totally unnecessary bewbz of exploitation (DJP), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:01 (six years ago)

I also voted for 'Love And Affection For Stupid Little Bitches' but yeah I guess it would have probably shown up by now

silverfish, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:02 (six years ago)

I didn't think anyone cared about Tinashe any more.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:07 (six years ago)

CFCF is a lock, don’t sweat it.

Pressed for time but: I get Pom about feeling KM being a scam, but boy did I fall for that record.

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:07 (six years ago)

last years tinashe album was sooooo good
probs prefer it to aquarius

nxd, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:07 (six years ago)

"this experimental music is a scam" = "my kid could paint that" = dumb

na (NA), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:10 (six years ago)

I didn't think anyone cared about Tinashe any more.

I reconsidered on listening to this album. It did take a while tho.

breastcrawl, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:10 (six years ago)

yeah tinashe burned through quite a lot of goodwill with the releases following aquarius but last year's effort was surprisingly decent.

||||||||, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:11 (six years ago)

lol brad I would be surprised if anyone other than you and I had even listened to the khidja & balabas album

Tim F, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:11 (six years ago)

I mean obv in a just world it would be top five or something

Tim F, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:11 (six years ago)

I didn’t vote for Black Dresses this year because I was still processing and enjoying WASTEISOLATION and then they released a million other things and it was too much. I love an album every 2-3 years.

tangenttangent, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:11 (six years ago)

Turns out... I did, Tim. But didn’t it come out in 2018?

ikr it’s so embarrassing when people do this (nb I have done this)

brimstead, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:14 (six years ago)

It’s ok when it’s me doing it though. Also lol @ calling it ‘experimental’.

toilet-cleaning brain surgeon (pomenitul), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:15 (six years ago)

all art is a scam ultimately. none of it is real.

silverfish, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:15 (six years ago)

lol brad I would be surprised if anyone other than you and I had even listened to the khidja & balabas album

― Tim F, Tuesday, February 4, 2020 2:11 PM (four minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

my assumption as well! everyone itt listen to the khidja & balabas record

american bradass (BradNelson), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:16 (six years ago)

i guess it came out in november 2018 but imo whatever

american bradass (BradNelson), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:17 (six years ago)

It is awesome and everyone should hear it, yes.

toilet-cleaning brain surgeon (pomenitul), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:18 (six years ago)

listed as 2019 on spotify. listening now

I get that, yeah. I mostly can't deal with over-prolific artists myself, and didn't spend much time with Thank You partly for this reason, but I thought LAAFSLB was really really good. Think I was so confident it would at least sneak in is because I figured it would have the imago-tt tag team behind it, but now you've revealed your lack of vote I'm much more convinced it's not made it.

emil.y, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:20 (six years ago)

Yeah I think k&b only got a wide release last year.

Tim F, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:20 (six years ago)

Xp Aaah it is really good, I kind of regret not voting for it. I still think it has a chance.

Hooray for Liturgy and glass beach placing today!

tangenttangent, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:27 (six years ago)

Glad I placed the Andy Stott high, probably got it in. Now listening to the Holly Herndon for the first time and thinking damn I should have placed that higher

kraudive, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:28 (six years ago)

Yes excellent to see the glass beach album place

Tim F, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:29 (six years ago)

some good stuff, enjoying this k&b record - what's their story?

'love and affection...' just missed my final 25 iirc

nxd, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:32 (six years ago)

too long but it had so many bangers. It's great for road trips!

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:37 (six years ago)

i voted for theon cross btw. And Tinashe i think! She just announced her new tour.

This Chemical Brothers is good; thanks for getting me to listen!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 21:57 (six years ago)

Another vote for Tinashe here. Going into the the year I didn't really have that much interest in new music from her, but I checked the album out after the positive reaction on her thread. I think it's better than Aquarius.

kitchen person, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 22:05 (six years ago)

i too voted for the theon cross as well as the nerija (as well as a few other unmentioned jazz albums)

Mordy, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 22:06 (six years ago)

lol brad I would be surprised if anyone other than you and I had even listened to the khidja & balabas album

i heard it and liked it, prefer khidja on their own though. also prefered tapan's atlas ep for ethno-electro-acoustic aural journeys

Chemical Brothers! My first pick to place

Ainsley James Gryffyd Lowbeer Holdsworth (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 22:20 (six years ago)

I'm prepping for tomorrow and, now that we're in 10 vote territory but not in the last stretch, the diversity is super striking. I kinda guarantee there will be at least one album you like and one you've never heard of to place tomorrow and a cursory listen suggests there's a lot of great stuff to discover and champion.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 22:21 (six years ago)

(Actually *second*, I also voted for Purple Mountains)

Ainsley James Gryffyd Lowbeer Holdsworth (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 22:21 (six years ago)

Did anyone not vote for Purple Mountains?

Indexed, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 22:25 (six years ago)

Someone upthread said they wanted to like the Rapsody album more than they did, I'm in that boat too. The rapping was great, the production was a bit too all over the place.

Ainsley James Gryffyd Lowbeer Holdsworth (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 22:26 (six years ago)

a very nice discovery, that glass beach album. it's a little all over the map, i like that open aproach full of surprises. the kind of prog i can appreciate. it's also full of melodies. the concept of writing songs which in themselves change about every 30 seconds or so makes me think of a roxy music on speed. the wee bit of autotunes used is absolutely ok even for me. and i have only listened to 5/15 tracks. looking forward to the rest. there is also a grain of the light-heartedness of early weezer in this. a real pleasure. so fun.

walking towards the sun since 2007 (alex in mainhattan), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 22:32 (six years ago)

I just can't get into the emo vocal style though

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 22:33 (six years ago)

yeah that's the only thing that blocks me a bit

doorstep jetski (dog latin), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 22:34 (six years ago)

so cringey

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 22:39 (six years ago)

Did anyone not vote for Purple Mountains?
I don't listen to nor vote for any rock music, it doesn't interest me.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 22:52 (six years ago)

there aren't many distorted guitars on that one

ooga booga-ing for the bourgeoisie (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 22:55 (six years ago)

I don't understand English that well, so it's not my thing

Frederik B, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 22:58 (six years ago)

Catching up: I picked Rapsody from yesterday and glasshousebeachcandy from today to listen to. Liked them both (and ‘Eve’ a lot) on first play but man they need to pass a law limiting album lengths to 50 minutes max. glass beach might also benefit from being remade with gazillion dollar production values.

Jeff W, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 23:06 (six years ago)

Looking forward to the objections to listening to Purple Mountains expanding to "I don't like any music whatsoever, so I passed on it."

Tim F, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 23:12 (six years ago)

I don't care if the mountains are black, white, purple

nashwan, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 23:26 (six years ago)

notes? don't care for 'em

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 23:30 (six years ago)

notes? more like nopes

Mordy, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 23:33 (six years ago)

Seems I voted for just Andy Stott and Sault from last batch. (My favourite of the two Sault options. Looks like the other did just fine without 26 points from me.)

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 23:36 (six years ago)

i do have some actual criticisms of PM that you may be uninterested to hear when it wins the poll on thursday. suffice it to say for now that it's impressive ilx has found a more maudlin and doomish album than that low one last year to latch onto. not that either album is bad, obv!
