one objects (or if they just changed usernames), I'd like to step up for the Newpies poll.

Also: I was thinking about doing the Hendrix poll this September, in recognition of the 50th (not 51st) anniversary of his passing.

I was kind of musing about a PSYCHEDELIC ROCK poll but have the feeling that's too hairy a beast to properly corral.

Also, post-rock can/should be its own poll distinct from dream pop/shoegaze.

As far as timing is concerned, keep in mind that the 2019 metal poll is still underway, so maybe wait until it's over? Otherwise these all sound like great ideas.

thanks for taking over SFA for me wtev. i got mad that there weren't on Spotify and was not going to run it until that got corrected. i see now that everything is on there but RATW and PP. those other reissues have all their earlier B-sides on-line so that is a huge plus. can't wait for the Super Furry Animals poll!

Most excited about "New Wave (just can’t get enough) Albums and Singles" and SFA will be such a fun poll.

Is anyone in a position to start something soon? Cat Power was almost 6 months ago now.

I'm thinking of offering my services to do the graphics for the eventual R.E.M. poll (it's 14th on the upcoming poll list)--that is, if rogermexico doesn't want to do them himself.

But here's the gimmick. I would ask all ILM'ers to send me random pictures in an R.E.M. aesthetic (whatever that is). Inscrutable objects, blurry photos you haven't deleted yet, chalk marks on a truck tire, a link to a drawing of some adzes, an old shopping list with a penguin scrawled on it. Or take a picture to illustrate a specific song--but don't tell me the song. I'll slap these bits together haphazardly, paste a wonky font on top and reap the acclaim.

If I do it, I'll probably have to start working on it now to get it done for the reveal sometime next year.

one thing with the underworld poll though would be figuring out where to draw the line with remixes etc., like "dark train" should probably be counted as a separate track to "dark & long" but does that work for all of them, and how do you handle something like "rez/cowgirl"?

hmmm not sure why it just made a new post but here's my thought - all those 'remixes' should be treated as a distinct track, since they're basically distinct tracks with almost nothing to do with the originals. if you combine votes then you wouldn't be able to put, say, "Dark Train" along with "Thing in a Book", nor "Tin There" with "Pearl's Girl", even though these tracks are very different from each other. as for "Rez/Cowgirl", idk how you'd want to handle it but I'd lean towards just not allowing it

Here's a bold, bold suggestion while we're seemingly experiencing a lack of "I'm ready to go" bids...

I'd be happy to run a Prefab Sprout poll ASAP seeing there's some interest! (Assuming triggercut wasn't actually offering to run it, of course. I couldn't tell for sure.) I've favoured a quick turnaround on polls in the past and could again get it all done within a few weeks. I could even start immediately, but am mindful of the EOY metal poll still needing some space.

I'd definitely be interested in a Prefab Sprout poll.

anyways, i think it's time for a new poll as the Metal poll is almost over and we can open a new poll as those results finish.

Ten years. Oh my god. I think I suggested back then that we should do another poll, but for albums/EPs instead of tracks - I can't remember if that's what this poll is supposed to be.

Yes, you can see on the above list that it will be for Albums/EPs this summer hopefully. i will do some sort of side poll with the tracks results that we got from Moka's part.

I'm a massive Underworld fan and still extremely daunted at having to try and whittle down some favourites from their extensive library xp

Let's nudge the thread for a couple of days in case anyone who's been on deck for a while gets prompted: I'm ready to roll on Underworld, but have the 2019 film poll going on ILE right now, so want to stagger them a bit anyway. (Being locked inside for months is probably the best time for folks to try and figure out which of five nine-minute versions of different songs are their favourites, to be sure.)

Heh I think the shoegaze poll was one of my first polls so there’s no images, some of the winners don’t really qualify as shoegaze (not my fault! That’s on voters) and I broke the usual tie system into a weird one, I’m sure there’s plenty of mistakes too.

I thought about that too, as I’ve been going through a giant Move/Wood/ELO phase right now – but kind of concluded that the Move are really too much their own thing to just kind of be added on to ELO.

ELO, meanwhile, have so many hits and deep cuts that I think there would be more than enough to flesh out the poll and its various sub-polls (Lynne productions, etc.). It’s hard to imagine adding another band and career into the mix.

I hope this happens, I was going to start The ____ next month but work is just too intense for me to meet that deadline.

But polling 38 songs total seems awfully limiting.

I feel like the excuse to listen to and think/talk about a given artist too much is secretly the important aspect of these polls. As such, I don't think a compact discography has necessarily been a huge impediment for some of those where I did the number-crunching.

I for one would probably vote in a Talk Talk poll. I know the records, but not inside-out, and an incentive to focus anew is kinda appealing.

I’ve been loading up on materials over the holiday season and finally feel like I have the time and minimal viable knowledge to pull something like that off.
