Tailwhip by Men I Trust is one of the best songs of the decade imho.

Love the sound of that - palm muted? - bass in their sound.

Never really warmed to Russell's non-disco material, gimme Patrick Cowley over him any day.

I have never heard of this Arthur Russell album but I’ve liked almost everything I’ve heard from him.

It’s incredible how consistent and vast the quality of his posthumous work is.

Good album, no more, no less.

All four of them are vv different which was a concern that it might not work but all are so phenomenally good at their best and they brought it all together on this.

Awesome! My #10. Brilliant, harrowing and varied record, and it absolutely flies by too. Simz is quite the forceful presence

Listened to The Highwomen album a lot when it came out. Talented artists making good music, and I'm very glad they exist and are getting some well deserved attention, but as I've said elsewhere, it all feels so calculated and serious. The few places where they sneak in some levity ("My Name Can't Be Mama", "Don't Call Me") are among my favorites.

I discovered the Simz in early Jan. and it *just* missed my ballot. Reminded me a lot of Whack World.

listening to Danny Brown in the hope this is the album that clicks and... Nope I still don't get it. Always found his stuff quite flat and uninteresting. Is this really considered 'weird' for hip hop? IDGI

I'll concede that the opening track is a little "calculated and serious," in that it's a rewrite of a classic song. maybe also the closing number, wheels of laredo... which also appeared on the Tanya Tucker album, no?

I would have liked to have included Little Simz.

Highwomen feels like a compilation, and is a little calculated in places (Redesigning Women), but songs like 'Cocktail and a Song' and 'My Only Child' connected emotionally for me.

Men I Trust reminding me of nothing so much as latter-day Connan Mockasin. This is not necessarily a good thing, but it does mean it's at least a little bit odd
